Lets be fair here. its a 6 hr day... :) 8-2.. (or is that 8:30-2)? i am required to put in a minumum of 9 hrs per day.. so i go into work for 8:15am and stay until 6:15pm.. then an hour commute each way, so 2 hours driving each day (at a cost of 270/month in gas costs) basically I work 10 hrs/day, and required to be online after work, on call some wknds. I have 401K that isn't guaranteed, and i pay 160/month for insurance. and they contribute? (6 hr day, summers off, bennies/pension...
When a student has desire to learn and apply themselves, they succeed as that child with SP did. but he is what i term an exception. his own battles with his illness has created a fighting spirit to succeed which drove him to work at school.. too bad there is only 1 example in the entire school they could show. again.. the exception to the rule... kids are failing in this country.. and its not getting better... (and i blame parents too, not just teachers and admins)
The root cause to this issue and many others is not easily understood unless we spend time on getting educated on the facts which are not taught in schools or colleges. Please try this GOOGLE: CAJeffO index

@Javy2727 I am presently a Spanish teacher in Ohio and some of the blame can be attributed to parents and students. When a teacher call parents to inform that a student is not doing well and do not get backing from parents, well of course the child will fail. Furthermore, there are students that just don't care.
@Javy2727 A teacher can have the best lesson plan or use the best technology in the classroom. One of the biggest problems soem students are not motivated to learn. If the child does not want to learn he will not. Education must start at the home. If a child does not get that type of support, there is a possiblity he will fail or have difficulties in school .
@Javy2727 In the case of Central Falls High school, it is my understanding that many of the students, over 60%, are immigrants and do not speak English at home. It takes time to learn a foreign language. More ESL teachers are needed in that school.
They did a documentary on the teachers and the kids way back in 2007..
Listen for the counselor at 13:25. He cant even speak English let alone read it, he says "witch ya" In place of "with you". These teachers are making 60-$70,000 and they talk like grade 3-4 Kids. What chance do the students have.
Well make sure you PAY your property taxes this year. I am going on a European vacation this summer! thank God I can afford it as a RI teacher with my $80,000/year top step salary, excellent medical and dental benefits and a great pension plan! all this for working 180 days a year for 6 1/2 hours a day! What a great job!!! Pay your taxes on time cuz I want to book my summer European vacation as soon as possible!!!!
Some of us do...Its called "HOME SCHOOLING".Because were so afraid to let the teachers get a hold of them. When were not working 12 hours to the teaches 6.5 hours a day to pay taxes, we do.....
Attention Teachers...Your soft cushy days are numbered. When half the U.S. population can't read or do math above gr 3 and their adults. Which means you've been slaking for a long time.Trust me, its over for you. Even the prezz won't back you.
I volunteered for yrs in a Maine Elementary schools because the teachers NEED help......budgets been cut,,,,,,,,,,,,teachers are dealing with language barriers,,,,,,,,no supplies........many kids drugged on Ritalin............
I have a cousin that manages a school that is worse than this one. He sat down and talked to the teachers and worked it out with them. The teachers didn't want to put in more time then they did there either.but they worked it out because he knew his job. Why did super Gallo not talk and work it out. If she knew what she was doing it would have been a piece of cake for her but she fired them instead. Why? Because she is worhless.
At last ... clearly there are good teachers and bad teachers and inbetween teachers .. but something, and something big!! has got to change if there is to be any progress... anyone close to the schools knows that there are dead, as schools. Time for change
I am glad that the administrators had the courage and strength to take the correct steps in solving the obvious problems at Central Falls High HS. There was a former head of the AFL-CIO union that was asked "What about the children?" and he responded, 'I'll care about the children when they are old enough to vote in union matters.' That's the attitude union teachers and their reps bring to the table. Well out on your asses and look for new kids to not teach!
Hey UGAyankee it doesn't take courage to make over $200,000 and fire teachers. Stop lying nobody said that. That is a rumor you started. Why aren't you asking what the superintendent did while she lead this school down the drain. This was purely a political move on her part to save her own ass. She could have done a lot of things before she got this far but she did nothing. Superintendents can make a lot of difference in schools like this but she did nothing. She is the one that should be fired.

These teachers needed to be fired 7% of the students are passing math.93% of the kids will be on welfare or in jail.

You are totally correct!

That girl student with the black jacket and eye glasses pretending to cry and trying
to contain her laughter is so freakish. The superintendent gets big bucks, but when people are doing it for free? That's weird.

These students could not even speak English properly. Perhaps they can be the next group of teachers at Central High ?
