do u guys have any 2005 it the new dt 466 in them and if you do did you guys have any problems with them. i work at a feed in cadott and we that a 2005 international 7400 or its a 7600 model i dont drive it much but the dt 466 should be one of the best motors but that truck been a lemon the day we got it.
sometimes the torque convertor sounds like 1st to 2nd gear shift as it can double the torque of the engine like a 1st gear and vary that torque to being same as the engine when the rpm in and out of the convertor r the same if that makes sense.
If u notice automatic cars the first gear is usually the same reatio as 2nd on a manual because a convertor can multiply torque by 2:1 or more so first gear is higher,if that makes sense?
You should have boss man take the trucks to the dealer. If the ABS light is on, that means it likely wont work in the event of an emergency. That spells liability in an accident investigation. Just a word of caution. ABS light was on in my 06, and they wouldnt even let me drive it.
So far on out fuel trucks, we've had the clutch go out on both trucks, glow plugs fowl up, truck completely not start 75 miles from where we dock at, wheel bearings go out, etc.
Hoping it's just bad luck, really wish we could have gotten freightliners, but this was before I had been hired.
The newer ones in our lineup with the Eaton-Fuller UltaShift have been a pain and those 3 particular trucks have also had the most problems. The older trucks in our fleet, with just regular automatics, have been the most reliable and least-costly. I think it's just bad luck with you =D
Haha, maybe. Both of ours (2005 and 2007) were manual transmissions, and I'm sure both of them have the Eaton-Bullshitter in them. I know the 2005 does for sure.
Right now we're looking for a new truck to add to the collection. Which I'm sure we're going Freightliner this time. International's just haven't been able to handle the workload of the day-to-day fuel truck operations. :(
Emissions have killed their once-prominent engines, I'd say. I don't think any new truck is really up to par these days though, hopefully you have good luck with the Freightliners!
theres another tranny that International uses, i forget the name. it starts with a S, spinner, steiner, something like that. I heard its the worse one on the market. So make sure its a allison or eaton fuller. if its not one of thos you have the crap of the litter
@vtwinbreed Try to deter them from buying Freightliners they are worse then the Internationals. The company I work for has Freightliners, Sterlings & Internationals. The freights & Sterling have lousy suspensions, steering wheel wobble (all 4 of them the company owns) They lack for nothing as far as maintenance goes. Plus the cabs & controls are awfull. Mercedes Benz owns Freightliner & they make nothing but junk!
@4thstooge Problem is, choice in our area is Freightshaker or breakemnational as those are the only maintenance companies in the area other than Peterbilt, but the one Peterbilt place here is VERY overpriced.
I'm trying to get them to look at a new Volvo chassis, with a 'kitty cat' (blame dieselducy) inside.
@vtwinbreed If the clutch is going out than someone is not driving correctly, probably starting out in to high a gear. 2. The DT-466 doesn't have glow plugs, just the VT365/T444E a junker of a motor. If the truck doesn't start bad battery, starter or some other problem. Wheel bearings to go out general maintenance. Sound's normal to me.
Do you have to double clutch the manual 4300 on the downshift?

Buckshot3715 2 years ago
Nah the brakes work like a charm on all of our trucks, the ABS light is on on almost every truck too. I dunno, works perfect for me!
goldenjimbo007 2 years ago
Yeah our 2004 has had problems with the ABS since it was new.

it has a 5 speed but clearly 6 gears?

its the sensor at the front tires that get dirty and it makes the light go on.

Have you been having problems with the 4300?

This Truck is Better Nice Engine,Nice Sound and with Air Brakes

DT466 is a great engine. Although is louder than VT-365 (JUNK) and T-444-E. The 466 doesn't even come close to either of them (365 and 444)
bluebirdvision 3 years ago 2
Ah the VT365 is merely the 6.0 powerstroke you see in Ford pickups, it's a fine engine as long as you stay away from the 2004 models!

My International IC CE-200 school buses are JUNK!!! Injector problems galore. Much perfer CAT or Cummins in a Bird body
