  • FUCKING HATERS, DUDE YOU NAILED IT CONGRATULATIONS (:

  • RIP man, one of the best bass players in the world.

  • Nice work on making it your own while still staying faithful to the original. :)

  • plastic eminem lmao

  • You play awesome. I'm trying really hard to get the Harris galloping. Do not pay attention to what you say about the clothes. Iron Maiden is for the spirit, not for the clothes.

  • Man you're so good at dancing! Ehh, I mean, playing the bass! Crazyass bass line in this song, can't get enough of it. Flawless cover!

  • Excellent playing but that jumping is really annoying. No offence. Up the Irons anyway

  • Gooood man !!

    Rulesssssss

    Up the iRON'S FROM BRAZIL

  • Nice man, I liked it a lot :D

  • jaja mira bart, este es un loquito! jajajaja

    TRMEENDA VERSION; ♥

  • You are similiar to Seth, from Supercool.

  • best "strange in a strange land" dance ever =p akwehkawheakuweh

  • My favourite bass in the world. Pretty expensive ones these days. But that sound is worth every penny. Plus it looks awesome. Do prefer it in blue though :P

  • this song is all about bass and drums

  • YES, YOU ARE NOT STEVE HARRIS

    But you´re good....

    just stop this dance hashsahsah

  • @lelonariz - He died, so don't expect a response from him.

  • RIP

  • INCREDIBLE DUDE !!! YOU ROCK !!!

    5 STARS !!! KEEP ROCKIN'

  • I love your expression during the solo lol but great job

  • hahaha. i love his dancing in this vid lol but good job dude. i wish i could play that good

  • Really great work on this one!

Could you tell me what scale those awesome fills of yours are in?

.. And that's a freakin nice rick you've got there!

  • Iron Maiden rules!

    Rickenbaker rules!

    Nice vid man! 5 stars!

  • up the irons man keep playing!!!

  • He's playing with Cliff Burton and John Entwistle now unfortunately :( R.I.P Rob

  • Great job. You really do get into it, which makes this vid watchable, as opposed to the majority of bass videos.

That said...is it really triplets? I'm thinking it's just the classic Metal gallop. Which is an 8th note followed by two 16ths, and repeat over and over.

  • 2:19, beautiful, i know play entire song in my bass, but i recognize you do a great job

  • Great man ! You Rock ! Excelent 5*****

  • Great playing

  • Lol from 4:30 - 4:40 hahaha! Great job! and cool sound!

  • this album to me was proof that Adrian Smith is a very good writer, this song and Wasted Years, are my favourite from the album, awesome cover!

  • Nice swing

  • It would be really strange to see Steve Harris playing on a Rick bass. Nearly all bass lines of Iron Maiden songs are played on a P Bass.

  • that would be fucking awesome tho if he did but still how he plays on his fender P is brilliant but the rick would give it even more of an evil sound

  • Dude, listen to Deja Vu from this album. Great song. And great playing!

  • I play guitar and accident ally clicked this and thought it was really cool.

  • groovy man

  • One of my Favorite Adrian Smith Solos. Listening to the bass part during the first half of the solo is always relaxing.

  • Good as all of em. I still think your megadeth cover of "My Last Words" was SIIIIIIIIIICK

  • YOU ARE NOT STEVE HARRIS, MAN!

  • And thank you for playing "stating the obvious"

  • LOOOOOOL nice job man you rock¡¡¡

  • @mosespapodrace What was the point of that comment? i dont think hes trying to be, hes just enjoying making the video

  • take off the jersey and hat and ill give u 5 stars!

  • fuckk you damn this guy is great even with that shit.

5 starrs and fav man u fucking rock!!

  • Fucking Good Job Dude! Impressive!

  • that's some sick bass! is that a whammy?

  • nice

  • yo mate, you got tabs to this?

  • Nope....I do not use tabs....can't really read them, truth be told.

  • ah okay... tbh i don't like reading tabs too.

  • great bass tone ....

  • great but... you look like raper and you play iron maiden.. :D ?

  • Lol...I hope I don't look like a raper!

  • wtf is happened i dont see your cat in your video :) ! Keep rockin

  • look at that ricky !!!

love it. i used to have a black one...

  • Ricks are the best!

  • please do Deja Vu next!

  • did you put out, for whom the bell tolls by metallica?? if u didnt you should, cause it will be awsome

  • dude your freakin awsome great playing

  • One of my favorite songs and you did great here. Keep it up, dude!! :)

  • Great sound..love that pounding bass sound!

  • brillant!!

you are an awesome excellent bass player!

i love your video , so powerful.

