Actually you want to leave some headroom at the top to avoid explosion due to CO2 produced in the process! I wouldn't use powdered sachet either. Just use grains which last forever.
Young thai coconuts are SO expensive around where I live. I've heard you can make apple juice (raw and organic of course!) kefir, is that true? Since I live in Washington State it would be much easier and cheaper for me to get apples/apple juice. :)
With real Kefir grains there is no need to heat up the water. Starters seem to be just a way to get money. Kefir grains last forever when taken care of properly.

just make 3 hacks, so their lines make a triangle. if you get them deep enough, the top can triangle piece can be popped off with the knife. to get the meat out, you still have to hack it down the middle and pry the coconut in two. great vids. i just started my first batch of coconut kefir
@canefan17 I don't think that they would recommend using a microwave for anything. Couldn't you used the coconut milk kefir that's at room temperature for your cereal and put the rest in the fridge.
Hey Squirreletta! NO! You reuse them and grow more! One purchase only and then YOU become the producer. You step out of the consumer role and start making your own! It takes more love though because they are alive and you have to keep feeding them, but it is far more fulfilling than dumping powder in a jar every so often. Get the grains, you wont regret it.
And yes...Ive done 100% boxed coco water and it gets a little sulfur-ish after a day or so. It eats all the sugar so just the other stuff is left. Best to add in some creamy coconut milk.
Some people have converted it, but I would just order the real live water kefir grains that are made to eat the coco sugar. The girl from Happy Healthy Balance sends them fast and inexpensively.
Also, fermenting it to 12/24/48 hours is total user preference, if you want it to taste more sour (extra lactic acid) then ferment it longer and visa versa if you like it less sour.
Hmmmm, this is not how I would make coconut kefir personally. The sachets are fine for limited batches of Kefir. But the proper way to do coconut kefir would be to use "water kefir" crystals and you can reuse them indefinetly. Also be careful when fermenting with the lid on tight. It will carbonate the drink (make it slightly fizzy), but if you've got a very active mixture the pressure can build up and blow the top off.
I have a question.. I just started a raw food diet and did alot of research on coconut. How is coconut healthy with most o f it being saturated fats...? Any help anyone LOL
I'm not sure about the types of fat in coconut. But I will say people worry too much about fats being bad for you. Fats are essential for healthy living. My sister won't touch things like Olive oil because it's not on her "diet". Any diets that restrict fats to a point where you are starving yourself of them are not good, balanced diets imho.
@charlesfuchs Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid which is anti-viral, antibacterial and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid coated viruses. It does not raise cholesterol or contribute to heart disease. It's extremely healthy for you. It's helps people to lose weight.
@rayme4raw Milk is liquid meat. It is very high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Most people on this planet are lactose intolerant. Does your advice also extend to Asians and Africans? How about the fact that is causes type 1 diabetes in children with leaky gut syndrome? Also, most cows on America have either Bovine Leukemia or AIDs or both and ingestion of these viruses is not recommended. We all knew a kid who got diabetes or leukemia in grade school didn't we?
@newgtguy Everyone's body chemistry is unique, no one diet is perfect for everyone. I spent my most of my life avoiding pasteurized milk since the age of nine because I would get a sore throat from drinking it two days in a row. My body had a reaction to pasteurized milk but I wasn't lactose intolerant. I don't have advice that is for everyone because everyone is different, but I do know after trying raw milk from a coop that I can handle raw milk just fine.
@newgtguy Continue: as for animal products, check out Real Food by nina planck. Most animal products should be avoided because the garbage that goes into the animal changes them drastically. Veganism didn't start because people cared about the animals, it started when cheap subsidized corn hit the market and was fed to animals, some people found that by eating meat & animal products that were fed an unnatural diet caused a very bad reaction with their own unique body chemistry.
Original kefir is a bit like yogurt, except it's a fermented milk drink made with kefir grains. Kefir grains - which are a combination of bacteria and yeasts - are used to ferment the milk. The drink is a staple in many countries including Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Poland.
hey, what's the brand of the hydrogen peroxide you're using, ( you can send me a private message if necessary...) Thanks!!! love

I've got question: Can you make kefir out of orange juice or some other fruit juice?
Does the coconut milk have to be RAW?
Luciek69 2 years ago
NO...the kefir will still eat the sugars and make probies...
I would order real live kefir grains from Healthy Happy Balance instead of using the powder starters though
Rawmodel 2 years ago
Can you re-use the grains or would I need to keep reordering them? Also, Have you ever tried making it with the "boxed" type of 100% coconut water?
Thanks rawmodel :)

I went on Healthy happy balanced and do I want "water kefir grains" or "milk kefir grains" ? (It being coconut "Milk" -I hesitated)
Second, does she include decent instructions for making the coconut kefir?

kefir is a fermented product like yogurt. So basically it is a great digestive aid . You can also make it with raw milk.

Milk = very very bad for you!

@newgtguy pasteurized milk is very bad for you. Use kefir in raw grass fed milk to turn it into a healthy product for the body.
