  • EEWW UR VID SUCKS

  • Boobs at the beginning ! 0:00 BOOOOOOOOBS

  • how do I get the deeppaint3d program??? and is it possible to do that in photoshop cs2?

  • What is the name of the Song ?

  • I don't think I'll ever learn how to do this properly. It's so complicated. xD

Referring to what's written in your description, it's scary to know that you have to hire a lawyer to get the person who copied your skin in trouble. I figured a SL staff could cancel the theft's account and bill her for the money she costed you or something. x.x Scary

  • I need to know how to get ahold of you in second life?? Our company would possibly like to hire you to recreate a real life fashion designers look to wear on her avatar when she comes in game.... who do I contact in world? Let me know or if there is an email address. thank you

  • @par4u2c My inworld display name is 'Naergi' too, so you should find me by typing that into search :-)

  • Will this actually look like you when you put it in world though?

I mean after you adjust the shape, would it be possible to make it highly resemble you after all the changes you've made to it.

  • @MiJaEllis Well, it would look like "me" if the reference photos I used would actually be of "me (which isn't the case; these are reference photos by 3d.sk, as described in the notes) *and* if I would have at least vaguely adjusted the shape and features to look like 'me' (which is actually possible in Blender).

However this here was just a demonstration as to how a character can be photosourced to the SL avatar; so no inworld likeliness intended from the start ;-)

  • Where do you get your photo references?

  • @DanmEveryNameIsTaken Uhmmm - that's described in the video description above. You just need to click the "Show more" link beneath the "- Note: What you see here actually took about four hours" part ;-)

  • Wow...this is pretty intense work. Excellent video.

  • what's the name of your store so i can visit?

  • @elisaisabel Did you try searching for my Youtube name in SL? That's how to find me. And my stores are in my profile picks :-)

  • thanks alot! i didnt know i have this option in the Elements tab.My avatar mesh is already smoothed ,my only problem was "the avatar pose".Thanks again !

  • As long as i dont have Poser, how can i pose my sl avatar mesh so i can see the texture between legs better?

  • @ElissaLetov Well, three possibilities.

First, you could use Blender. There's one version that has a poseable avatar. In that step, you can also smooth the facets and change the layout of arms / feet so DP3D can render them better.

Second, you could use the 'invert normals' faces operation in DeepPaint. That would give the possibility to 'flip' the avatar so you can see it from the inside.

Last not least, you could always get an OLD version of Poser, they're pretty cheap on Ebay ;-)

  • @ElissaLetov Then again, if you have already paid the ~US-$600 for DP3D, I guess Blender is the best possibility of the three. After all, all the other tools don't offer the smoothing of the faces. Plus, you can use it to bake shading textures and use those as overlays for what you have photosourced :-)

  • The most interesting part was the naked girl at the beginning. 0:00:05

  • Where do you get these high quality photos to source?

  • @GirLInSecondLife I've written in the notes of the video where to get the photos - at 3d.sk, if you're a subscriber, that is ;-)

  • @naergi Thanks. I saw that later but still didn't really know what it is so it didn't register. Is that the site that has a lot of photos you can use how you want to, but it costs a lot to join there? Can you use them in any application or really limited?

  • @GirLInSecondLife I don't see their fees as being 'a lot to join there' - they give you access to THOUSANDS of hi-rez photos to texture from; and they add more photos every day.

Also, you can use these photos for texturing even after your subscription runs out; so I don't see it as being 'limited' in any way - except of course that you can't sell these photos, of course, which, on the other hand, would be useless.

That having said, please look at their FAQ ;-)

  • @naergi I don't know how much it cost so I don't know if it cost a lot to join. By limited I meant licensing, for instance to use in more than one virtual world. No I wouldn't see any use in selling the photos. But I want to create not rip off or resell.

  • @GirLInSecondLife Also some of the contributors to 3d.sk also put up singular packs on Rendeosity - that's where I've gotten some from in the past.

