I have always loved this song, but until 5 min. ago...have never heard this version from the Box Tops. I think it's magnificent. I love that guitar meandering around in the background so easily...and as someone else mentioned..love the bells. Those bells seem a lost art in music. Does anybody know if these are studio musicians playing on this, or is it the true Box Top lineup? And if this singer truly was a teen when recording this....he must have had a lot of miles on his soul. joel in tucson

This guy has the best voice of anyone I haver heard singing this, better than Jon Legend of Soulman.Sad hes dead and he was a teenager singing this .........Amazing.......Damn the 60s was soooo much better than the CRAP we have now.
I have only just heard about Alex's sad passing, maybe because I live in Britain and he was not so well-known here as he was in the US but I always loved his music, it reminds me of my schooldays -my friends and I thought he was quite a looker and his voice was awesome -thanks for the memories Alex -you had soul man ! Donna

Alex'a voice- a teenage kid here- was capable of so many things- so rich and powerful in this lovely song. RIP

A lovely grown-up song with a deceptively straightforward melody.
