  • I like the Strat, but the les paul is apparently better for hair growth

  • See, this is great. Guitarists playing for the love of music. Too much bashing going on in youtube atm. Les Paul sounds great btw. Do I her a bit of SRV?

  • Les Pauls All The Way xxx

  • @MrsChikaaTalula Thanks Hannah!!

  • Guys that was pretty dam good. I am in the process of looking to start myself and looking to spend about 500. But just can't make up my mind on which model of guitar to get. And this blues stuff is growing on me I must say. Any recomendations?

  • @boss9915 if you like the blues its fender all the way! i own a les paul and a fender squire but i would prefer playing the blues on the fender.. the les paul tone is very rich dont get me wrong.. but a fender is more suited for bluesy guitar playing.. hope that helps

  • The les paul makes the strat sound whimpy

  • strat once again rules. better clarity. les pauls and humbucker guitars in general sound muddy.

  • man i wish my buddies and i could do this, but neither of us can play any kind of blues this well haha

  • I can't decide which I like more! Awesome job guys, you both have shown how these two instruments compliment each other very well.

  • les paul too loud...

  • Strat kills for blue shuffle! Both were awesome though!

  • at what age did you start playing???

  • phil wins hands down. his playing has more feeling and isnt as stiff and flat as the other guy

  • Don't give him a big head....lol!!! He's a monster!!

  • haha sorry man. Your playing was pretty good too man but in alot of your other vids it was better. I do love your technique better also

  • No problem....one thing is, I wasn't quite loud enough. Phil's got wonderful technique...he's little less sloppy in his technique than I am. Thanks for listening!!

  • haha no thank you man. I love listening to your videos man. Not many people on youtube have really good blues/ classic rock guitar videos. And thanks for some of the "blues you can use" lessons. Really helped me be a bit more creative and gave me alot of good ideas

  • @skydog46 hi! the strato is custom shop 60?...

  • two iconic guitar, blending together very smoothly.. good job guys....

  • They seem to compliment realy well.v cool

  • the strat seems more bluesy to me...thats my opinion

  • can someone please tell me the chord that phil starts playing on?

  • that put a smile on my face! both were awesome, but for those who said the les paul was better pretty much most les pauls dont sound that way these days sadly, the pickups gibson puts in em arent as paf style or great, i think dan has paf style pickups in his. Great job again guys, i would love to see phil use his nocaster in a duel against the les paul!

  • So would I !!

  • That Les Paul is one MEAN piece of machinery. LP wins hands down.

  • i don't think that you should use a les paul goldtop for blues .. !

  • you guys are both great! But I agree with mitscan, you need a Tele.

  • actually the dude the les paul should stick with rhythm or bass...cuz that dude with the stat can "dynamically" tear shit up!

    seven stars

  • really really good!! 5 stars

  • This video shows clearly that both Strats and LPs are superb for blues when played by good players through good amps. These guys flat out rock. Throw in a Tele and that'll do the trick, too.

  • nice to jam with on my fender bass...

    love it guys!

  • they are both great for blues a strat just has single coil pickups for blues and thinner body and dtright pull where les paul has the full milky tone cuz of the thick body and the humbucking pickups they are both great for blues!

  • Strats are made to play the blues. Nothing against Les Pauls; I use a Les Paul as my main guitar, but Strats are better for the blues.

  • Had to post this one on my myspace..Loved the blues from both of you...would buy a LP tho...

  • me to

    strats mellow

    les paul bite oww!!

les paul bit me finger LOL

  • oy this is just my opinion, but does anyone else think that the real difference between the strat and the lp is the fact that the fender is the better sounding guitar for solos, and the lp sounds sick for rythm guitar parts? (in this video def. please dont tell me to go listen to jimmy pages stuff, i do.)

  • @blackskullbass I agree and in fact the leads of the strat sound better cause of the great backing by the LP

  • i think!!! that fender and gibson should make out, hit a home run and make the greatest guitar of all time YEHHHHHH!!!! oh wait.... i think thats the paul reed smith.

lols jk, im all out for the fender strats bitch yah!

  • Strat seems to have more of a bite where the LP has more of of a mellow tone.

  • i think exactly the opposite O.o lol but i own both there is no choosing they both are better at different things

  • I love this! I got a Les paul and i can play the hard rock like slash jimmey piage and then since me and my dad also love blues we can play some Duane Allman,i love it i cant wait to get a Strat when i get some money!

