  • I was at this show! That little guitar still rings in my head! It was about having a good time! Kick ass rock and excessive libations! All you haters that were conceived in the parking lot that night can kiss my ass! By the way, was your mom wearing the Adam & the Ants button on her jean jacket that night? FUCK YEAH!

  • van halen/dlr original lineup music is about rock partying gettin laid

van hagar- music about i love you? love songs.....see the difference?

  • @EntomologyPurdue I didn't think there was such a thing.

  • Dave's always a bit off...what's your point? A VH used to be a phuking party and people demand perfection? I guess they should stop drinking, stand in place and concentrate real hard on every note. That would be a boring show...or it would be Dream Theater...take your pick.

  • Dave's a bit off here

  • @tomada36 LOL. Dave's always a bit off.

  • @Fetucinee Love him. No matter what.

  • I saw this show in 82. Still have the concert ticket stub. It was for the Diver Down tour. It was my first concert. Hell Yea!

  • To the 3 that dislike this: Go see Justin Bieber, where the Official Program is an article out of Tiger Beat, or go see Crotch Cannibal Gaga, who's Raw Meat Suit I'd like to Snatch, Have a BBQ, & Invite Ted Nugent! come on over, Terrible Teddy! Hang with us: You are Welcome. Van Fucking Halen 4EVER, & that Quote is especially dedicated to Harold Camping!

  • "Wait a minute! I hear guitars!" - oh yeah

  • are you kidding me ? van haggar sucked unless you liked wimp rock

  • Little guitar... my ass!

  • what guitar is eddie using? it looks to small to be a les paul

  • @xEMeehanx its a short scale guitar and its tuned in G i think

  • @xEMeehanx Its the little guitar, hence "little guitars", im not sure what the actual name of the guitar is called though

  • If David would've hit his marks at the right times, they would've been great all the time. Imagine if Sammy was lead singer back then, they would be the greatest band EVER!!! Dillon is an @ss and doesn't know sh@t about great music!!!

  • It's all about Eddie's fantastic melodies, rhythm, and tone — butchered by Dave's struggling voice.

  • damn I wish I saw them back then!

  • @philosovitz I wish you could have, too. I did!

  • great as usual, and Roth is sober and remember the words!!

  • Diamond fucking Dave!!!!

  • I'd give my left nut to be able to see these guys play in their prime.

  • @greydawn I was there! I can still remember my hair raising on my arms when the lights went down. Pure magic

  • 3 people are in trouble and cant get free

  • 1978 to 1984 = the REAL Van Halen

  • nice vid, eddie mike and alex sound great.

  • Least favorite outfit but he still pulled it off.

  • Without a Dave there could never be a Van Halen like this

  • I loved both Dave and Sammy years but .... out of the 2 Dave years definately gets the edge cause it is in fact THE ORIGNAL :-) I still believe Sammy fit right in and was great for the songs he was on. Few of the old things sounded ok with Sammy but some just didn't quite work. But u know .. Poundcake, Judgement Day, All Fired Up ... some great stuff! But yeah at end of day. 78-84 is what it's all about with VH!

  • Van Halen is great but why did Dave sing most every song messed up like that? The delay of the second part of each lyric is what I'm talking about. You can see him do it on almost every live performance. Is he drunk and forgets he's singing or is there never enough air in his lungs. It's pretty annoying.

  • @wafflelust Run, kick ,dance around and cover an 80ft stage while entertaining an audience of 20,000 and have air to sing? Let's see Dave Mathews do it...... LOL! Having attended numerous VH shows from the Roth era, nobody ever complained. It was a total party. Sorry you missed it.... :D

  • @DLRisVH Saw the 1984 show. Was great! At least what I remember of it.

  • I got this whole '82 show on DVD......it's a classic from the glory years of the Mighty Van Halen.......hit me up if you want a copy

  • @Hunkola How do I get a copy of this wonderful music from you ?

  • they both provided a different dynamic. Either way, VH rules regardless!!

  • Isn't the fact that DLR is better than Hagar so obvious that it doesn't need to be re-stated on every single Van Halen post on the internet? It's so tiresome.

  • etch a sketch=catch as catch...i thought that said etch a sketch too til i read the lyrics...funny shit though

  • This is one of my favorite guitar riffs

  • my first concert ever- ! VH rules

  • @electronimonyc Wasn't my 1st concert but I was there too. Capital Center was a great place to see a show.

