  • Bob Hope helped make America laugh for 60 years---Can anyone think of a finer vocation than making people feel better?? (and I'm not talking about doctors). God Bless You, Bob!! You were one funny man.

  • America's first shock jock.

  • WTF ? Billy Graham was on the Dean Martin roasts ? I seriously had to do a double take .

Wonder if he was having a few drinks with the guys

  • @scitsalcoryp Well, what that shows is how wholesome, clean, and good-spirited these roasts really were, especially compared to the roasts that are on nowadays, that someone like Billy Graham could appear on them. Billy Graham could also have counted as an entertainer, and thus could be on the same level of prestige as the people he appeared on this episode with.

  • @gaelicviking i knew someone would mention how "wholesome" these roasts are. the only reason for that is they were televised. before this when they had private roasts they cursed just as much as these days.

  • @thefaketahare On the one hand you are correct; my only point was in addressing the fact that someone like Billy Graham could appear on this public roast. Goodness knows Sinatra wasn't exactly a choirboy when it came to his language, much less Deano himself.

  • Dean is so cute. Wish I could have been alive during this time.

  • 01:20 Dean's reaction is hilarious!!

  • That is Mark Spitz & Sandler would not make the cut to be on that show.

  • Camaraderie at it's best.

  • Didn't laugh once but everyone was laughing like they had heard the funniest thing EVER?

  • @binsk Cause you don't have a Good sense of Humor maybe..

    No offense....

  • @binsk i think you're ignorant. you probably think adam sandler is the greatest comic ever.

  • @Sherpaful perhaps it is ignorant to call people ignorant because they don't have the same sense of humour as you? For the record I can't stand Adam Sandler.

  • who's jerry?

  • Comment removed

  • @lb9201, Dean Martin's old comedy partner Jerry Lewis

  • قل هو الله احد الله الصمد لم يلد ولم يولد ولم يكن له كفوا احد صدق الله العظيم

  • WTF!!!! I mean these are/were A-list celebrities. BTW, was that Freddie Prinze?

  • @pussyStarter I'm pretty sure that's swimmer Mark Spitz who had just won 7 gold medals at the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

  • These guys were funny, no foul language on air but the innuendos, oh the innuendos. Innuendo is a lost art with most of today's comedians. Probably because it is lost on most of today's audiences.

  • @MonkeyMagic88

    Don Rickles is Jewish.

  • This is real comedy , not the Jewish filth that we see on today's celebrity roasts...

  • as soon as i saw Dean reaching for the glass at 1:15 i imagined exactly what happened five seconds later :)

  • These are REAL American icons and celebrities on stage here. I mean did you notice all the legends he mentioned here? Ronald Reagan (regardless if u agree with his politics), Omar Bradley, Neil Armstrong, Jimmy Stewart, etc. Now when they do roasts its d-list actors, unfunny comedians, and reality tv "stars" roasting Flava Flav and Bob Saget. Pathetic.

  • 34 people were not allowed admittance to the home.

  • Who are these 34 people who disliked this?

  • What happened when roasts could be done with PG-PG-13 language and clever humor instead of the dirty low-brow humor.

  • my god this was tv at its best.not f**** x factor

  • such excellent quality good job, also gotta love these roasts

  • "It takes many years to be a great comedian." "Sure does, you ain't reached that year yet!"

  • "This is wonderful being here at the Home, and I say this from my heart!

    No! It's a joke, It's a joke, *Pause* It's a Joke [Looks a Bob Hope] BOB!, It's a Joke. I take it back, I Swear!!"

I couldnt quit laughing at that, and also when Don says,"It takes many years to be a Great Comedian!", Dean Martin responded by saying, "Sure does and you ain't reached that Year Yet!" that is when I died laughing!

Ahh! Those were definately the good years. Thank you for this video, it made my day! :)

  • This is the one. My favorite!

  • Good times. I remember watching these as a kid. Very funny.

