Nightwish kicks ass, Great lyrics, all around, everything about them is GREAT. I don't care what people say. I can't really into Epica, something about her voice, idk. They're alright. Leaves' Eyes, I love them too, GREAT lyrics, the main reason I'm into the Viking period I guess. Never really heard Visions of Atlantis, I'll check them out. Sirenia is GREAT, love her voice. After Forever, OMG Floor's voice is AMAZING, Elis is awesome. SABINE forever!!! Check out DRACONIAN, Lisa Johannson is cool

oh please, todo bien con simone pero ella no le llega ni a los talones a tarja, Tarja es una cantante profesional y tiene un registro mas amplio, simone tiene una voz mas dulce, pero ella no hace nada sin el coro. La unica q esta al nivel de tarja es Floor (after forever) y la peor es sharon de within temptation....esa mina si que no sabe cantar.

Yes. I agree Visions of Atlantis is right there by Nightwish (finally someone who thinks so, too). But Epica's lyrics are beautiful and it took me months to start liking After Forever but now some of their songs like "Dreamflight" and "Empty Memories"... I don't know how I ever got along without them (Especially Dreamflight it seriously takes you somewhere else). I don't like Edenbridge that much, either.

Nightwish, Within Temptation, After Forever, and Epica are all EXTREMELY similar. They're all symphonic metal, have female lead vocalists, are all from Europe, 3 out 4 are Dutch bands, and 3 out of 4 have a male back up vocalist that's known for growling.

-epica does basically the same, but adds in alot of film score sounds.

-nightwish has a lot of film music and folk music in their songs

-and within temptation mixes alternative metal, goth rock, and film trailer music.

well, i know they are all symphonic metalbands, or if you will gothic bands, but i think they are pretty difrent. for instance WT isnt evenmetal, its rock. the lyicsof nightwish go way deeper then the other bands lyrics. epica and after forever are a bit more heavy then the other 2. theres a diffrence between the new music of after foever and epica but not between their old music. thats caue epica was founded by simone and mark(the singers) after mar left after forever for wanting to keep making

I'm not a big fan of Leaves Eyes, but the rest? ... Plenty of Nightwish's songs are truly legendary, I think, and Epica's my most favorite band ever. Visions of Atlantis is cool too, sure. I would pick Epica, Nightwish and Tristania to my top three. Wonderful taste though. Love symphonic metal.

You are missing a lot of great goth bands, first i think leaves' eyes needs more force to be a true gothic band, nightwish is not gothic metal, it's power metal, just because tarja (in that time) is a soprano, doesn't mean they are gothic, and well epica is my fav one... but yeh you are missing a lot of gothic bands, work on that.

I agree. "Gothic" as in the music style, these bands are not. They do have a romantic gothic look about them, but its not their style. I love the bands shown here. (Brittney Spears can dress in a Victorian busle gown, but she'll still suck :D)

I think that since the line between gothic & symphonic metal has become rather vague in the past years (at the beginning they were truly 2 distinct genres, but they gradualy become more & more alike), I don't think it's realy sooo bad she mixed them up...

It has not really become vague. Because the top bands that started the whole Symphonic sound were Power metal bands. Most of the metal bands with female singers just took what the Power Metal bands did and added more to it. Gothic Metal was never part of Symphonic metal.