  • etch a sketch.......etch a sketch.......wtf is he saying?

  • @Louisvillebilly catch as catch......catch as catch ..can

  • WOW! What a borderline train wreck performance!

    OUCH!

    Great vid though!

  • I want that little GUITARRRR!!!

  • Still cant understand why some of you wanna force us into liking Roth and Hagar equally the same........VH w/Roth was like a super-charged Lamborghini........VH w/Hagar was like a shitty Miata

  • @Hunkola so true

  • edward already stated that between 1986 to 96, Sam helped with luggage, t shirts...detail stuff. and he was really good about being a hired hand, while Roth left for ambitious solo career. While touring solo, becoming a licensed paramedic, flying helicopters, scaling mountains- he did a few hits with Ed in 96 to help push the Van Halen cd, best of, that was coming out. Then Dave became a radio host, starred in various MTV shorts, intros, The Sapranos, lending voice overs for The Wolf, and now...

  • i don't know who can play the guitar like him...eddie you rock I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY ONE DO THIS GOD

  • i don't know who can play the guitar like him...eddie you rock

  • A true VH fan can see the good in both Roth and Hagar

  • why is it hard for some to like both Sammy and DLR? They both kicked some ass.

  • @Phitzgood Its so hard because DLR was the and always will be the essential Van Halen. VH Rocked their best years with DLR and things were never the same when he left.

  • @Tilly764 No they got better!!! No more sloppy shit like this!!!!

  • @blasty5150 I can definitely agree to that as well!

  • @Phitzgood its just that van halen was good with sammy. but amazing with DLR. he gave the band the intensity they needed. n plus he gave them that bluesy contribution to the band. there are a million reasons to love roth better. although i do still like sammy. OU812 rules but diver down fucking dominates

  • @Phitzgood Because Sammy sucks.

  • @Phitzgood Yet, David is far superior..... if they were in a horse race of rock n roll and you had to bet all your money on one to win who would it be? thats what i thought... bitch

  • @Phitzgood agree 100%

  • @Phitzgood Different bands! Different music! Both great!

  • @Phitzgood because dave is a kagillion times cooler

  • i really need these dungarees

  • David Fucking Lee Roth!!!!!

To bad he went ''short hair & leather'' and they replaced Mike for a fat fuck who can't sing or play bass at all..

  • @MrDunkJunk --

C'mon dude.....go easy on Wolfman......sure he eats a lot of junk food but he can still slap that bass like a mother.......and yeah David Lee is still a bad ass

  • I hear drums! wait a minute I hear guitar.

  • Wow...did you clean this up or what? All VH vids should eventually clean up as this good!

  • best song ever written! Yep!

  • wow...I mean WOW. Thanks VH.

  • Wow...Dave was Really Out There !

What's with that White Bib ?

  • orgasm...

  • this was/is a great driving song

  • 2:50 the world's smallest guitar

  • look at his guitar its so cute ^_^

  • nice vid, pretty good sound...Van Halen kicks ass^^

  • number 5 on my van halen best song list

    1.Jump

    2.Panama

    3.Dance the night away

4.Can't wait to feel your love tonight

  • @bigtarget9 sorry, wrong. hits pickers are pussies

  • Señoritaaaa!

  • ignorant pricks can suck my dick

  • Yeah its a free country to be a jackass and click on every van halen video just to talk shit about it and debate with people for attention.

  • @chris1969kw

what's your source on this? I went to DLRARMY and couldn't find anything really in a quick glance

  • This Largo footage is some of the best VH "good era" performance I've seen. This was on the brink of them getting sloppy or more-so Dave.

  • Les Paul Pee Wee.

  • there 1978 and 1979 and 1980 and 1984 van halen world toures cant be touched by NO ONE PAST OR PRESENT! AND THERE UP COMING 2010 WORLD TOUR IS ALSO GOING TO DESTROY EVERY BAND OUT THERE!

  • the greatest guitarist of alltime edward van halen! the greatest frontman of alltime! diamond david lee roth. the greatest drummer of alltime! Alex van halen. put them all together and you have the GREATEST FUCKING ROCK N ROLL BAND OF ALLTIME!!!!!

