@cowboybeepbop1 Nope. The game's bleeding money. Not enough prime accounts or runes are purchased to beat out the cost of hosting all of the servers and services required for the game to run.

Anyways, Savage 1 was turned to the community when it was made freeware, so costs are just about nil when it comes to that game. There are additional plans for the K2 engine and even Savage 2 itself, so the community option isn't available for Savage 2.

@cowboybeepbop1 Uh no. That's not what I meant by a community option - the community option would be completely open-sourcing the game and handing over hosting to them, which is not possible.

Also, the very fact that a free option is available (there are premium account upgrades and runes, but there's very few sales for those) makes it very difficult to support the game, as the ROI per user is almost nonexistant, and the cost per user is way too high.

Are you referring to OSX? Easiest way to make sure that you can run Savage 2 is to have OSX 10_5_6 and any ATI/Nvidia card.

I downloaded this game for the MAC and it runs great! I did have an issue with the Tutorial (couldnt finish.). The game itself fired right up on my MAC and I played a solid 2 hours with no crashes. IMO this is the best FREE game thats available for MAC, PC, or Linux owners.

WEll i downloaded this game for mac and every time i click the icon to play my screen turns black and suddenly returns to my desktop, THen a little window pops up on my screen saying that the application quit unexpectedly. It asks me if i want to relaunch it or ignore it. This is keeping me from playing can somebody tell me how to fix this?

That's pretty much always caused by having a graphics adapter that can't run Savage 2, or an older version of OSX.

Open the apple menu, choose "about this mac", and click "more info". Look for a mention of what graphics adapter you're using.

Automatically assuming that it has nothing to do with your computer or internet connection severely limits what we can try. What are your system specs and what type and speed of internet connection do you have?

Maybe you should try and change server. Because if your living in kazakstan the US servers arent your best choice. Try the Eu servers.

And if ur specs are bad turn down all (most) of the settings. The draw distance is probeably the most usefull to get down if you dont got 2gb ram+ The game is meele based anyway.

Yea, you start at level 1 at the start of each match and as you fight the enemy and support your team you'll gain experience and level up. Each level, you'll gain attribute points which can be spent to increase your character's strength, intelligence, agility, and endurance. Every few levels, you'll earn pieces of armor which are purely aesthetic and help to indicate your level to other players.

Yea, two teams of up to 25 players each fight against each other, with one player on each team acting as the commander, who guides their team, builds structures, and cast spells to help teammates and harm enemies. Each match lasts 15-60 minutes normally, although some can last a couple of hours.

I have a question...how do you get like armor and stuff...because i've seen that the armor on the savage gets better and better?

As you fight, heal, repair, etc. you gain experience for successfully performing those tasks/killing enemies. You'll level up with enough experience and every few levels you'll be adorned with a new piece of armor. It's almost purely a visual thing, although as players levels they can spend attribute points to improve their health, mana, melee damage, and stamina, so a fully armored enemy will be a decent bit tougher than an unarmored one.

Yea, my bad. The shapeshifter has a couple of shapeshifting type abilities. One is polymorph, which allows the shapeshifter to mimic the appearance of an enemy. The other is trerok form, which is a travel form that allows it to traverse the map quickly.

You're seeing a pretty old version of the game in that video too. Tons of updates since then. Check out the hiddenvillage trailer that I put up recently.

The community-run strategy wiki, savage2guide (dot) com, has a lot of great information for new players.

When you create an account on the Savage 2 website, you get an hour of demo play and can worry about purchasing the game later (the game's $20 at the moment). All of the non-online stuff is completely free.

Servers are still filling up like usual. The only AI-controlled characters are the NPC's (similar to Warcraft 3's creeps) and the commander-controlled (a player acts as the commander from an RTS perspective on each team) journeyman and saplings. Everything else is a player just like any fps game.

Go download the client and view some replays, go through the tutorial, etc. Everything offline is free. If you register on their website, you can play online for 5 hours for free.

The player count is rising pretty quick now that the game's been released on steam - lots of people are playing now.

Shapeshifters have a polymorph ability that allows them to mimic the appearance of an enemy unit. While polymorphed they can only use their two ranged spells.

AMD64x2 4600, 2 gigs of ram, 7800GTX. I lost a lot of FPS in that video through setting the shadows up and running fraps, even though I had turned down the resolution for youtube. The game is a bit better optimized now - that was from the beta and a lot of updates have been released.

It works on vista. There are some complaints of crashes but I'm convinced that's mostly from people who don't keep their drivers/windows up to date. Also, vista needs at least an extra gig of ram over XP, among other things.

I recently installed ubuntu to play around with it, and I can confirm that Savage 2 runs quite well - at least as well as the windows version. You should probably have an nvidia card if you want to run it. As far as I can tell you have to go through a bunch of driver hassle to get things working if you're running on an ati card.
