OK I have tried adjusting the truss rod but CANNOT get the string to touch the feeler gauge at the 7th fret. It's just too high. I have an American Deluxe strat. Can anyone advise me here?
@strodden By the way I have been turning a lot more than a quarter turn and nothing seems to be happening. My guitar tech has never mentioned any problems with the truss rod before so I have no reason to believe it's been damaged in any way...
John, when following this part of the tutorial, I wanted to tight the truss rod. When i did it, was kinda not wanting to go, I loose the strings, push a bit harder and it sound kinda loud when i could turn it a bit... (I turned less than 1/4 clockwise) so I preffered to stop rather than thighten more...
The guitar hasn't damaged, but I do want to tight it a bit more, what can i do?
@HendrixSpirit I wish John Carruthers worked for us, but he has his own very well established business. You could contact him from his website carruthersguitars, or try talking to a repair shop for some professional advice. Best of luck!
@tronicdude6 use a very thin guitar pic , i mean very thin like 20 thou and use the point end to slide under string and fret. if that goes in the gap and string touches it slighly give the truss rod less than a quarter of a turn. your be near enough 10 to 15 thou is fine .
@TuPadreCubano the intonation you mean. if so yes all 6 strings need to have the intonation set. if you mean truss rod adjustment i check the 1st string at 12th and 6th string at 12th get it to 10 thou.
i have had my neck fret dressed, all frets levelled, truss rod set to 0.10 and still cant get any lower than 2 mm on 17th fret. the nut is perfect which gives me 0.18 clearance 45 thou on first fret across all strings. but i have tried and tried to get it to factory spec ie 1.6 mm height and cant. its a 2006 usa strat maple neck with 9-42 ernie ball slinkys.
@Eldererr Actually no...a credit card is about double the gap required..just buy the feeler gauge its not even 10$ at most hardware stores...just don't touch your guitar too much after using it...as most of them are very oily and might dirty your guitar
im totally buying his book....im new to the whole maintenance thing and ill be honest...i'd rather do it myself then pay someone 100$ to fix up all this stuff
thankyou