  • fantastic playing. u people are true blues players

  • haha man, you put so much money into all your les pauls haha

  • les pauls, nothing like em.

  • Well, I also am a fan of both guitars, but to me the sweet mellow tone of that Les Paul just oozed out. Sounded alot like B.B. King a couple of times.

  • Really great... I think i prefer the strat sound here, but i'm a fan of both...

  • Wow, they sound great together.

Have to say though, I preferred the Strat, and I'm a Gibson guy!

  • what kind of les paul is that?

  • wow! that's really hard to decide! i'd have to say the LPs better for soloing, but the fender's amazing too. I have a strat, but I'm about to get a Paul, so i'll have both.

  • YEAH! Thats what I had to do! I could not decided, so the only decision was to get both!

  • i had just a strat but bought a les paul today, so now i have both. killer combo.

  • Les Paul and Strat together

  • "That was good..."

No, that was awesome. I'd have to say that I preferred the tone of the Strat better in this one, but the playing by both was just terrific!

  • 2 amazing guitars and 2 amazing players grat!

but i meen neather guitar is beater i meen the strat did what strats do and les paul did what les pauls do.

  • I don't do blues, but this is awesome!!

  • Haha, I've got a Strat but I sure wouldn't mind having a Les Paul around. They sounds pretty damned good together.

    Good playing guys, nice feel.

  • hey where did u get ur 54 lp conversion?

  • I'd love to have both, especially a lp goldtop like that one. I have a MIM 60th anniversary strat and I love it because I can play pretty much anything with it. I would prefer a lp when I'm playing Slash maybe, but for what I'm into right now (BLUES!) the strat is king. Plus, I have an Ibanez Jetking and it's got the dual humbuckers. In the end, 90% of your sound comes from the pickups and the amp, so if you have pickups you like and an amp you like, stuff like fingerboards doesn't matter.

  • Great playing! I'm a Strat player -- but both that and the LP sound awfully fine through those BF amps! You guys are very good together. Thanks for posting.

  • Oooooohh, '65 Relic... *salivates*

Anyway, I'm obviously a Fender guy, but I'm also one of those "rebels" who sees the value in both kinds. I just appreciate that this is the first video of this topic I've seen that just shows the two for what they are and does so in a collaborative instead of competitive way. Very nice, indeed:)

  • Very nice, guys.

  • Not my kind of music, but you guys KICK ASS! Much RESPECT!!! And oh yeah... FENDER RULES!!!

  • one uh two uh buckle my shoe

  • nice goin' guys!!

  • i like how each player plays what you would expect from a strat player or lp player respectively. The strat player is leaning towards and stevie clapton vibe but the lp player seems influenced by bb.

  • the strat has an unbelievable piercing crysal tone while the les paul dishes out a chunky powerful cutting sound. Personally i'd go for a strat but i own both so whatever.

  • Both these guitars and thier owners are great! My preference though has to be with the LP. I've tried out the starts for a while, but I don't like the shape of the body or of the neck, and the tones aren't quite what I like.

Les Pauls though, man... I fell in love with mine at Guitar Center... They feel so much better to me, the neck is so smooth, and the notes sound out so much louder and deeper. thier works of art.

Great guitars, but I'll stick with Gibson. =]

    Keep up the awesome plaing!

  • Gibson! lovin the goldtop

  • Awesome video, great playing! I loved both of the sounds, but if I had to choose, I would go with the Les Paul

  • strats can get a nice clean tone whereas les pauls i think can only get a blues tone so id prob go with a strat but id love to get both!

  • gibson gibson gibson!!

  • In my opinion the Les Paul is a one trick pony, only able to dish out plain rock, it does a fricken awesome job of it, but the more versatile of the two is the Fender.

Playability is personal preference, so those comments can be disreguarded.

In my opinion strats can achieve a much broader spectrum of sounds, from blues to rock and even metal (Iron Maiden & Megadeath play strats). Its like the rosewood vs maple arguments, it all comes down to personal preference, so try out both. :)

  • i like les pauls better then strats but the strat sounded just right for the piece you guys were playing it was amazing

  • strat imo isnt good for rock as much as the les paul and i am a rock and roll kid

  • the strat sounds more alive than the les paul

  • i say les paul i dont really like the single coil but on my lp i added burstbuckers whcih sounds pretty good

  • i love gibsons and fender's i own a lp and several tele's. if i could only have one guitar for the rest of my life it would be a tele. but i love my lp too. i like the way fender's feel/play in your hands. but for some songs you cant beat that tone/sustain of a gibson

  • you cant compare them

  • it depends on what type of music u want to play if u want to play hard rock and metal and rock n' roll get the les paul, it has that bawlsy loud sounds, like slash, jimmey page, zakk wild. that stratocaster is ment for that blues eric clapton, jimi Hendrix style.

