I saw them a few months ago in LA, and they are by far the best live band I've ever seen. This song was even more beautiful live. I'd like to add that one shouldn't take things too literally since they might be a bit disappointed in what they find. The subject of this song (and many others) is anything but holy. However, the beauty of Devotchka is that they can sing about the most iniquitous of things and turn them into a romantic tragedy. Take this for what we feel, not what we believe.
This band is everything music should be. Brilliant, heart-wrenching, inspiring, thought-provoking, beautifully simple....there just aren't enough words to describe.... It comes from a force that is too powerful any one person to posess, that it why they have to share it with the world.
