  • ur a natural! great job:)

  • beautiful, i love this piece, well played

  • Lovely. Thanks for posting. Very Inspiring.

  • Beautiful rendition of a hauntingly beautiful piece.

  • very nicely plaid !

  • Where'd you get the music for this piece?? I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE and I can't find it!!!! :(

You did very well though. Especially for a first year!! FABULOUS!!

  • @jennrenaee Go to amazon.com and search for, "Debussy Piano Preludes Book 2."

  • The beginning is extremely boring and i didn't quite enjoy how you interpreted this piece, surely you could of put a little bit of more passion and shape into the music to turn it a bit more joyful? xxx

  • the beginning does sound a little choppy, and just too damn slow haha, i've been practicing this piece (and others) for like the past 3 months (trying to perfect this piece), and i've noticed not many dynamics at all in your playing, needs more rubato in it, ands needs to sound more freely.....but i'm sure after 4-5 years, it's better (:

overall, thanks for sharing, it really relaxes the brain, just speed it up a little, add more rubato, and this piece will be perfect

  • awesome

  • first year? wow you seem to have been practising a lot in this time, or am i simply not good at learning as fast as you ? :D

  • I've got to disagree with some negative comments here. I think you did a good job. The music was very tranquil, but you did make the beautiful contrast at 1:40, and rejoined in peace. To me Debussy is music of dreams, not music marked by beats and overclear playing.

    спасибо большое!!

  • You made a video and you played this beautiful piece to put it on youtube so others can watch it... and I think this is a really great and brave thing to do. When someone criticize you too much then it's just because he/she can play it at all, or he/she just wants to say something negative anyway... So... just play how YOU think it's right!!! Just keep playing!!!! You did a good job!!!!!! Really!!!

  • To be honest, you may not sound like Rubinstein, but it's such a beautiful piece, and your effort is really worthwhile. Thank you for sharing, not everybody does, and that tells me that someone who shares his/her best, or the beautiful things you like, makes you outstanding!

  • Just between us brother you did a great job. I love it. I'm one of these theorist eggheads too you know and the difference is I know what I'm talking about most of the time. You play it how you like it and how you want it to sound. It's your self expression and the robots don't like that. They act like they've never heard of a theme with variations o r improvisation before and they like to forget that their sacred musical periods were the bastardization of the last. Keep playing, your awesome!

  • This is one of my all-time favorite classical songs, and you played it so beautifully! I especially like the drifting hesitation in the piece that is so hard to get the flow of, but it was executed perfectly.

  • great, well done.

  • a little slow,otherwise very good.

  • you did very OK!...don't let the negative comments get you...you are brave to post, and i enjoyed your rendition!

  • little to slow i think but the notes are good

  • Thank you for sharing this piece with us. I would give anything to play piano as you do!

  • Thank you for sharing this piece with us. It is really wonderful!!

  • I'll never forget my music theory teacher asking our class, "how old is she, and provide support for your answer by using clues from the music!" I always loved this piece - thanks for posting!

  • Please get your piano tuned!

    Otherwise fair interpretation.

  • Alright all you math and science debaters. Obviously Debussy was trained in the rigorous and technical French school where no eighth note went uncounted. But this is IMPRESSIONISM people!! Bring some love and joy and beauty into the music!

  • @legallucy well, just for the sake of argument, impressionism was a counter to romanticism, which was truly the era of strong emotion. Impressionism is supposed to be more mysterious and complex than just happy/sad major/minorism of the romantic period.

I do agree that technique gets you nowhere unless you know what do with it, however.

  • i think your really good :)

  • I love this piece so much. What a beautiful piece!

  • Your piano needs to be accorded.. Nice play whatever.

  • I love this song! (L) 5 stars!

  • I think you should all stop talking and listen to the music. Its beautiful, well done.

  • Technically, very very accomplished. But at times I wonder if you were feeling it in this rendition. You have to concentrate more on the feeling conveyed in this piece than I think you did. Then again you did say you were rusty.

  • it was okay. your very good. but i wasn

t really feeling the emotion from behind my computer screen. :)

  • wish I could play my keyboard as well you play your piano! Bravo sir!

  • I thought it was done with the right approach. I liked it.

  • I studied theory and comp...good playing...you play piano better than I....composing is a whole other story...work on both and don't let professors get you down.

  • Well done :}

  • a bit faster please

  • Why???

  • this song is kinda difficult.. im getting betta

  • Wow. that's all i can say. if you thought that was rusty...i wanna hear your best! i am playing this song now your playing made me want to go back and practice it more! great job!

  • good use of notes and rhythm but DON'T forget to make use of making the music come alive with dynamics and SERIOUSLY... DON'T forget to put some soul into. this piece is perfect for movement and grace and soul. and isn't that what music is all about?

  • Ahhhh! thin sounding camera!

It already is really good, but I can't get over how thin the sound is when it should swell.

  • hey everyone, im gonna politely disagree with this guys opinion, im not gonna bash him for.

    i beg to differ angelodeaf

  • I appreciate your pleasant demeanor, although you disagree. I don't recall (nor do I currently see) what I originally posted here, but I'm sure that it was a sarcastic statement regarding the difference between viewing music as an art versus a science. Claude DeBussy viewed music as a science. He is a respected authority in the field of music composition, but I personally find his work to be robotic and mechanical in nature.

