  • @WestHam3Millwall1 - Music is a form of art

  • Comment removed

  • Great philosophy.

  • he puts into words the things you have at the back of your mind and know are true, but could never verbalise.

  • Cool.. such simple ideas too.

  • Whoever disliked this video deserves to die an Ambient death.

  • I don't like Jools Holland, I think hes rubbish at interviewing.

  • @MrDataCode Nobody cares what you think.

  • Brian Eno is an urbane intelligent artistic genius. Unfortunately, Jools Holland is an annoying little twat

  • Here is a man who opens one of his books with the statement- "I have never paid a bill, I have people who do that for me....".Make of it what you will

  • im surprised u2's albums arent better since eno produced them.

  • @OCIRELCNU Hard as it is to believe, Eno's still only human, and unfortunately Bono will always be Bono.

  • Eno is awesome, but Jools is annoying as hell!

  • this is a very great person.hhe has produced seun kuti album. what a magnanimous thing to do. we commend you and pay our respects to you o great chief.

  • 2:17 I love his smile! I think he is one of the hottest old men in the world! Mr.Eno is so cute!

  • Eno is irreplacable, quite frankly. His work extends beyond dicking about with Bono and co....not that he 'dicked' as such. His production with Talking Heads, Devo and Michael Brook is unrivalled.

  • Clever but dull man

  • Jules - shut yer fkin mouth , you are in the presence of one of the best. YOU are a wanker

  • Jules - you are a wanker

  • brian eno is a very special man lol that sounds wierd but really

  • Eno at 30 was the best in music as a producer. The apex was UFire by U2,after that bollocks. very dangerous and edgy muzak/music.

  • the guy behind eno is having a beer, thats a show id like to be on

  • wohay i'm metting him on tuesday!

  • this is exactly what i want to say to people who love Jay-Z.

  • ABSOLUTE MUSIC GOD

    LISTEN TO 1/1

    FROM MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS

IF YOU ARE NOT MOVED BY THAT YOU ARE NOT LIVING

  • that bird in red really digs him....

  • Many of his observations are really quite profound.

  • a brilliant composer. true genious

  • His music I like. The pontification, I , and the rest of the world for that matter, could do without quite nicely.

  • @fscarp ~He hates it as well. Leave him the fuck alone, and you get no "pontification".

  • @JuanOmegaIota You're kidding, right?

  • i always like brian in roxy music. his insight is inspirig,

  • What a shmuck. All of the things he says are fake, but he thinks they're important.

  • I think if there is a god, then she must worship Eno - like I do.

  • What ever happened to the oblique strategies cards as an iPhone app? It seems to have disapeared.

  • I never liked U2 before "No Line...." (i know it wasn't Eno's first outing with them), love the album!! And never liked Coldplay before "Viva La Vida". Love Bowie's Berlin Trilogy esp. "Low".

Have about 10 Eno albums inc. the Ambient albums and "My Life In The Bush With Ghosts" with Byrne.

Still have to get "No Pussyfooting" with Fripp, not on iTunes [Australia] aaargh!!!

So yeah Eno is the man!

  • "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" actually :)

  • i can see the borders of your t.v....

    and im nont brian eno¡¡¡

    ha ha ha ha

  • Brian Enos song "An Ending" isnt music its art!

  • I thought music was a FORM of art. No?

  • Yeah it is.......fair point

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 Where is that from??? thanks.

  • @pandespinas What do you mean

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 music is art

  • @WestHam3Millwall1TOTALLY!

  • @WestHam3Millwall1

for your info, Music is Art

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 Music is art .. so ... :P

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 shutup you pretentious idiot it's music

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 Eno's whole back catalogue is art!

  • @WestHam3Millwall1 :D :D faggot

  • I'm glad I was brought up on Eno amongst other inspirational memory mortifying musicians .

  • @glassfranger Same here. I think I'd be a completely different person without him.

  • Brian Eno is a genius.

  • absolutely

  • I think Brian Eno succeeded in mixing Intellect and Passion in a lot of 'songs'. I also like the "my life in the bush of ghosts" album with David Byrne. And the albums he produced for talking heads were their best, IMO.

  • brian is music maker form the heart

  • Is the music playing in the background an Eno work? If so, could anyone be so kind as to tell me what it is?

  • yeah it is

    its from the album

"Drawn From Life" with J. Peter Schwalm

cant rember the name of the track though..

  • Someone else said it was ''Bloom''.

  • His music is somthing that I would allways hear in tv shows but never knew who it was done by. EG: his song an ending plauged me since I was about 8. It was such a great song. But I never knew who it was done by.

Im 15 now it took me 7 years to find out his name and more of his music. Worth the wait? Definitely

  • i am from holland and brian eno is cool he was in the band roxy music

  • You can tell someone is really worth the attention when they take the almost meaningless questions from an interview and give genuinely interesting answers.