    5 stars

  • you rock!

  • great playing man. I like that Rick.

  • Brilliant! LRRG lol! You are the Happy Gilmore of Bass!

  • how do you play in the part of the 1:07 can you tab just that part, because i cant realize the notes and all the tabs i find are wrong.

  • Holy shit. This guy rocks HARD. Really good job mate. Also good job at " to tame to a land"

  • Thank you very much. As you may be able to tell, Maiden is one of my favorite bands.

  • burlearth...your a fucking idiot. this guy is good, better than you i am guessing or else you wouldn't be dissecting his playing. great job by the way man !

  • You've got the speed but you've got no groove, meaning Listening to a variety of your vids, I think you're missing notes and compensating with plaing more. Get some dicipline, listen to the drums and feel. Common mistakes for a novice player but not someone who has been plaing a while. You've got the ear just nail the rhythm and you'll be real good.

  • Thanks for the advice, but I honestly do not care about whether or not I have discipline. I am quite satisfied where I am and how I play. But I appreciate you taking the time to dissect my style.

  • you are crazy

  • give benjamin breeg a shot.

  • You are very good but not better than Steve, don't worry no one is better than steve

  • I don't worry....I never came here to compare myself to Steve...he is a REAL rock god, I am a living-room rock god...completely different things.

  • WOW man!! YOU ROOOOOOCK!!!!

  • could you make me very happy?please a song of Kyuss...please...i pray you!

  • great

    you got it

  • Nice work. Steve Harris has a very difficult style/feel to replicate and that's as good a cover as I've heard. It's just a shame you are currently relegated to the living room. You should be gigging!

  • It is by choice. I spent the last five years working on my Ph.D., which made for no time for bands. I will once again start gigging, but it won't be until I nail my professorial position (because then I will be finally living in one place)

  • awesomee work man

    keep practicing

  • FINALLY! he stands up lol.

  • i wish i had a rick

  • why? you're getting a mockingbird

  • you not just play ,you feel the music..

    respect nice job

    greetings from germany

  • Thank you very much, and greetings in return.

  • My favourite song from that album. Fucking good job dude

  • you have the strings wrong, they are on the pickup

  • I have no idea what this comment means.

  • Great!!!

  • wow!!! your awsome!!!

  • really nice men

  • Love the ricky's tone. Great version of a great song, too! :-)

  • I find it interesting that you preferred Powerslave to SIT. SIT is probably my favorite Maiden album, and Powerslave seems very guitar-heavy and doesn't capture my attention or imagination as much. I guess that's weird coming from a guitar player...Also, I was born in '87 so I heard SIT before Powerslave. Great job as always, though.

  • No problem. Difference in taste is what makes each musician unique.

  • Hmm... I'd like to know how you play on the bridge pickup without screwing up. I got a Rick off eBay (Christmas present), and I got to test it. Every time I play on the bridge pickup, my finger somehow goes into the hole there... : (

Is it just a matter of practice and getting used to it?

  • Yes...anotehr way you can prevent your finger from going into the hole is to fill the hole with a leather pad as I did. That way if it goes in, it doesn't go far. After a while, it no longer is a concern.

  • Aha, nifty. Now all I have to do is wait 'till Christmas, although I sneak a little Ricky playing in. :)

  • holy shit you're awesome man. I can tell that you love it and play with passion

  • First of all - Hi! :D

I am a teenager from Denmark, and U must say you have really inspired me to start playing bass. Even if I play different genres than you do, I really admire your skill and passion! Keep the videoes commin', always love to get the "Subscription Update" from youtube!

    Lupza

  • Well thanks, and hello from the U.S. Love your country and may visit it someday (as a scientist, not as a musician). I appreciate everyone that takes the time to write a line, so do not be a stranger. Rock on! \m/ \m/

  • HI zodiakironfist.

good video! the bass have a good sound!

yes is true, in the guitar solo makes the whole song come alive.

have a great week! and take cara with blisters! ;)

    -Ale-

  • Another excellent job mon. I scooped a whole set of high-end home theatre speakers (250W powered sub too)and I've got you running through my old Sony DE 325, you gotta hear it, your tone is ballsy/growly/wicked. Truth is, I never owned the album 'Somewhere In Time'. Oh, and I picked this bit of info up on Wiki; "Stranger in a Strange Land" is one of only two Iron Maiden songs to fade out, the other being "The Prophecy" from Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. 5'er and faved.

  • I totally agree - wasn't a fan of this album when it came out. Was too much into thrash anyway. But in retrospect it's a pretty good disc. Your Ric's growl plays well here too.