Fairly reasonable if you don't feel you'll be using the 3d.sk service enough to warrent a membership.

  • @GirLInSecondLife Also some of the contributors to 3d.sk also put up singular packs on Rendeosity - that's where I've gotten some from in the past. (Specifically I've bought packs from Levius on Renderosity... :) )

Fairly reasonable if you don't feel you'll be using the 3d.sk service enough to warrent a membership.

  • Where can I find the Second Life mesh mapped?

  • @saragnify That's been said in the replies to the comments of this video already. I basically use the 'Poser' version of the SL avatar, which is available on the SL website. I then pose that avatar in Poser, and export it as an *.obj. Ocassionally, I do some remapping in Blender before importing it to DeepPaint3D. But that's pretty much it. In case you mean the already applied templates on the character - I do that in DP3D before starting to photosource ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • hmm.... can you use this program for other body parts too??

  • @sakeena17

Of course! Any kind of mesh that is available in *.obj format can be textured. It doesn't even matter if it's a humanoid avatar.

If you look through my videos you'll also find one in which I'm texturing the foot of a Poser character.

I've just left it at texturing the SL avatar's head for this video since that already took four hours, and it's pretty stressful to texture four hours without taking a break since the camera is rolling ;-)

  • Haha, now I've gotten this product but I'm clueless on where to even start. I got the 3D model for SL Avatars previously to use in Blender, ZBrush blah blah, but how is it I start the process of dragging/editing in the images I've bought from 3D.SK and such? That's where my little mind gets stuck. :c

    ~Armonde

  • @armondesl

Well you just open the images in DeepPaint (I usually drag them into the software from my file explorer), then copy / paste the parts I want to use on the projected avatar mesh.

  • @naergi The problem is, I don't believe my avatar mesh files I've been using are sufficient and also that, I'm not so sure about the 'materials' in Deep Paint 3D either, what would be nice is if you could posisbly lead me to a tutorial on how to do this, or make one. ;o

    ~Armonde

  • HOW DID U GET IT TWO WORK AND WAER CAN U GET PLUG IN ANY HELP BE COOL

  • @marslumograph999

I don't quite understand your question. What do you mean by "get it to (to. not 'two'!) work and wear (not 'waer'!)"? Do you have any problems uploading the finished textures to SL?

Also, what do you mean by 'Plug In'? DeepPaint3D is a stand-alone software by RightHemisphere; no need for a Plug-In.

Also please note that CAPITAL LETTERS mean SHOUTING on the internet. So unless you intend to SHOUT at me, which I don't like, please only use caps where appropriate. Thank you!

  • lol your a fucking pro

  • @MissNoComment1 i agre

  • I tried to make skin before, and it worked out pretty well; I'm not saying I've tried your method (or anyone elses) but I downloaded the skin templates, and whenever I send it to my avatar and put it on, there are long gray block "Eyelashes". I really shouldn't asked this before watching the video, but I wonder if you know of this, and how to fix it. I practically killed 50L trying to figure it out, and nothing I do works.

  • can I have a copy of the skin?

  • @Nightmare3922

The skin is available at my inworld main store, you can buy it there ;-)

  • this is really creepy, with the music and all.

  • Interested in doing this for me? I teach New Media at a University and I wish my Avitar to actually look like me.....

  • @bobdowd Sure, if you can provide hi-res photos of yourself? But this won't be very cheap, to say the least, if you want 'your' skin exclusively for yourself. Just saying ;-)

  • 2:44 why are you naked ... ? && You're showing the world your vagina && boobs; that's disturbing.

  • @sprinklescontests

Uhmmm... did you understand what this video is about? It's about texturing. Not about nudity or boobs or something.

Besides, it's not 'my' vagina & boobs. It's the texturing result of the photos of the model from 3d.sk which I've used to texture this skin.