  • @55tumbler You're a totally ignorant buzz kill.

  • dont laugh these are bad times who cares about the stupid past

    prejudice weedwackers

  • 1:30 Martin catches Rickles with a stinging right and Rickles comes back with a TKO - I could watch this exchange over and over again.

  • Dean's reaction to the home joke...that's priceless enought to be on a MasterCard commercial.

  • A lot of act is totally offensive, but no one cares because he's so funny.

  • Another Rickles Night on Youtube. Don Rickles, you are treasure that will sadly never be appreciated in our prejudicial society, a true comedic genius of his time and beyond. Few will ever truly recognize your art.

  • it takes many a year to be a great comedian. Dean- Sure does, you aint reached that year yet. HAHAHA LOVE IT!!!!!

  • partly its political correctness. is the reason beyond why comedy sucks nowadays. but also the dumbness of a lot of society.

  • @drafe007

In other words, a lack of good material.

The decline in writing and delivery has certainly resulted into bad comedy.

It's sad that today's adult material is more childish than the comedy shows over a decade ago that were geared towards children.

  • Billy Graham and Reagan?

That threw me for a loop.

  • And they replaced these guys with Andy Dick and Lisa Lampanelli? Seriously, is that the best we can do?

  • i love this

  • Don Rickles was the best.

We are too politically correct these days to do things that Don Rickles did back in the day. Same thing with most of the other stars shown here.

We were able to poke fun at minorities and not get offended. Now if you try to make fun of other ethnic groups you may find yourself on the front page for bad behavior.

Seriously, there was a quality to be had back then that we have certainly lost today.

  • @KratostheThird you said "Now if you try to make fun of other ethnic groups you may find yourself on the front page for bad behavior." Hmmm, maybe you dont watch Family Guy

  • 1:34 is hilarious!

  • Dean's smart remark is hilarious!!

  • These are the comics that could you make you laugh without the f bombs and lewd comments.

  • When he said, "It's great being here at the home." poor Dean almost spat out his water, lol.

  • @BreastsInspector , actually, i think he did spit out a little because he wiped his mouth. I agree wholeheartedly as to the lol. I wanted to ROFLOL

  • "Thank you, Jerry." A priceless moment made even better by Dean's reaction. And did you hear that woman scream with helpless laughter at 1:54? That's pure joy -- sounds like she ruptured her spleen on that one.

Let us celebrate "The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts," for they truly are a time capsule of entertainment -- and, maybe more importantly, entertainers -- that we shall never again see the likes of.

  • @rosewoodfretboard - i agree, when i was very young back in the 1970's i would watch the celebrity roasts with my parents, endless comedic talent, never to be seen again, the good ole days....I love Don Rickles....

  • THIS IS WONDERFUL BEING HERE AT THE HOME- HAHAHAHAHA

  • Making a joke about blacks and their lips. You would never get away with that today.

  • Don Rickles everybody...

  • They have yet to be matched.

  • Wow, a time in America when the religious right conservatives weren't such complete tightasses that even Billy Graham accepted at roasts?

Talk about the good old days. Could you imagine Kenneth Copeland and the rest of the 'profit prophets' ever exposing themselves to a roast?

  • "Jack Benny, Milton Berle, It's great being here at the home." Too Funny!

  • I thought he was the "merchant of venom". "Master of venom" sounds like he captured a spiderman foe.

  • These guys are awesome. There are people like this out there today, but too bad the masses of asses don't get this brand of humor. The only thing people laugh at today are drug and alcohol references, sexual inuendos and remarkable stupidty.

  • @TenderTrap86, today's comedian's could learn a Lot from these legendary comedians. who could have fun tell jokes and say things to each other in a good natured way with out feeling insulted or offended others.

  • Is that Billy Graham? Score.

  • "If there's another outburst, we're gonna let Bob Hope get up here and do his jokes!"

  • You're right. That was the best comedy. Wish those days were still here.

  • Now, THAT'S comedy!

