  • No, I don't refuse to play it, I just let them know that I don't carry it. Like I said, I show them the playlist and they know far in advance what they will be getting. One guy did ask if I had YMCA and I just gave him a funny look and told him "um...no." I also told him that I was playing nothing but 1950's music. He said, "Oh well, play Bill Haley then. See, one time I played newer music at a 50's reunion and got complaints, so I don't do it anymore. They want to hear "their" music.

  • I DJ too, but I'm a purist on the 1950's reunions and I let the reunion committees know ahead of time that I only carry 1950's music and show them the playlist, which is extensive. I like to play stuff that takes them back to high school. I refuse to play YMCA...I mean, I will play the Chicken Dance before that...LOL!

  • That's great! But to refuse to play a requested song by the client because you are a 'purist' does not seem to be a very smart move. I play to the clients wants, not to my own. You can lose a good client real quick like that.

  • The DJ could have done a little better on playing music from 1957 and before. The YMCA??!!! Oh brother! Well, at least it looks like everyone had a good time.

  • As the DJ, I thought it was an odd song for this group as well. But they requested it and we always aim to please!!!!