  • @naergi Where do you get the 3D mesh for Paint3D? Is the mesh similar to the way templates work, as far as you download them, put them into Paint 3D? Does the mesh match the one in second life?

  • @ttt279 If you had ever googled 'Second Life avatar mesh' you'd already have it - the result for the SL Wiki page where you can download them is actually the first page that is being returned ;-)

I usually pose that mesh in Poser and then do some cleanup on the mesh in Blender before using it in DP3D but yes, this is the precise SL avatar mesh!

  • @naergi Thanks! got the mesh into Paint3D..yay... sorry to be greedy but it would be really awesome if you could show much slower instructions on how to get the flat finished skin template, for instance just the face, onto the mesh in Paint3D, add some audio "click this, click that". I know you show it on here but its hard to tell what tools/buttons you are using, for those of us who are new to Paint3D it would make life easier..please have pity :-)

  • @ttt279 Well, it DOES take a while to learn DeepPaint. There is no 'click this, do that', unless you want your skin to look precisely like mine. The process is different for every skin.

It took me about two to three years (!) to be as skilled in DeepPaint3D as I am today, if that comforts you. Don't give up after a few months. You just need to practice, try and learn ;-)

  • @naergi well actually I just meant how to select, and copy from flat template and paste onto the 3d mesh...

  • @ttt279 Use the selection tool on the photo that you'd like to photosource from (which is what I guess you mean by 'flat template'?), [STRG]+[C]; then switch to the window with the avatar, go into projection mode, then [STRG]+[V].

That's probably the SIMPLEST thing and just the same as working with two pictures in Photoshop.

  • @naergi Dang I hate getting started on new software...so frustrating...ok I selected a section on the photo and clicked copy. I then moved to the 3d mesh screen, clicked at the top of the screen "toggle projection mode", then paste and the selected image appears on the 3d mesh. I can move it around and stretch it etc..I get it where I want it..how do I drop it there...release it... so I can select another selection to copy and paste? Thanks

  • @ttt279 Does your screen look the same as mine in the video, with the right tab and such? If so, just *look at your screen* after dropping and being able to move around, particularly the upper right side, and *read* what's written there ;-)

Also, it sounds as if you're not in projection mode if your cropped image 'appears on the mesh', it should be "hovering" over it. Please turn on the projection mode.

Oh and read the manual that comes with DP ;-)

  • @naergi didnt see anything on "projection mode" in the help...I did read the upper right..I saw drop..but it dosent drop....it just disappears..

  • @ttt279 That's funny. In your video I could see no less than *six* topics in the software help that start with 'projection'. Did you read all of them?

Then again the projection paint *button* is definitely pressed on your screen.

About the disappearing - I have a theory. How did you set up the materials on your mesh? It seems to me that there are no materials, or maybe that the materials have no channels assigned.

Plus I'm wondering why you select part of the mesh before dropping the pic?

  • @naergi Well 1st off when you make specific reference to "projection mode" your final answer just being.."turn on projection mode" is like me getting in a car with someone who has never been in a car.."ok turn on the key and press the gas"..its like okkk where and what are those...therefore, I expect to see in the help, specifically the words: "projection mode" since you didn't give any details

  • @ttt279 To follow your analogy, if someone tells ME to 'turn the key...' then I look for everything having to do with 'key' if I don't know what a 'car' is, and read as much about it as I can find.

It's got nothing to do with not wanting to help, but you have to learn how to research and, in particular, learn about *basic* computer things, such as copy/paste/etc. - after you learned that, ask me about DP3D-specific problems.

  • @ttt279 The way I see you operating in DP3D in your video clip I have to ask myself how long you've been working with image editing software in general? I don't mean something like 'MS Paint' but, like, Gimp, Photoshop or whatever rows your boat?

