  • Wow, the beginning of this lecture shed some serious light on my own preconceptions about South-East Asian countries. I never would have thought that Turkey's child mortality is higher than Sri Lanka's, for instance. I will definitely look into more of Hans Rosling's stuff.

  • Congratulations Dr. Rosling! Great presentation and VERY true.

  • I really like this guy

  • 2:20 - Yeah, them Nobel price judges are about as bright as Chimpanzees.

  • "Utan tvivel är jag inte klok"

    Hans Rosling

  • If you have a dream and a plan for a better world then unite with other social entrepreneurs from around the world: check out The Unreasonable Institute - lets make your dream a reality

  • Americans are stupid!! Thanks to swedish people like Hans they can continue develope wars around the world! Hans and many others is fantastic. So, americans! Keep on struggling with other arabic problems. We want to save the WHOLE world as a comparison!!

  • So he's saying that third world countries that start having less children have longer life expectancy? Seems like it promotes government should provide your security and not your children.

  • I understand his point, but it is still so arbitrary!

You are stating that vietnam is then like USA in the 70s, ok, my husband has been one month in vietnam two years ago... I can tell you... the states was not like that in the 70s. People live in conditions you would never imagine. That is the difference between FACTS and STATISTICS.

  • Yeah, but he is not talking about the everyday life, he is talking about how long people live and how many children the mothers have.

  • Depending on the country you come from you just might live longer than those in the West (I am talking about if you lived in the so called developing world). Some of these non-Western nations tend to have less polution and fresher food free of pesticides, growth hormones, and artificial aditives. Some place also have less polution and less stress. However, they tend to have little chance of upward social mobility for the young, so the young and motivated are forced to emmigrate.

  • This video is in too many places, copy of my post: Great idea, too bad it is linked to the ever common manipulation of data. It will take statistical analysis to determine the data's meaning, but you cannot have it without the data. Take for example his first table with family size to life expectancy. I can guarantee just because the US has smaller families it has less to do with life expectancy than a lot of other factors, gdp/capita only being one of those. Otherwise, I like the presentation.

  • I like this guy :)

  • lol gg china

  • If the third world is so great then why do so many people try to escape?

  • Because what they do in their countrys go to western world...

  • you're on target! we, the youth of the third world, are merely following the resources of our country which are rightfully ours.

  • When did he say the third world was great? I only heard him say that it is getting better...?

  • I'm from a large family in Green-Latin America, and I think that maybe, WE aren't experiencing simultaneously the same things with the Developed World, because, WE'D RATHER understand and see things in a completely different way; clearly. Is everything coming to a failure?!

  • Cool guy

  • The NWO doesn't want africa to develope because they know of the huge potential growth in every area of life would overtake the rest of the world really quickly. just a though.

  • the 'nwo' has nothing to do with it. it's a social problem.

  • Now that is a cool presentation.. lol

  • *completely new world* is overstated but Africa is still at bottom no matter how you cut it.

  • There's always going to be someone at the bottom.

  • Wow! Very interesting and very well presented! And so advanced! And with a touch of irony and humor. And what a spped!! Ha, ha!

  • In semi-arid South Africa 'white' farmers represent only 0.01% of the entire population yet produce all of the country's food on less than 6% of the country's surface area. This 40,000 strong group of hardy professionals managed to also feed most of southern Africa until just three years ago but are now being chased off by their government. that's why there's more and more famine in the rest of southern Africa.

  • Your comments R not factual, nor substantiated. Surely U also need to cite that for many years, colonial, apartheid and even post-apartheid years, many farmers also abused their 'black', 'coloured' and Indian workers in innumerable inhumane ways.

  • Without proper education in farming, the people taking over the former "white" farmland, won't be able to produce as much or as effectively. That's not unsubstantiated.

  • 60% of the workforce in all of africa is in agriculture. I've been there, that's all they do , jackass. They farm. That is their primary economic output. To imply that the africans are dependent on white farmers is blatant ignorance. However, famine is much more common in africa than anywhere else. This is due in part to social issues (africa is heavily diverse in heritage) and environmental issues. (africa is split by the equator, weather is more unpridictalbe)

  • Actually, aside from AIDS, most of Africa's problems are caused by it being a rural, agrarian society where most people practice subsistence agriculture and earn little or no income. When Europe was still agrarian, it had the same problems, with famine and starvation being routine, along with disease, low life-expectancy, and extremely high infant mortality.

  • @havocgate Fuck agrarian society. Modern Imperlialism is the problem. These countries are systematically robbed of their natural resources and standard of living by the IMF and World Bank. This Rosling guy is a fuckin NeoLiberal parasite.

  • The figures were obtained by taking unweighted averages of different IQ tests. The number of studies is very limited; the IQ figure is based on one study in 34 nations, two studies in 30 nations. There were actual tests for IQ in 81 nations. In 104 of the world's nations there were no IQ studies at all and IQ was estimated based on IQ in surrounding nations.[23] The number of participants in each study was usually limited, often numbering under a few hundred.

  • What a retard you are! Spam

  • You ignore the subjectivity of IQ tests. I've taken several and each said beforehand they are not the only measure of intelligence. Further, familiarity with the format and style of questions on an IQ test (through, for example, western-style schooling), increases results.

Many Africans may be unfamilar with the type of question and format of the test, which would negatively affect results.

We simply don't know enough about how these IQ tests were done to know if what you say is really Truth.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if that was accurate. But that's no reason to assume that it's got anyhting to do with genetics, which some (many) would like to imply. The africans share a lot more in common with each other than black skin and curly hair. Many of them live under the rule of a despot masked as a modern or semi-modern government. Most africans identify with a minor tribal background, rather than a national identity. a majority of africans are farmers... the list goes on.

  • too good..

  • I agree.
