wheres the fun in wearing pads you say, because this is a sport you can hit the crap out of somebody and not get in trouble for it. though you do a play for 3 secs as you say it gets the guys energy to use the maximum amount of their energy to beat the crap out of the guy in front of them
i agree ptofan. it is direspectful. this "form" has no real potential at all. it makes you miss a lot of critical power positions. also extremely dangerous for the athlete and spectators. as a coach and a college thrower i would not allow anyone i taught this form. thats why its banned. doesnt work. dangerous, and riddiculous. not efficient in throwing far. (by far i dont mean someones PR, but well over 15 meters)
The upper body movement is key, there is a lot of potential with the spring of the hips and legs all at once, and the forward momentum carried on from the flip makes it have potential, those are also the power positions. It is dangerous and ridiculous and is possibly the hardest and most awkward one. But you gotta respect those who can do it instead of bashing them.
Does anyone know WHY this technique is forbidden? It will also be outlawed in the NCAA in 2009.
I also use this technique. I don't have a scientific explanation for why this works and my throw is different from this girl's since I reverse at the end instead of throwing off of one leg. It gives me more momentum and makes my whip (reverse) at the end more powerful. It also helps me stay back and get into a better power position.
This isnt technique, this is bullshit. Its an embarassment to the sport. The only people who practice this "technique" are those that dont throw far (i.e.- you) and just want attention.
Yes, it is a total embarrassment to be able to do that within a shot ring. If I wanted attention I would run around naked or post a video of myself throwing. Yes, it is embarrassing to try something new. Change is horrible. Maybe people thought Parry O'Brien looked stupid when he did the rotational throw in the 1950's, but then it worked for him didn't it?
I just want to know if anyone knows why it is being outlawed everywhere.
perpendicular to the ground so that way if the shot is released at the right moment its tangent path with naturally carry it on the perfect trajectory without having to readjust the angle of your throw. so i guess this (from a physics point of view) would make the throw that much easier...but ive tried doing a cartwheel with a 12 pound shot and its hard as shit.
but i wouldnt go so far as to say cartwheeling is bullshit. it has potential
Sorry, but I disagree I am an athlete and I always try to find new ways to do something. When I played soccer we had kids on our team that were great and we would all sit around and try to find new tricks.
It is called relaxing and having fun with your sport. We would put 110% of what we had into it, but for fun and to show off we would do stupid things that others would think were cool.
Where did that come from you ignorant asshole? I also do shot put and discus if you think I am dissing on that. Fucking moron, why don't you grow the fuck up.

soccer's more real than football is. in football ur in pads, where's the fun in that? and also in football u stopping every 3 seconds to huddle and do another play. where as in soccer ur actually running 95% of the time.
soccer and football are both awesome sports; however, soccer is more geared towards endurance, while football is more centered around power. Both traits are equally fundamental to athleticism and both sports are extremely different. So different, that I don't see the point in even comparing them.
its not that bad of an idea of how to shotput. the glide gets the shot moving but in a straight line and then using that momentum the thrower then plants and turns.
with a spin, it is more effective because the energy the shot gains by spinning is greater due to the principle of centripetal acceleration.but the spin is carried out parallel to the ground, so the thrower must angle their throw upwards before release.
what the cartwheel enables you to do is to spin and gain momentum but do it...
Hey yea this is my video.. found it way on the net.. who knows how but i had a lot of trouble throwing this way in hs.. i was a pole vaulter but threw to get points for my team...
This was a fun way to throw and throw far for a little bit of training...
It caused me so much trouble with a certain official because i took his girl out of the running, his argument was that the shot "technically" drops below the shoulder when you are upside down... but who knows! worked for me and I PR!
The rules and regulations of the Field Events, and Olympic and Pan American games state that a DQ is when it:a.Steps out of front of ring after the throw, b.touches the top or sides of the toeboard, c.starts outside the ring, d.hits the sector line/outside of the line, e. does not start on the shoulder or leaves the shoulder before the person throws. Everything she does in the vid is completely legal. Get your facts straight. Just jealous that you can't throw like that.
@Metrios There is no rule against touching the side of the toe board. Unless you are talking about the outside edge. the side facing the circle is fair game.
wat is this garbage!gurl learn how to spin!gurl thats the stupidest thing i ever seen!and keep ur both legs down for double support wehen u realsese ur throwing off of one foot thats not good
NCAA already came out and said you can throw like that anymore plus I doubt it works better then glide or spin

thats pretty impressive but i highly doubt it is effective. but I give her a thumbs up for being able to do that. I know I would never be able to.

why did u spend so much time learning how to do this when u could have been mastering the glad or spin?
svilleTrackrox 3 years ago
Because I do multi-events and the glide and spin are boring and with this I threw about oh 10 feet further
surfbaby2101 3 years ago
how far?
svilleTrackrox 3 years ago
This throw is most definitely legal, but not the most effective means. I did however see a thrower in my district hit 47' 4'' with it.
carnifex1234 3 years ago
its legal, but its stupid, why would anyone throw like that.... she would get so much more distance with a glide or a spin.