  • @ 1:33 OMG

  • You can't sat this shit now.

  • whats funny about thank you jerry?

  • @acepilot189 He was partners with Jerry Lewis for many years but they had a falling out.By Saying "Thank you Jerry." it's as if he is nothing without Jerry or that Jerry is the real reason for his success..Trust me, It's a major jab..Recognized by all of the people there and those watching at the time...

  • @acepilot189 Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis did many, many movies together then had a rather bad falling out. That is what was so funny.

  • 1:20 Dean Martin almost spews.

  • The BEST comeback ever! "...Thank you, Jerry!"

That even TOPS Dean Martin's joke about Don Rickles!

    What a quick-wit! Brilliant! :)

  • these roast's have me in stiches,love em , :)

  • A dais of proof that laughter really is the best medicine! ☺

  • 1:14 to 1:54 is some great stuff.

  • There is a new great one in You Tube with George C Scott roasting Rickles! GEORGE C SCOTT! That says how much this guy is appreciated.

  • Smoking _and_ drinking on stage??? Such simple times, we are way too uptight these days and if we are not, there are people who make sure we are.

  • @Tentacleed I understand it was ginger ale.

  • @Tentacleed they were ignorant of the health risks. that's all.

  • @Tentacleed do you not watch the roasts they do on comedy central?

there is still people drinking and smoking on stage.

  • Rickles: "It takes many years to be a great comedian."

Martin: "It sure does and you ain't reached that year yet!"

I'm curious to know if Don Rickles has reached that year yet. :)

  • I like how he says that Bob's pure American, when he's half Welsh and half English

  • All you crazy political posters, go grab a tea bag, a sign, a fold up chair and go listen to McDonald the Witch. This is comedy, not a political show. Go watch Faux News, or pay attention to Glen Beck's blackboard.

  • @Saffron49 Hmmm...me thinks this sounds like the rant of a LIB:)

  • @Saffron49 well we can all see how great things are under odumbo....lol....wanna try again son and this time take obamas penis out of your mouth. This ex marine cant stand what this administration has doen to your country.

  • too funny!

  • 1:56 PAUSE, i see a vampire

  • Neil Armstrong the greatest actor of all time.

    Moon Faking

  • I'm surprised Rickles didn't make any jokes about what Berle was really famous for.....

  • I don't believe for a minute that Dean Martin's "ad lib" about Don Rickles wasn't scripted. Why else would Don pause and give him an opening?

  • @karlakor There doesn't appear to be any opening, especially if you notice RIckles surprised double take. You'll also note that before a punch line and throughout his act he pauses for effect. These gentlemen were the greats, they were at the top of there game. They didn't need any "openings" to assist there quick quips and scintillating comebacks.

  • thats a great zing by Dean Martin, "it takes many years to become a great comedian", "yea, you haven't reached that year yet"

  • @eolsunder Nice comeback by Don, though, calling him 'Jerry' (as in Lewis)

  • Not ever in a million years will there be another BOB HOPE.

  • Don Rickles is my all time hero

  • " Ahh, Thank you Jerry"...Great comeback on Dean Martin after he zinged him.

  • The REAL roasts right here. Those comedy central curse filled un funny pieces of shit roasts are horrible. Don Rickles, Dean Martin against Andy Dick and that pig Lisa Lampenelli? please....

  • the way Don had all these legends of Hollywood falling out of their chairs laughing hysterically is just legendary.

  • Too many idiots on here can't separate comedy from politics, just because Regan is in a tiny clip. God get over it. I'm here to laugh not see your delusions about the President and your ignorant, misguided speeches about what you think is socialism. If I wanted to see morons scream right-wing conspiracies I'd turn on Faux News.

These Dean Martin roasts are the best and Don Rickles is amazing. Even out of roasts, he can insult you to your face and you have to take it.

  • these were real stars....not like the socialist american haters we have today. aww the good old days.