  • not so. b.b. king plays a gibson ! clapton used to play a gibson ! and jimi used to play a gibson. just as tons of hard rock or metal players use fender over gibson !

  • les paul on neck is much nicer than strat, but im gonna have to go with the strat

  • I love the Strat solo sound as much as i love the Les Paul rythem. In a perfect world I would have them both. The same goes for the strat rythem lead to the les paul lead, but that is jsut spiltting hairs, ARGH i cant decide!!!!!!!

  • psssssssssssssssssssssssst.........les paul!!!

  • STRATO

  • STRATO

  • Both winners..but i am partial the strat QUACK!!

  • my jaw is in my back pocket! very inspiring!!!!

  • STRATO

  • How much was that conversion?

  • dude yaw are just amazing way to keep the blues alive fellas

  • amazing to say the least........i am blown away! even after the 2nd time watching.....its amazing how much you guys are one the same page!!

  • wow! first things first, that was magnificent playing and a wonderful demo of the two. the great tone and smoothness of the strat comes across as does the sustain and sharpness of the les paul. for what its worth, im an lp man and i prefered the sound when the lp was on lead and the strat on rhythm, but they are both glorious instruments. the endless lp vs strat debate will always ultimately come down to personal opinion and this video shows that as well as anything does, both epic.

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • nice blues,,, i like the combination,, even if im a strat fan and even saw it better,, the les paul also played superb,,, nice \m/

  • GREAT JOB! Both delivers that spanky twang!

  • wow! great playing i am a big les paul fan [i got 1] but in this i have to say i like the strat which i dont normally like

  • Bravo, my hat off to you two great players. Thank you.

  • and also, AWESOME blues playing fellas

  • im more of the gibson fan. but i love both guitars!! i have a strat and a paul... i love both of their rythmn and lead tones for blues, all the combinations are unique but they are all very good! love em both to death

  • Les Paul for rhythm, Strat for lead.

  • right u are,, \m/

  • I play a Strat but both are soo good in this clip :)

  • whoaaa

Fender, Fender. The sound is so rich in tone.

LPs are good 2, no doubt.

    Nice playing btw.

  • I think a Les Paul needs to be turned up to hear what it's true tone is all about.

  • Either the old guy is a better player, or the strat just kick's ass!

  • That's funny!! He wont like that. He's younger than me.

  • great jam. can tell the difference of the sound easily...thanks.

  • those are two very unselfish players right there. Good to see some legit guitar playing on youtube. Judging from this video i wouldnt be able to choose between the strat or LP.

  • its justs wat fit ur hand!! go strat!!!

  • That les paul sounds soooo good, the strat puts a nice touch on it all. Good job guys

  • you guys sound awesome

  • Great video. You can really tell the size and sustain of that Les Paul. And the sweet lead tones out of that Strat!

I say you need both. And a Tele/SG variation works too :)

  • I like the sound when the strat was playing with lp behind it

  • Nice playing! I prefer strats myself (single pups and maple fretboards fit me better), but I won't say that they're "better." Hell, I'd have both if I could afford it.

  • it was really really nice lisening to you guys. great playing!

They both sound great. It's just a matter of what you prefer more. I think that both guitars sound just like they look like...

  • pretty even, but im not a fan of the clean bridge sound on lp. great playing by both though.

  • Both sound great and I'm a LP guy.

  • It's hard to say witch is honestly better. Being that the Strat is an icon that all guitars are pretty much based off of. And the Les Paul is an icon when it comes to hard rock.

Both are great. I prefer Strats only because I like Single coil pups.I like the "plucking" noise :P

  • both guitars sound really nice together.

    i personally prefer the lp.

    they both have good tone.

  • Nice blend!

  • Great stuff

  • Fenders sound better to my ear for blues playing

  • I really enjoyed that :)

I personally like Les Pauls, but my experience is soon to be all Strats because i have decided to go blues and my dad plays a strat for blues. Really good playing guys, please do some more!

  • lp sounds nice on the higher notes

    strat sounds nice all around

    thats my strange opinion

  • STRAT. YEAH!!!! FENDER ALL THE WAY.

