This song as any of RUSH songs, says so much. It goes down to the issue emphatically in the wonderful voice of Geddy Lee. It is a good example of what fine arts should be in an ideal world of course. The record for me was a transition as a teenager when I was changing from analog to digital. I hope in the future my sons could not only enjoy music but learn from it, reason from it, grow up from it. I have too much to thank to these musicians, that without knowing has shape an essential part of me.
@TheMoonchild1969 I appreciated your comments about rush in general and the influence this album had on you growing up, I was born in 66' and discovered rush in 77' I was completely mesmerized by the band since then. @Evilmike42 hey little boy that thinks your evil,I will not bring myself down to your level you need to rise to mine, your probably a gov't plant i'm not a truther IAM MAN
Peart has a very anti-religion vibe in a lot of his lyrics, and sadly as a Christian I have to say understandably so. This is also one of my favorite Rush songs, gives me chills every time I hear it and takes me back to a fonder time. But I sort of pity his understanding of God, and of Jesus Christ because it is so completely skewed by the bad experiences he's had. He's correct that the Weapon is knowledge, or the suppression of it, he's just wrong about the content.
@esgsu13 I disagree with you're view most of rush's song all three produce the song and most of their songs are inline with Biblical matters of the heart and a real Christ like view of the world not a polluted so called christian stance!
@lowpull700 - Sorry you are just plain wrong. I didn't say most of Rush's songs, I said "a lot of his lyrics". I'll start Chronologically and go backward:
BU2B
Faithless
Weapon
Witch Hunt
There are more that are more subtle and indicative of his world view.
@helvet666 If you really knew God's Love you could never say such a thing... and neither could Peart, that the only point. The actions and Fears of men don't make God one iota more or less than He is. I felt sad for him, and now for you too.
@esgsu13 Its Witch Hunt, Weapon, The Enemy Within, and Freeze chronologically speaking you got the first two right but the others are from grace under pressure and vapor trails not snakes and arrows and clockwork angels
@esgsu13 rofl he got it exactly right about god. The christian church is th ebest modern example of using fear as a weapon. the only reason people beleive in 'god' and 'heaven' is from fear of the unknown. So Neil Peart knows exactly what hes talking about
@helvet666 In light of recent events, regarding the massacre in Norway, most are reluctant to call this guy a terrorist. Is he not a "Christian" terrorist?
@esgsu13 "the weapon" is fear. this is the second part of a 4-part series called "fear" in which peart explores the idea that our actions are governed by fear alone and no other emotion.
The lyrics to this song repeat in my head during the times I feel most stressed. I instantly find my inner strength, and remember who I am. Thank you for creating this musical affirmation. All Hail Rush!!!
Oh come on people...don't try to compare this trash to gems like " gotta go downstairs, gotta have cereal, it's friday friday! " or " where da hoes at? " Get with the program sheeple and get your grill on. DeVinci is dead and Justin Beiber is alive wearing a thing made out of fishing line.
In case you don't know, this is called sarcasm, and the noise you're hearing is what people used to call music. Before the dark times. Before the empire!
@Kkrouton Usher should be slapped with bacon thinking Bieber has talent WTF was he thinking. RUSH is so advanced, the RNRHOF doesn't get them. But as RUSH fans we do.
Why does Jenny From the Block and California Girl crap get 10 million views and this genius stuff only gets 11 thousand? There is too much injustice n life.
This is my favorite song of all time. I have 2nd row tickets to see Rush in Toledo. Its going to be incredible. Our arena only has a capacity about 8k.
thats inquipment list is soo old. neil peart only uses sabian pargons now, the cymbal line that he himself designed. i even have a poster of it in one of my videos. they sell them at retail but there like 3 grand for a super set!!
At the risk of sounding pretentious, I often play this loud whilst driving at night; it puts me on another level. My favorite song from an underrated Rush album.
@xxxScrotalRecall Yeah I feel that way about the entire Signals album. There's definitely an ethereal quality to it. Countdown is a big night song for me.
We've got nothing to fear...but fear itself? Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy? Not the faulty units in this mad machinery? Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?
Throughout the time when I was younger (80s) and listened to Rush constantly, Signals was one of my least favorite Rush albums. 20 years later it's one of my favorites. Funny how time is like that.
These types of songs are my favorite from Rush. And of course there's Fear part 4 "Freeze" (Vapor Trails) also! Great theme! I've used it also in 2 of my songs inspired by Rush's "Fear" songs.
Im not sure who stole from who or if its just a coincidence but the intro part is a rip off of VISAGE (FADE TO GREY). Maybe they ripped RUSH off.Dont know.
@audio1358 Peart is a genius writer, imo. Rush rules! There is no band like them (imho). Thus, can any part OF LIFE be larger than life? Not so far as a human conscience and heart is concerned...
Love the Tangerine Dream influence to this! Even though Caress Of Steel era Rush represents the band at their most magical, I still love how they experimented in the 80's- unlike many bands today who experiment for the sake of experimentation itself.
Great video and song. I like the details you provided also. Signals was always one of my favs simply because it represented the change for rush to technology.
