  • Wonderful !Great to see all the big stars of MGM stepping out! Wallace Beery is smiling because he had something up his sleeve! Just 2 hours later, he was pulling a practical joke on Garbo with Will Rogers. After the end, Will spoke to the crowd and asked Garbo to join him onstage. Out comes Beery dressed in drag as Garbo, simpering as Will Rogers pleaded with "her" to stay in this country...a gag that bombed. The audience walked out. Rogers had to print an apology in the papers next day!

  • Norma sounds like a talking chicken

  • "I'm on a Wally-name basis with Wallace Beery!"

  • I read in a 1932 paper that this premiere was broadcast coast to coast on April 29 by the National Broadcasting Co for 30 minutes. Radio of course. Two of Gloria Swanson's ex-husbands are seen here.. Mayer: I am a robot. I talk like a robot. Who is Joan saying Hello too? I cant make it out. Maybe because of those ridiculous fake accents they all had to use. The eeriest part is seeing Jean Harlow with her future husband Paul Bern......dead. only a few months later.....unsolved mystery.

  • She says hello to Renee Adoree, who was very sick and died one year later.

  • @Jotaemesg, Thank you! I still could not make out who she said so thank you for responding. This era is so interesting to me..I learn more every day.

  • @nostalgiajunkie70 "Two of Gloria Swanson's ex-husbands are seen here". I recognize the Marquis de la Falaise, who is the other one?

  • @wilburbonzo, She was married to Wallace Beery at about 2:50

  • @nostalgiajunkie70 Yes, she was, he was her first husband, I'd forgotten about him!

  • this is so CLEAR...WOW

  • This is fascinating, that's mucho for putting it up. Grand Hotel was the first "all star" picture.

  • Great transfer and I'd kill to have that book of autographs!