  • Obama the socialist. Big rave reviews now, sure..after killing Bin Laden, which he can thank the Bush policies for. Can't wait to see this disgrace defeated next election. He hasn't done ONE thing positive for this country yet, besides screw up health care and make kids that are not even 5 years old yet in debt already.

  • This was when roasts were actually funny not the crap comedy central put on. no one was better then Don Rickles.

  • don the greatest showman

  • well I am a black woman and I didnt get the black joke...

  • if you cant say what was said than does that mean we are more or less racist....?

  • @theMixBandit Well I am a black woman and I laughed...

  • @Denise7826 There was no animosity there as the where all equals, and they knew it. They where all some really great people.

  • @Denise7826 I did too and I'm a White guy. The two funniest roasts were for Sammy Davis Jr, and Mr. T. I especially enjoyed Sammy Davis which was laden with Black and White jokes that had me in tears. Davis looked like he was having a ball and had a great line at the end.

  • @Denise7826 Well good for mixbandit its all in fun!

  • @theMixBandit which one?

  • @MrNYCman530 What is your point? Bush was involved? They died of natural causes...thankfully lived LONG PRODUCTIVE lives...They LOVED THEIR COUNTRY.

  • I fear the future will be benign and sorely bereft of the talent that we can only look back upon and wish it still were.

  • Don Rickles is Classic and will always be one of my favorites

  • lmao score one for Dino 1:30

  • why is neil armstrong there?

  • Billy Graham is still alive.

  • An era now sadly passed..we will never see the likes of these stars again.

  • Dean Martin, Reagan, Berle, Sinatra, Sugar Ray Robinson, Jack Benny, Jimmy Stewart, Graham, Omar Bradley -- ALL DEAD. The age of the closed studio is long gone. You'll never see a group of 'stars' like this ever again.

  • =D

  • I love Don Rickles he is HILARIOUS!!!!

  • wow it's cool seeing General Omar Bradley there......nice.

  • If they told black jokes today, there's be an uproar! It was all in fun back there and no offense was taken! It's amazing what political correctness did to our society!

  • @johnifly

it destroyed us (political correctness). But, the reason it was funny "back then" was because blacks were "black" - jews were jews, whites were whites, italians were italians and mexicans were mexicans and we all lived in our part of town. We were all living in a society in which we walked and talked according to our roots, purpose and culture. The jokes were even funnier because they were true!!! Today... that's a cardinal sin. It's too bad - because it is so funny!!

  • @Burnsengine That does make sense now! I'd like to think we're all AMERICANS! A few years ago a guy at work made that point to me when I mentioned "African-American" and several other groups of people and he told me that if they were born in the United States they were Americans! It does make sense! If someone was born in African and then came to this country, maybe then they would be called African-Americans. Thanks for giving your ideas on this!

  • There will never be another comedian as fast and sharp as Don Rickles

  • Great jokes!

One question though... Who's Jerry & why did Dean Martin laugh so hard?

  • @aim1221 Jerry is referring to Dean's former comedic partner, Jerry Lewis.

  • I used to watch these every week in the 70s when I was in my mid teens. Funny how Rickles had rapidfire satire at the ready, and then Martin smacks him when he says "you haven't reached that year yet." LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!! Rickles gets back at him by calling him Jerry. Milton Berle goes after Rickles...LOL!!!! Great comedy back then.

  • Their is NOONE today that even approaches Don Rickles. His lightening quick yet SWITCH WATCH TIMING is impossible to duplicate. The fact he was actually funny without cursing. Just by THINKING.

These guys are throwbacks. Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Dean Martin IMPOSSIBLE to replace. They were here, and now the comedy mics stand vacant.

  • We just saw Rickles 3 weeks ago at the Orleans in Vegas...Funny as hell with audience participation. He's now 85. God Bless you Don!

  • Back in the day when comedians were funny without the need for explicatives.

  • The Great Rectum God was nothing. An actor who best known for working opposit a Chimp.