  • awesome dude.... as always

  • It used to be that hollowbodied and acoustic basses were a curiosity and really not that available. Now it seems that the Rick has that distinction. Strange times nowadays for a bass geezer like me. As always, good to see you Nate, and also an honor to make it to your faves.

  • dude sweet cover

youve inspired me to try to learn some maiden songs, what are some songs you recommend for someone just beginning to learn maiden?

  • Flight of Icarus, off of the Piece of Mind album, and this one is a good one, too. Can I Play With Madness is not too bad, but the timing is a little tough. Running Free of fo the first album is a great one, too. Good luck, rob!

  • great again, osu beat us though so not a big fan

  • Nice job. I to, felt the same way about Somewhere in Time upon its release in....88, I wanna say? But Stranger and Wasted Years have always rocked, IMHO. Do you own a Fender Precision? If not, you might want one for all the Maiden. Rock on dude!

  • No...no Fender. They do not feel appropriate in my hands...strings too wide apart (as do most basses). I was on this Rickenbacker exclusively for 19 years, so my fingers have gotten used to the thin neck, etc. I have one other bass...the Schecter, but it is used for slap-style, and its neck is similar to the Rick.

  • Never heard this song before but i like it now!

  • Cool...mission accomplished!

    \m/ \m/

    Up the Irons!

  • Up the Irons! Man, everytime you do an Iron Maiden song I like it even more. There's someting about you playing them that make them cooler than they were before. Keep Rockin man. 5/5

  • \m/ \m/

If you could see Steve Harris play these tunes, he'd put me to shame. But I seriously appreciate that you like my noodly antics, Kyle. You have the finest of tastes when it comes to cheezy living room bass antics.

  • Sick as always Mr. Zod. I don't believe I have ever seen you have such musigasm on your videos before. some of those runs were absolutely killer. once again....5 stars

  • Musigasms are usually what I am trying to hold back most of the time for youtube videos. Too much moving around for anyone to see what I am doing. However, if the tune has a particularly emotional part, I cannot hold back or I'll mess up the dynamics. See also: my T&P combo 311 video for another moment of spontaneous spazzery that might make you laugh. And thanks a million for coming by...you are a nice feller!

  • I just noticed... dude, you hit 60 videos with this one!

  • Yup...that's a bunch. I can't believe I've played that many tunes on youtube. Oh well...at least forty to go!

  • I don't think I'll ever be an Iron Maiden fan. I'm more a fan of your playing and your videos. I think they would be entertaining even if I didn't play bass! I'm glad you fixed the wardrobe malfunction on the go without ruining the take.

What team is that jersey from?

    Awesome as always, Mr. Rob!

  • Ohio State Buckeyes....my alma mater. We're getting our butts kicked by Illinois as we speak. (shrug)

  • lolololololo they lost long live illinios!

  • you make it very hard to hit the approve button

  • No, but I did use it for a Rush song and got chewed out by muliple viewers who knew I had a Rickenbacker. Since then I have been shy about using the Schecter for anything other than funk/pop/jazzy stuff and try to use the Rick for anything purely in the rock category.

  • Great cover, also about how much time do you spend listening to the song to learn it and such?

  • This one? I played this song a time or two when I was a teenager.....spent an afternoon learning a wonky not-so-right version. Over the years, I have listened to this song enough to know what it should sound like, and so I spent about 30 minutes working out the details this morning. In between I've probably played it 20 times or so. It really is hard to say when it is an old song.

  • good job as always

  • Thanks. Always appreciated, as well.

  • great job like always. gotta love those facial expressions lol.

As I stated before, Iron Maiden is growing on me thanks to you.

  • Iron Maiden was my first true metal love. I will always be a Maiden fan. The vocals are an acquired taste, but the music is the best collection of C-D-E progressions known to man.

Thanks for the kind words and rock on!!

  • I find it funny how a lot of people think that the vocals are an acquired taste. As soon as I heard Bruce shrill on the "Number of the Beast" I was headbanging. I was air-bassing as well.

  • Oh I agree....Bruce was mighty on Number of the Beast, but his operetic style has taken over more starting with the Powerslave album, whch isn;t fully my cup of tea. Ever since then, I sort of miss his throatier Beast tone. I am a Paul Dianno Maiden fan, I must admit, and often give Bruce a hard time.

  • Nice playing. You're Rick's tone is quite epic.

I can't wait for Maiden's Somewhere Back in Time tour.

  • I have never used that word to describe my tone before. Thanks for the comment and Up the Irons!
