  • just too much new order copy for my taste

  • I need to know what string-synth Carolyn is using in this song, can anyone help?! Greatest synth-string sound ever! Thanks!!!

  • this is basically new order

  • 1 gilipollas y garrulo

  • HEY EVERYBODIY OMID ROCKS MJY COFK OUT JUSTC FOR YOU TO KNOW

  • Looking at the very start of this video - at 0.01 seconds...you'd be forgiven for thinking that the girl there is Gillian and the video is New Order's The Perfect Kiss (which came out the following year - so in a strange way, it appears NO have copied The Wake!!!!!)

  • Awww they looked SO YOUNG here! Bless 'em.... Caesar is just a Glaswegian Bernard Sumner, whilst Carolyn is Gillian Gilbert......even their drummer is called Steve!! Take Alex the bassist out and they could BE New Order!! This came out the same year as New Order's equally gorgeous Thieves Like Us - and they could be companion pieces. We stayed at Caesar's once after a Wake gig in 1990.....it was great to meet up with them - signed to Sarah Records by then....

  • see the bassist, he was my english teacher last year :D

  • I have a couple of vinyl LPs of theirs, "Tidal Wave of Hype" and "Make It Loud", both released on Sarah Records. A wee bit different to this, but I love 'em dearly....

  • I thought it was New Order the first time i heard ie: Movement 1981-82. Love The Wake so much now because of this song, gutted i never heard them earlier :)

  • Wow, I was looking for the goth rock band "The Wake" when I found this. Not what I was looking for, but a great track. Now I have to explore this band. Thanks for posting this.

  • I hear New Order in some of the guitar riffs.

  • Have you heard the good news everybody is a star? ;)

  • cant get enough eh.

  • only the best <3

  • Playing in London on the 28th Feb - Lexington

  • they werent just scottish man they were part of factory reccords.. they were my favorite european record label that doesnt involve any punk rock background.. even though this is post punk era...

  • Did all Factory bands get the New Order Production treatment?

  • girls with short hair cut was in back in 80's lol

  • this one of the best band from the 80's.. love this song.. i still play this 12 inch @ the clubs..

  • increible

  • Brilliant! I love the album Here Comes Everybody so much

  • I agree, I have to say that it is one of my favorite albums.

  • my heart moved

  • The thumb down reviews were from people that apparently haven't been introduced to underground music from the 80's or any time period. Forgive them, they don't know any better.

  • Excellent tune! Any chance of someone posting the lyrics?

  • como dice en descripcion "una gema del indie escoces" excelente tema, toda una belleza. :-)

  • OMG one of my fav bands ever whoo hoo thanks sooo much i love that thanks and i still the lp vinyl version lol T-T

  • @Mhaza You have a treasure in your hands...

  • @ElComunicador93 thanks dude ^_^

  • Un chef d oeuvre !!! J ADOOOOOOOREEE je l ai deja écouter des millions de fois et je m en lasse pas. Dommage que le groupe a splitter si vite. L album Here comes everybody est une perle !!! Merci Cesar and cie I LOVE THE WAKE THE BEST OF THE BEST GROUP.....

  • I've got this ripper on 12 inch !!!!!!!!!!

  • Forget the current chart fodder masquerading as Indie - this is real Indie music at its purist and most beautiful. It's always been one of my favourite Factory releases but I've never seen a video before. Pity Vini Reilly didn't appear for his piano bit at the end. Brilliant post - thanks!

  • I'm making a guess but I know Gerry and I don't think he'd be too keen on doing a music video either way. He turned down a major label for the reason that he only wanted to release singles that weren't on an album. He's all about the art.

  • This sounds like something between New Order and Joy Division.

  • does anyone know which keyboard is that ?

  • OMG i cannot believe what i found here i love the wake sooo much thanks for posting tha song and huge hugs from Brazil with love ^_^

  • Painfully under rated, "Something Outside" is surely one of the finest singles of the 1980s, and this is pretty good too, despite the fact that the drums do sound worryingly like a "Yamaha Home Organ". The Peel Session version of "Uniform" remains one of the bleakest moments of the 1980s, as well as one of the best. A very fine band indeed.

  • Thanks for the post. One of my favorite Factory release! The keyboardist in the video does remind of Gillian Gilbert.

  • @fambient I thought this too

  • what guitar is that he plays and what sort of effect pedal is he using to achieve that banjo like sound.

    anybody know ?

  • good song and band.

And speaking about NO keyboardist, i prefer the way Carolyn plays

  • they're completely different bands if you think about it. different in lyrical content, different music and completely different characters.

  • @nicck they came from the same bloodline, these bands could be brother and sister or brother and brother etc. I can feel New Order in there as there is a bloodline that these two band share that is undeniable. The synth sound has a very distinct NO quality. But back then who knows, these two band could have inspired eachother, as I harldy think think they were trying to emulate NO.

  • New Order sued them yeah ?

  • New Order played with them you ponce

  • No idea why I got thumbs down. The Wake supported New Order on tour. At the factory all stars performance Caesar sang 'love will tear us apart' with bernard sumner on guitar.

  • the keyboardist must team up with gillian gilbert

  • This is a great video Alex is great

  • Glad I stumbled onto this, great song.

  • awesome!

  • Could you upload anymore videos by any chance? I'd love to see more of them

  • Should have been as big as New Order!

  • Alex (the bassist) is my psychology lecturer at college! =D

  • You are one lucky person!

  • cool, which college?

  • Coatbridge College, he teaches Higher & Int 2 psychology.

  • muy buen video