  • and yet they managed to play this total and complete trash....

  • ...And you Adnoydal are a complete moron with obviously NO taste in "real" music. You are probably some N***** who listens to Rap or perhaps a little gay boy who likes the Jonas Brothers... Get off this page if you don't dig Van Halen asshole.

  • Yet another wonderful Yank comments on a shitty video, bravely defending The Ed, who is God, against all gays = niggers = morons = assholes. Ed shits on you and your man-love, because you sound just like any illiterate, generic jihadist needing to defend his Allah or Lenin from the infidel: "Those gay nigger moron Yankee assholes all need to die lolol! All praise Ed!"

Are you familiar with "freedom of speech" where you live and its meaning regarding Comment on This Video?

  • yeah and theres also the right to withhold information so if you could kindly stfu and get a life that would be much appreciated.. i just think its retarded that people like you search things that you dont like and then comment on it..that just stupid

  • Where it says Comment on This Video retards typically don't, or can't, instead spewing macho teen boy invective like "stupid fag stfu gay yo mama LOLOL" hoping to to impress their peers and Ed.

    Ed shits on you..

  • i never said anybody was a fag i was just saying that its stupid to look something up that they dont like and then critisize it...why dont they just watch something they actually like?

  • youtube invites folks to comment on this video and mrcf114 enabled the feature. Take it up with them.

Does freedom of speech not include youtube where you live?

  • im not saying that you cant comment on this! im saying its stupid that your watching a video about something you dont like! it just doesnt make sense to me for somone to take the time to look something up that they hate and troll on it! its just plain dumb

  • I watched them and decided i didn't like them and gave the reasons for it. America is a free country, or so they say.

You don't seem tp complain when posters gush "I jizzed myself" "My face exploded" "Satriani sucks ass" "Fuck you, looser fagot doshbag (spelling theirs) I piss in your mouth LOLOL"

  • PS cue "duelling banjoes..."

  • I love David Lee Roth's outfit

  • WTF? Google the band and find out who started as their lead singer. Quite sad...

  • At least that lead singer is a decent guitarist and was wise enough to hand over the reigns.

  • You are joking, right?

That lead singer is the only true lead man that Van Halen ever had.

    Period.

  • David Lee Roth

  • Sammy Hagar can bite my weenie...David Lee Roth ruled

  • @DillonizDTF you got tht right, i hate sammy

  • @DillonizDTF he's had good and horribly bad moments

  • @RandomPoolGuy84 david lee roth...the original lead singer and the best

  • Where the fuck was my Van Halen DVD Box set 1974-1984 Under my xmas tree ?????,,,,why the fuck does KISS have fucking 3 and VAN FUCKING HALEN HAS NONE ? FUCK GIVE ME ONE NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • この曲はマジかっけー

  • that is a little guitar.

  • anyone know what the deal is with alex's bass drums? it's cool...but what its it!? help me out drummers!

  • Alex was known for doing weird things with his bass drums (including the horrible Simmons pads he used on 1984 and 5150). He would use various baffles, muffles and even some speaker horns to enhance or change his sound. He would even add another set of bass drums to the front of his regular ones to make them deeper and louder. AFAIK, Alex was the first to do that. These things? I dunno. Could be some baffles he cut out that looked cool.

  • Etch a sketch. Etch a sketch.

  • Catch as catch, doof :)

  • Two words.....BAD ASS !!!!!

  • This was the date my drummer took off with my musicians and put together Physical Graffitti with a singer who learned my

  • Totally want one of those teeny tiny Les Pauls or WTF it is!

  • eddie has tiny guitar lol

  • haha David is fucked up in this video lol

  • GOD

  • i knew who van halen was before you born you little basterd they got together 1974 first album was 1978, you cant read dummy i said they rocked 1980 to 1982 was there best years together with david lee roth! fucking geek!

  • aw thats sweet how you treat those younger than you

  • Leave Eddie alone! It's an awesome song! Perhaps not his best live performance, but I don't see any of you Eddie haters on stage!

  • van halen rocked 1980 to 1982 this is the beginning of the end for dave/van halen a couple years later jump came out and thats when i jumped the van halen ship!

