This guy really does speak the truth. I'm asian myself and like if you guys are asian , you guys know that asian parents wants you to be something great in life, either they want you to be a engineer, lawyer, or a doctor. But something they don't ever want you to be is a dancer, I myself love breaking.
@sharerapid81 Its something I really enjoy, but its just sometimes parents are so ignorant.I understand they want us to have a good life and not throw it all to something that may never pay you back, but they mix that just because your a breaker it dosen't mean you have to be a gangster or dress a certain and have sagging pants. Its
@sharerapid81 just a misconeption that they have. My one wish that I would love any parents to see that this culture isn't what it seems to be. It isn't bad people dissing each other and being hard but its more of respect, love, and learning from each other.
im black.and chinese decent....i dont give a what about ..what people say..you can make it in bboying..why because its a dance....its an art form..and is also movement..long story short..bboy is an art form..it is created threw movement and expression..as to portiats or lines on a paper.. when some body says to you are you a breakdancer? you say im a bboy. and keep on walkin!..bboy is forever
it was so good to hear this. there r just about no bboys at my college, and i dont really go out and party much either cuz im also using that time to train. big up to zeshen!
@kingbowserboi: Lol. Well, mostly all those questions came from the top of my head.... So if I'm a little awkward, excuse me. I like being awkward. Makes the interviews interesting. -ManOfGod
thanks so much for this upload. my favorite interview yet. its a big inspiration to hear another dancer can have the passion for both school and bboying. im still in highschool but AP classes and trying to keep my grades up gets stressful sometimes and have worried I would have to quit bboying. now i got new motivation to find that balance and keep doing what i love.
About time ive seen him interviewed!!!!I live in texas and ive been seeing zeshen for 2 years the guys footwork makes me die a little inside.lol Oh well ive gotta practice hard to get to his level.
Its my dream in life to become a b-boying doctor. For the longest time, I've always thought that this was something ridiculous because you don't really see many b-boys pursuing dance and academics simultaneously. Zeshen has just given me incredible resolve, and this interview was a revelation in my life. Mad respect to him, and a big thanks to strifetv for posting this. Impossible is a word that no longer exists in my vocabulary.
god so much i can relate with...i got to UCLA and my buddies and I after a sesh started talking about this topic of dance + education and zeshen came up and here he is talking about it..perfecto! big inspiration thanks strife!
Since I started studying film in the University, I rarely go to practices, but I dance almost everyday at home. Zeshen, you are a true inspiration, good luck at everything you do man, you'll be blowing up big soon bro.
Woah, this guy just inspired me. Not just in his style but as a person too. I couldn't balance bboy with Landscape architecture that i had to shift bboy aside vice versa just to concentrate on the final project or concerts. These are the 2 things i love to do in my life, I am now inspired to really concentrate on balancing both of these (Y)
Zeshen is such a huge inspiration to me. He's given me the confidence to try and get the best out of both worlds. B-boying and School. It's 100% possible absolutely!
P.S. I love his accent hahahah! Chinese American with a Latino accent. :)
@32KOAST Valid point. Once again, I can't speak for everyone, just my experience. Not easy at all. At my current state of education work is simply not viable, there is not enough time in the world, with or without dancing. It's all either parental investment or more commonly, student loans. Good luck.
man this is probably the best interview i've ever seen on strife. I think it touches well on a lot of bboy's lives out there that have to go through that balance in life as a bboy in school. It's a HUGE issue in our young bboying world that's emerging and it's good to see someone who can set a great example for all the younger bboys who are still in school
i feel like droppin out everyday for dance! but i kno knowledge is power and i hate it lol, im an active bboy in houston and this dude is raw wreckin at every jam
As a bboy and student (Commerce)...it is possible to finish school because i am pretty much near finishing my degree...but all i think about throughout school is think about dancing. So dancing definitely affects my academic performance and goals negatively..i hate school haha....
yo mad props to Doctor Z ( lolz thats what they call him in austin haha) seen him come a long way, started bboying around the same year as him. mad talented with his own style and skills, always ripping it up and killing them beats. keep doing ur thing zeshen, represent for texas to the fullest, mad respect for havikoro crew too. always good to see a fellow bboy from the same city as yourself come up.
this interview is actually really relevant to me. i'll try to keep this in mind when i head off to college in a couple months. Thanks strife.tv and Zeshen :)
I also go to Medical School... I can practice 2 hrs a week max... I honestly have no idea where he gets the time to practice... wow... I tip my hat to you sir! well done!
great words of inspiration from Zeshen....i too also want to go to med school and ive been told that its very difficult to balance that with anything else (especially bboying). After watching this vid, im relieved a little to know that theres someone who has given some inspiring words to help me realize that i can achieve my goal and doing what i love to do at the same time.
thank you strife...my favorite interview mann...i can relate sooo much to this...zeshen mos def inspires me to keep bboying while goin to school...props!
man this is inspiring. my crew and I are also facing the same thing....and one of our crew mate is on the verge of giving up hope for bboying due to med school pressure....I hope this video will change his mind and continue to be inspired. mad props and respect from me and my crew The Suburbaknightz!
mad inspiring indeed. And of course there will always be some large percentage of people struggling with the same situation as someone else. It's when that someone else shares his story of overcoming a situation that an inspiration is born among those people. And so we gain confidence in the choices we make and trudge on, bearing in mind that such inspirational stories have happy endings.
