@Guergy Because Yoshinori Ono is a troll and SFxT is his funhouse. He even created a poll asking which SF character should be added to the roster. Dan won by landslide...and then Ono changed Dan's name to the cats on the last day or something. The end result was that the Sony cats were revealed on the day Dan should have been. He's just trolling Dan's fans.

As for why Rufus? Well, Dan's been in his fair share of crossovers but Rufus hasn't been in any.

@Guergy Or maybe they felt Rufus's style would be a good fit for SFxT. He adds some variety--something Dan doesn't really do being a shotoclone. He's not really a joke character, anyway. There's a difference between "joke character" and "Fighting Clown". Rufus is the latter since he plays as well as any other character.

A joke to Americans? He seems more like a subversion of the negative American stereotype. He acts obnoxious but is actually an extremely competent fighter.

He knows the difference between practical and impractical moves. He knows the difference between moves that can and cannot be done.

Rufus ain't a bad fighter, and that's saying somethin', 'cause I've seen plenty of fighters! This one time I played Alpha 3 and there were heaps - but that was at some arcade. Arcades are cool, if you're into that kind of thing. I like the ones in the city - they're fun, and you can put credit on the card. That's better than putting coins in the machine. Coins in the machine just aren't as good. Especially if you don't like losing coins.. Y'know - coins can be used for heaps, including.. (etc)
