anche se quella dove il commendatore canta e dove egli viene ripreso è fore migliore. qui viene ripreso tutto il temp don giovanni che fa delle facce a dir poco orrende.

Love the thunder in the background, although the commendatore's voice is too high pitched. It's a a piece for a real bass.

The fact that you can´t see the Commendatore, gives a really nerv chilling effect. It takes some really good acting of Don Giovanni to make it work, but thats no problem for Allen. Thrilling, love it!

Weak cast, also tempo s WAY too fast. It kills the whole thing. Check out Furtwangler's interpretation, about 2x slower. In the current tempo one misses everything... 1/5 stars, but thanks for posting

Agreed, the voices are a bit weak. BUT I suspect that the recording technique is worsening it a bit at least.

Apart from the voices I think most comments on this video oversee that not only the staging and the acting is great, also the conductor is a genius and put this often performed piece of music to one of it#s best versions ever.

So, skip the singers, listen to the music and enjoy the great staging.

All voices are to weak. Baritons singing Bass roles and do not singing the low notes. By the way is this normal now a days?

io adoro questa regia...non riesco a capire le critiche che giungono da più parti...un critico ha scritto che i lampi che introducono la statua del commendatore hanno dato il colpo di grazia alla messa in scena, io invece li trovo un colpo di scena geniale anzi, è idiota la regia televisiva che a 0:26 stacca dal campo lungo al primo piano di don giovanni, in realtà doveva lasciare l'inquadratura così com'era perchè si stava facendo sempre più evidente l'avanzare del commendatore...

nell'ultimo parte di questa (comunque bella) edizione del Don Giovanni Allen ha un calo di voce spaventoso, che è possibile già avvertire quando canta "Fin c'han dal vino". Comunque è una prestazione dignitosa ed è da apprezzare la stoicità della cosa :) peraltro la presenza scenica rimane ottima. Io trovo che l'impostazione di Muti data all'opera sia ottima.

I think Allen sounds fine on the DVD (I've heard him better)- THIS copy is horribly unflattering t his voice.

Ironically, the commendatore sounds better on here than the dvd- he sounds like he has a cold, though, or just needs his tonsils out.... the leporello should kinda be shot for his flutter, lol.

Amazing! Allen sounds like he's got a really bad cold. And this is just few years after he recorded one of the best Dons in history with Haitink. I am surprised that they let him out on stage at all, not to mention filming it for posterity.