  • Im heartened that so many others feel the same as i do about eno. I was so fortunate to see him talk in Sydney a couple of weeks ago and then perform last Sunday at the Luminous festival. The talk was amazing. He really is a humble genius who emits inspiration. Ive been a huge fan for 30 years and still find a secure little hidey hole in my conscience when i hear some of his work.

His quote at the talk that i cant get out of my head was; 'Art is everything that we don't HAVE to do"

  • What an intelligent and insightful mind this man has, watch and learn, it's a shame people only live such a short time.

  • He seems so kind and warm hearted and humble! How refreshing!

  • What a brilliant man!

  • People watch an Eno interview and are ANNOYED that they play Eno's music in the background?

  • HA HA ...exactly. i only realised it was playing halfway through. Something that Brian himself would perhaps be happy to hear.

  • The man is simply a genius and I have held him in the utmost regard for most of my adult life from Roxy Music, Bowie, Talking Heads and Fripp among others. Even the bands that had no direct association with him I adore such as Peter Gabriel and King Crimson who obviously have been influenced by him. I adore him for certain but alas he is a relic from a bygone era of accomplished artists. Todays youth have no idea what they have missed.

  • What's amusing watching this video is to pan the audience and realize that none I see were even born likely when Eno accomplished his body of work. Silly really ....

  • Silly you even thought that! :P And it's wrong; the 3 guys at the table behind them look plenty old.

  • I'm 29 and I discovered Eno when I was 24. In this age, "today" is somewhat irrelevant. There are no significant cultural/artistic movements anymore, only commodity marketing. Fortunately, the internet is on and keeping yourself informed keeps the past alive and paves a bit of hope for the future.

  • Very fine comment.

  • "Todays youth have no idea what they have missed. "

Because it's not like we have the internet or anything, right?

  • Because of most of todays youth are obsessed with trends and celebrities and things that never truly mattered and never were art.

  • And youth 40 years ago wasn't the same way? Youth 20 years ago? They didn't care about stupid trends?

Of course kids care about shit that doesn't matter. They're kids, for christ's sake. Most people are the same way. Don't expect people to buy into what YOU deem 'art'. In the end, they're just all distractions to keep us from thinking about how we just turn and turn and turn on this giant rock until we're dead. But then what do I know. I'm young and therefore superficial, shallow and stupid.

  • In that case I hope you stay superficial, shallow and stupid for as long as you may turn on this giant rock so you can keep writing amusing comments like this lol.

  • Aye aye :|

anyway sorry to derail, I like Brian Eno tons. :>

  • Yeah I found the background music really annoying and distracting, no need for the melodrama

  • a man who always keeps me in awe. Could do without the stupid background music going on...

  • what a man! easily could set a new religion!

  • smart man i say. it s a pitty though he will not go on tour with roxy music.

  • I have oblique strategies on my ipod...it's a download for free.

    pretty handy!

  • what song is playing in the background

    i imagine its eno

  • it sounds like "bloom" from drawn from life...

  • Mr. Eno appears very willing to accommodate the limitations of Holland and his program here. Something of a departure from his previous attitude regarding television appearances.

  • holland's pathetically glad-a ghastly sample of just how dire that bbc poop-pile of a show gets.

  • This Man Is what you call a MUSICIAN not Kanye West, Beyonce Knowles, Pink, Katy Perry or other the other Imposter's to the Art of Music.

    POP Is just Corporate Music.

  • Pop is a style of composition.

  • @Project: I agree Katy Perry=Satan, but you're so laughably ignorant. ENO is no elitist. He tries to popularize the sounds & ideas that move him. & He once said he's not a musician: "there was such an implicit and tacit belief that virtuosity was the sine qua non of music and there was no other way of approaching it. And that seemed to be so transparently false... I thought the best way to say that was to say, LOOK, I'M A NONMUSICIAN. IF YOU LIKE WHAT I DO, IT STANDS IN DEFIANCE TO THAT."

  • Imagine this - Brian Eno + Radiohead

  • Oooooooooh!

  • redundant

  • ive thought that so many times

nigel and eno workin with radiohead

    fuck

  • great interview but what is that humming noise?

  • Eno is well known for his bowel problem.

  • This is Brian Eno who's produced Coldplay, er Carley Simon...

  • I can't believe that Holland when mentioning artists Eno has produced names James instead of let's say Talking Heads or Bowie. James, really Jools, James?

  • wah wah was quite experi MENTAL

  • if you have heard the album by james and eno you would beg to differ...

  • legend

  • this man is a living piece of gold. mastermind, so determined and logical, but at the same time such an aesthetist and artistic. interesting he sees paintings and thinks of the music; i do that too just the other way round - all my paintings are influenced by one song or another!

  • Nice to see Ron Sexsmith looking a bit bored behind Jools' shoulder there.

  • Eno rules!