It is never popular to criticize the Emperor's new clothes.

  • have you ever heard claire de lune? if that is scientific, then i have never heard a more meaningful and soothing scientific art masterpiece.

  • @Boonyakieat Who syas that science isn't an art? Or mathematics, for that matter.

  • what do you define music as a work of art?

  • I'm not sure that I understand your question. I suspect that English is a second language for you?

How does one define art? Hmm, a difficult question to answer, that one. I am of the opinion that it has much to do with one's own personal preferences. One thing is certain -- if you disagree with someone else's assessment of what is art, then you should be prepared for emotional attacks from those with whom you disagree. :-)

No doubt DeBussy used mathematical formulae in his compositions.

  • check out David Hume for your answer

  • "Mathematics and logic are closed systems, disguised tautologies, and have no relation to the world of experience."

    David Hume

  • i don't really like how you interpreted this piece. the beginning sounded choppy and i'm not sure what mood you were trying to convey overall.

  • That's what happens when a theory/comp major plays an instrument.

  • XD...I would appreciate it if you could send me your analysis of the different chords in this piece and their implications,

Or just an analysis in general, I am arranging this right now.

  • @indiemaxell shut up?

  • @indiemaxell I've been playing piano since 1st grade and if I do 2 more exams I'll be quailified to teach and I have NO idea what you just said :S I think that's a bad sign XD

  • @indiemaxell - wow, you're a dick.

  • YES. and i think in many pieces, especially romantic and impressionist songs, it's very difficult to capture the right feeling. Sometimes it's harder than the songs. I have just started learning more modern pieces this past year. before this i played baroque, mozart, czerny and friends for almost six years. x)

  • i just started playing this. I think it's definitely possible to play with ample analyzation beforehand. I find it rather difficult of course since I;m still in grade 7 piano.

  • I think analysis is crucial with a piece like this! It's so lush and colorful a good understanding is invaluable; it's best to play without HAVING to look at the music to be as expressive as possible (of which I'm not a great example).

I think the analysis is especially important because the music looks more difficult than the structures and harmonies are in reality.

  • That was so pretty... I loved how you played it. You have alot of talent =)

  • nice! =)

this is in my grade 8 book...

  • That is my favourite piano song of all time! And the best thing about it is that its too hard to become a cliche! I'm tryin to learn it for my leaving cert, but its slow. Youre awsome!

  • good stuff :) i only heard one note off... but very good !!!

  • Any idea what grade this is for? I finished my grades about 5 years ago but this piece was never on the syllabus and I was always wondering what grade it was as I bought the sheet music for it and I think it's kinda difficult.

  • This is beyond a "grade" level. It's a difficult piece, especially considering the ways you can interpret the notation due to the period. The preludes from Debussy's two books (of preludes) are considered virtuoso pieces so don't be discouraged by the difficulty. Keep practicing! At the time I recorded this I'd practiced it for months and months (and was, by this time, rusty on the piece so...) and you can see that I'm not terrific. Just keep at it; Debussy won't let you down!

  • @mafiapick uhhh no? lol i know you posted this like 2 years ago but this is grade 7 level. its not beyond grade level.... and its not as difficult as you say it is... im doing this piece for my grade 7 exam.

  • I'm doing it for grade 7 currently AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board)

  • Oh. Sorry, but I'm just an American and am not familiar with the AMEB system. :(

  • Esta bien ,pero para que este mejor debe tocarlo un poco mas ligero , mas en el aire.Hay que recordar que es impresionista.

Pero muy bien ,quedare excelente con mas practica.

  • Weel Done.

  • i love this song. you play it absolutely brilliantly. well done.

  • the finger touch is not very good.but that's fine.

    Keep it on!

  • andrewliuboy2002: Your punctuation and capitalization are not good. I recommend you give up all typing.

  • absolutely beautiful... i love this song

  • Just by looking at those hands I can tell that you are one sexy individual.

  • lol, i agree completley

  • You make it look so easy! I'm just starting this piece and I've only been playing for just under a year. Seeing people succed in playing it correctly makes me feel better about struggling through it because now I can see (and hear) how it's done. Thanks 4 tha vid! :)

  • This is far from shallow. I don't know where you come from or who you think you are.

  • This fuckhead has a doctorate in piano performance.

  • "He?" I'm not the guy in the video, you know.

  • I don't have a doctorate. What gave that idea?

  • Can't argue with that comeback. lmao

  • Absolutely wonderful.

  • very nice, I play this on guitar, I love the ascending fourths around 2:40

  • this is one if my favorite debussy's

i'm surprised this song doesn't get more attention

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us. Yes, your piano could get some tuningcare... yet, your sensitiveness, your timing and subtle touch far than compensate flaws of the instrument. People play music. The best Steinway is nothing without a musician.

  • Get you piano tuned mate.

  • sounds alright to me cloth ears!

( your piano; get your keyboard fixed )

  • That was very well done! Keep it up.

  • Very well done, cuz.

  • thats really nice

  • I will gladly re-post this comment for you Jon Brown...

    "beautiful, Jon."

    see you soon...

    lovelovelove,

    m...

  • thanks! I can't believe I accidentally deleted it! One of my other good friends made a video response to my first video and I accidentally delted that too. Man, I suck!