I don't mean to be rude but you seem to lack very simple skills (copy/paste etc.). That's not such a brilliant start with DP, to say the least ;-)

  • @naergi of course I can see topics dealing with the word projection but I wouldnt be asking the simple question of how to copy and paste if i had read something. Yes, I just got this software so it should be obvious I dont know how to use it so Im not sure what your point is belittling my abilities, i thought the point of your video was to help others getting started, or maybe it is to show off your skills??

  • @ttt279 I guess you've seen and read all the comments on this video. One from me, five months old, already says to 'read the manual' - with that I mean the *entire* manual - before starting. It's something *I* always do when I buy new software *before* even installing it; maybe that's something to consider too.

  • @naergi I just asked a simple question, how to copy and paste, evidently with your high n mighty self you cant give me a simple answer. I would think that someone of your ability and 3 year use would have a few easy to follow steps to copy and paste, not theories and answering questions with more questions, esp when I sent you a video showing you what Im doing..thanks anyway..next time someone who has never been in a car wants me to help them learn to drive Ill tell them to go read the manual..

  • @ttt279 Well it's pretty obvious that you don't just not know DeepPaint, but computer shortcuts in general (copy/paste/cut shortcuts are one of the very first things people learn about computers). Those first, simple things are considered 'basic knowledge' when dealing with computers; they have nothing to do with 'helping you with a few problems in DeepPaint' or something like that.

It's like learning how to open a car door before wanting to get into one, to follow your analogy.

  • @sprinklescontests

your commenting on the wrong video. srsly. asking why people pose for reference.

how else do you think peeople learn the shapes, textures of a body.

  • @sprinklescontests Where do you get the 3D mesh for Paint3D? Is the mesh similar to the way templates work, as far as you download them, put them into Paint 3D? Does the mesh match the one in second life?

  • ...Frankenstein -.-

  • Perfect!

  • this was actually creepy to watch

  • Where can a person find 3D model photos like this? Although I would rather hand draw my skins, this seems a better way for me to begin with. Unless one could print out the mesh and trace on top of it by hand, to hand draw skins/clothes. I know it is not easy. But I just cannot find out how. I do not do well with print tutorials. I do best with hands on (personal tutoring) or video tutorials.

  • @SuperStarsNStripes The reference photos are available at 3d.sk and DeepPaint3D is by RightHemisphere and (currently) just sold in the 'RH Entertainment' package, which is US-$ 595. Of course you can also paint on the mesh instead of using reference photos.

  • I'd really like to make skins for Second Life. I wish I could find a great tutorial. Is DeepPaint expensive? I already paid for PS and haven't figured out how to use it to make skins yet. :(

  • Awesome!

  • where can i get that template from?please

  • @eli0145 secondlife(dot)com/community/templates.php

  • Wow nice job

  • Comment removed

  • @njjordan84 Is that some sort of joke question? Did you read the title of this video? *lol*

  • Comment removed

  • @njjordan84 FAIL

  • Hi, I was wondering how you add pictures on this file. and if there is a way for add my templates on it and how.. I can not find how to add pics on this 3d file, it keeps telling me all kinds of things as no channels etc.

  • @evelylane That's described pretty well in the manual which comes with the software - you just have to read it ;-)

  • Brilliant~!

I like interface videos. A LOT!

  • If nothing else, seeing this is extremely educational to people for understanding why no two (original) skins will look exactly alike, even if they started from the exact same photos to start.

The same, of course, goes for anything in SL, even things like aircraft or boats or whathaveyou. The models are probably going to end up looking similar, but the texturing -- there's a fine art there that can't be replicated exactly.

  • @gtdreamsmith Yes, that was sort of the point I was trying to make.

If you're interested, look at my Flickr photostream (where I have the same name as here). I've posted some pictures there of that other person's resource pack and mine. You'll see how I had to laugh when she wrote on *her* Flickr that all those pixel by pixel 'similarities' are just the result of 'her using the very same photo references', particularly since she actually *bought* my resource pack.

  • @naergi Content thieves suck.

  • WOWSERS!

  • Amazing.