The Shrub and Dick(less) left this country with over Eleven Trillion Dollars of Debt.

  • When hollywood had class..........when America had class!

  • With Reagan we had SIX Tax Increases. Illegal wars in El Salvador. Reagan left America with a crippling deficit.

The Great Rectum God was good hitting his marks, remembering his lines and eating goddamn jelly beans.

  • @traveler94965 and the Moslem Marxist occupant of the White House has left America over a TRILLION DOLLARS in debt, bows to foreign dictators, kisses the asses of filthy, black Nation of Islam racists and has kept American troups in Iraq, despite promising to take them out. At least Reagan could speak coherently and without a telepromter. Oh yes,....Reagan was also born in the United States.

  • @TheBlueyedblond *LOL*@U! Awwwww U poor thing! So full of HATE, U can't even spell Muslim when u call him that! Spelled M-U-S-L-I-M NOT Moslem! HaaaHaaa! I Pray for U!

  • @MrsD7777 Actually it is spelled either way...Moslem is correct as is Muslim.....and while there are many fine moslems, there is no such thing as a fine islam!

  • @Albertanator AND? I stand "corrected" on the spelling: "The ordinary word in English is "Muslim", pronounced /ˈmʊslɪm/ or /ˈmʌzləm/. The word is pronounced [ˈmʊslɪm] in Arabic." As far as for Islam, I am Not, nor have I ever been a follower of that religion & Never will be, so? *lol* PEACE!

  • @MrsD7777 HA HA...pray for you fascist! There are many ways of spelling Moslem, and since I lived and travelled in the Middle East, I should know. Now go back to the 3rd world MOSLEM shithole that you came back and shut the fuck up!

  • @TheBlueyedblond

  • If you're thin skinned STAY AWAY FROM DON RICKLES!!!!!!

  • i didnt get it. i like the new roasters better

  • Every video I've watched on Youtube that was old material but good, there is always a comment about nostalgia.

That's what these Top Comments basically are. Even the very shows I watched when they were brand new some 20-25 years ago are now filled with comments talking about the old days. How the quality of those shows I saw are superior to anything on television today.

I think some of these people are right. Television is a 'Reality' wasteland.

  • awww ty Jerry. Dean laughs so freakin hard. its awesome.

  • Great, the "All Stars", best greetings from Germany

  • "there's no booing! ... if there's another outburst, we're going to let Bob Hope get up and do his jokes!"

  • "I kid Jack Benny, Milton Berle, this is wonderful being here at the home." (Dean spits up his drink)

That is the funniest thing....I actually took a drink the same time dean did and did the same thing!!!!! And then Dean's come back with "It sure does and you ain't reach that year yet" This is comedy!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Bob was British.

  • Y procurar ser util a los demas, que mas puedes desear?

  • @surfbum5412 There will never, ever, be a better roaster than Rickles.

  • 2:49 to 2:57

Im fed up with you XD

  • Comedy needs "freedom" to be at this high level. We don't have that today in our PC culture. Both Dean and Don reached that "year" and stayed there for their whole careers. The beauty here isn't just the humor but the perfect timing and play between these legends. Things aren't funny like this now days because PC buriies the source of real comedy. Thank you Jerry....priceless.

  • Now this is TRUE comedy!!!!!!!

  • I love it...to Dean: "thank you, Jerry."

  • I love the black peoples reaction to the Sugar Ray Robinson and black peoples lip joke. back then, people could take a racist joke. we do that today and the NAACP or Jesse Jackson creates a protest. like don said, "It's a joke"

  • what italian words did don rickles say?

  • @ryanbradyjohnblack19 It's a name he made up..Manganzo Mangananzo.

  • "There's no booing! There's no booing!! If there's another outburst, we're gonna let Bob Hope get up and do his jokes!!!!" Don Rickles is THE best!!!

  • When Reagan was president, we had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash. Now that Obama's president, we have no hope and no cash!