    (A little because of Clapton)

  • love that strat tone. sounds rolling and sharp. both guitars do their tones perfectly, that les paul is warm and smooth. still gotta hand it to that strat, love it.

  • Enjoyed the video, but I'm bias I own a LP Studio...

  • is that a 62 reissue strat?

  • 65 relic.

  • 65 "Wildwood 10"

  • Killer playing. I liked both tones, you both utilize the tones of your guitars really well.

  • Well said. Thanks!!

  • I own one of each both super high end.

I have to give it to the Les Paul though, as it has a more full sound.

Strats are fast and light but seem to sound thin and to twangy for my taists.

  • usually I like the Strat..

but I gotta hand it to the gibson on this one

  • There are only three men who could pull of a Fender. Slowhand, Jimi, and SRV.

  • Whah???

  • and Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Frasciante, John Mayer, Mike McReady(Pearl Jam), Eddie Van Halen, etc

  • Um... Eric Clapton?

  • yngwie

  • Gott love that big Les Paul tone, the strat is nice, but it sound too little and light for my liking.

  • That was pretty sweet. I prefer the Les Paul's sound, though.

  • foot tappin the whole time, 5 stars.

  • i just like the strat better but the les paul has a good tone it just dosent cut through as nice as the strat to my ears but each to there own

  • GIBSON FOR LIFE!!!! (The Strat was pretty beastly tho)

  • GIBSON FOR LIFE!!!! (The Strat was pretty beastly tho)

  • that les paul sounds awesome. And i am a les paul man. It sounds immense on the rythem, and so so sooo nice on the solo.

The strat doesn't sound as good on the the rythm, but i does sound pretty sweet on the solo too.

playing wise, les pauls are nicer to play

  • great duo but I'm a strat man.

  • i actually own both myself, got a Robert Cray Signature Strat, and a Les Paul Custom, and Les Paul standard

i use the les Paul for jazzy stuff, as well as when iam playing a bit of heavy rock

the strat is great for blues, and pretty damn good when u want a solid rock rhythm

great work guys, i hope to do something like this myself with a friend!

  • the strat sounds really punchy. i love it

  • tetsu0sh0 the pickups in a strat are 3 single coil pickups and les paul are 2 humbuckers

  • great guys!! Both you all is great...that strat dude sure knows killer rythyms!!!! keep it up fellas...I could hear that all nite long!

  • Exelent!!!

  • woah.

what pickups are in that strat??

    It sounds beautiful.

  • Les Paul's tone is widely better than the Strat's one.

  • only on rythm, solo that strat just like owns it or whatever you want to say.

  • pretty hard thats actually pretty hard to do

  • wooow the strat owned the LP

  • i know, but if the lp had p90s then... well his loss.

  • woooo this strat raped the les paul

    amazing tone

  • Different sounds!!!

do you want blues? the Gibson... do you want Rock?.. use the strat... each one for me are the best in their context!!!

  • other way around

  • they is amazing

    !!!!

  • as much as I love LPs I say the strat sounds so much sweeter and brighter tone for blues. but to be fair you guys should switch out on guitars and see what happens

  • Nice.

  • wahouuu the strat have a very nice sound

  • I think the strat is the best for blues and is alltogether just a more fun instrument

The sound is great by the both of them its a very smooth bluesy sound I Like it very much.

  • don't have comparation.

The amazing live sound of strats destroy the death sound of gibson.

but this guy didn't give us the best that a Strat can do....

  • Hey guys, you know the music well.

  • Long live the Blues! You just don't get tired of the sweetness!

  • Hey guys I own both and love both for there distinctive tone. You guys sound awesome I could listen to that all day. Great job and thanks for posting.

  • great combo. like my group we have a lp with '57 and a stratocaster. i prefer strato all the way on the rythm and the LP on the solo, much sweet!

  • yea, ill have to go with the les paul

  • Strat forever!!!

  • just great.. i think both guitars are great... but i prefer stratocasters sound and appereance..

  • This is amazing

  • Sweeet blues. Personally, I think it's how you use your instrument that counts. But I loved both of them.

  • Pretty frickin' phenomenal!!!

  • Great!

  • les paul and strat friends? you know there like the 2 biggest rivals best from both companies have been going against each other for what like 50 years ?

  • Great vid anyway

This PAF's tone is so sweeeet ...

some days I'll fly from poland and steal this awsome Les Pauls from your home Dan ^^ (joke)