  • 1980 to 1982?? Hello?? You do realize they've been around since mid 70's. Stupid

  • yOu AND me

    GIRLS LOVE MEEEEEE

  • its called little guitars for a reason

  • Great Vid!

  • i like Eddie's mini guitar lol

  • I bet if someone held his guitar, Eddie would sue their fingers

  • U couldn't even hold the man's guitar. It would singe your fingers. Eddie V, best guitarist ever.

  • Good times!

  • saw them in '81 and Roth solo on Eat 'em and smile. Roth n roll baby!!

  • I was 14 when I saw them on this tour..then I saw them again at US '83....someone invent a time machine please.! miss those days.

  • @rpgfire I've said the same things a million times man! That era was the shit!!! We definitely need a time machine!!!

  • God what I wouldn't give to be in a rehearsal room with these guys in 1982...

  • The first minute of this song is just fantastic, they should have worked with that!

  • its catch as catch catch as catch can!

  • bad for you to miss this :) I was lucky to see this tour 2 times, ROTH IS THE MAN

  • I think its "etch-a-sketch". At least lyrics in the web are that way. Cheers

  • its catch as catch catch as catch can!

  • Love this song! But I could never tell if they were singing "etch-a-sketch" or "catch as catch can." Anybody?

  • Man diver down was a fucking beast!!!

  • OMG! The Eddie and Mike are totally of-key with their singing at 1:20 :D

  • well, he's old. you should be happy he can still run around that much!

  • Certainly one of Eddie's most unique and interesting riffs. This tune is great, the highlight of Diver Down.

  • The Greatest Rock and Roll Band of all time! One of my favorite songs off one of my favorite albums! Rock on guys, Bottoms up!!! |)

  • Is it Etch a Scetch, Etch a Scetch...Like the kids toy? what is he saying?!!!

  • LOL, he is saying" catch as catch, catch as catch can"....a slang phrase meaning whatever is handy or readily available. ;-)

  • thank you..that has been driving me nuts for years! who uses that slang anyway?

  • DLR is a bright and well read guy with a real ear for catchy (sorry for the pun;-)) phrases; wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with that lyric choice. The party-hearty, skirt-chaser persona is just one persona he slips on when appropriate.. Read his book or catch some of his more in-depth interviews and you'll see what I mean--love him or hate him, there is no denying he has a very quick wit and a much broader range of experiences than most of his peers.

  • I saw the show in 82 at the centrum .

    Eddie had a broken wrist.

I didn't know but 4 Van Halen songs at the time so I didn't get to really appreciate the show as much as I could have.

I wish I had because looking back at these YouTube clips of that era ...this band was firing on all cylinders at that time!

  • Songs like this is what seals the debate that Van Halen is the best band of all time. At their peak with the 1984 album they blew the minds off everybody.

  • i want that les paul :P

  • better singer than sam daimond dave rules

  • They tuned this one down a bit for the latest tour... if you compare it's clear... we all get older!

  • fucken badass song

  • The Greatest Show on Earth...

    Yes it was!!!

  • eddie's fingerpicking in this song sounds so good. it's lively but at the same time soothing.

    LONG LIVE =VH=

  • w/e it's better than seeing like Rush trying to sound perfect all the time. DLR also prob drunk as fuck anyways

  • I disagree, I think he's singing great.

  • i completely disagree. His singing is great, it fits the vibe of the song.

  • Singing is great but the bassist backing vocal sounds like crap at a few moments.

  • this was done a day after my 12th birthday! fucking awesome 5 stars!

  • funny even way back in 82 u can see dave just a couple nuts short of a payday. still a great version of a great song thanks to evh.

  • I have always been a huge Van halen fan. Great video. I have a technical question here: Anybody know what purpose the round horn-like things in front of the bass drums serve? I assume they enhance the sound. Any imput?

  • It's so good I can't believe it.

  • Dave is saying "Catch as catch, catch as catch can". This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Great video, thanks.

  • ... Ed's mini Les Paul was made by Nashville luthier Dave Petschulat and is not a Gibson.

  • etch a sketch etch a sketch....nah, it's funny tho :)

  • lol, i dont know the words to this, is that what he actually says?, if not it would be hilarious

  • Gosh, they were so amazing back then.

    Diamond MFin' Dave, babay!

  • I hear one of the greatest bands of all time in their prime.......
