Here is a man who opens one of his books with the statement- "I have never paid a bill, I have people who do that for me....".Make of it what you will
this is a very great person.hhe has produced seun kuti album. what a magnanimous thing to do. we commend you and pay our respects to you o great chief.
Eno is irreplacable, quite frankly. His work extends beyond dicking about with Bono and co....not that he 'dicked' as such. His production with Talking Heads, Devo and Michael Brook is unrivalled.
I never liked U2 before "No Line...." (i know it wasn't Eno's first outing with them), love the album!! And never liked Coldplay before "Viva La Vida". Love Bowie's Berlin Trilogy esp. "Low".
Have about 10 Eno albums inc. the Ambient albums and "My Life In The Bush With Ghosts" with Byrne.
Still have to get "No Pussyfooting" with Fripp, not on iTunes [Australia] aaargh!!!
I think Brian Eno succeeded in mixing Intellect and Passion in a lot of 'songs'. I also like the "my life in the bush of ghosts" album with David Byrne. And the albums he produced for talking heads were their best, IMO.
His music is somthing that I would allways hear in tv shows but never knew who it was done by. EG: his song an ending plauged me since I was about 8. It was such a great song. But I never knew who it was done by.
Im 15 now it took me 7 years to find out his name and more of his music. Worth the wait? Definitely
You can tell someone is really worth the attention when they take the almost meaningless questions from an interview and give genuinely interesting answers.
Im heartened that so many others feel the same as i do about eno. I was so fortunate to see him talk in Sydney a couple of weeks ago and then perform last Sunday at the Luminous festival. The talk was amazing. He really is a humble genius who emits inspiration. Ive been a huge fan for 30 years and still find a secure little hidey hole in my conscience when i hear some of his work.
His quote at the talk that i cant get out of my head was; 'Art is everything that we don't HAVE to do"
The man is simply a genius and I have held him in the utmost regard for most of my adult life from Roxy Music, Bowie, Talking Heads and Fripp among others. Even the bands that had no direct association with him I adore such as Peter Gabriel and King Crimson who obviously have been influenced by him. I adore him for certain but alas he is a relic from a bygone era of accomplished artists. Todays youth have no idea what they have missed.
What's amusing watching this video is to pan the audience and realize that none I see were even born likely when Eno accomplished his body of work. Silly really ....
I'm 29 and I discovered Eno when I was 24. In this age, "today" is somewhat irrelevant. There are no significant cultural/artistic movements anymore, only commodity marketing. Fortunately, the internet is on and keeping yourself informed keeps the past alive and paves a bit of hope for the future.
And youth 40 years ago wasn't the same way? Youth 20 years ago? They didn't care about stupid trends?
Of course kids care about shit that doesn't matter. They're kids, for christ's sake. Most people are the same way. Don't expect people to buy into what YOU deem 'art'. In the end, they're just all distractions to keep us from thinking about how we just turn and turn and turn on this giant rock until we're dead. But then what do I know. I'm young and therefore superficial, shallow and stupid.
In that case I hope you stay superficial, shallow and stupid for as long as you may turn on this giant rock so you can keep writing amusing comments like this lol.
Mr. Eno appears very willing to accommodate the limitations of Holland and his program here. Something of a departure from his previous attitude regarding television appearances.
@Project: I agree Katy Perry=Satan, but you're so laughably ignorant. ENO is no elitist. He tries to popularize the sounds & ideas that move him. & He once said he's not a musician: "there was such an implicit and tacit belief that virtuosity was the sine qua non of music and there was no other way of approaching it. And that seemed to be so transparently false... I thought the best way to say that was to say, LOOK, I'M A NONMUSICIAN. IF YOU LIKE WHAT I DO, IT STANDS IN DEFIANCE TO THAT."
I can't believe that Holland when mentioning artists Eno has produced names James instead of let's say Talking Heads or Bowie. James, really Jools, James?
this man is a living piece of gold. mastermind, so determined and logical, but at the same time such an aesthetist and artistic. interesting he sees paintings and thinks of the music; i do that too just the other way round - all my paintings are influenced by one song or another!
