@pyenapple Pleasepleaseplease upload this again!!!!! I need to see this synced up right! It's amazing... and I live in Tucson because I've heard the Call of the West!
call of the west is still one of my favorite records ever. i still have the original CD and artwork from back in the day. i saw ridgeway in palo alto like in '91 or so.
"factory" is still one of the coolest songs ever..if anyone knows of any video for this please let me know.
I was at the Tower Records (now gone) in lower Manhattan a few years back and almost had a stroke when I saw that they released "Tuff Darts" on CD. Maybe one day "Dark Continent" will magically appear on CD somewhere.
Yeah, this is just great. I think Wall of Voodoo is one of those bands that everybody remembers hearing for the first time. Like the very moment you heard this back then, you stopped what you were doing and said, "Whoa....what's this????"
I had that same reaction when I first heard Mexican Radio. It was on one of these commercials for an 80's greatest hits cd. I remember goin' "What?". It wasn't until I heard this song that I had to go get the album.
@longfade I've recently discovered them, a few days ago (I'm more than 20 years buying records) & I thought "Whoa....what's this????" They're really unique!
stanard ridgway--an american original and so underrated. a great performer as well as a great singer. this is, IMO, along with factory, their best song. loved the band so much.
ah, wall of voodoo, they were great, joe nanini was my fav, saw them at bogarts in cincy ohio, wouldnt it have been neat if they could have been touring with captain beefheart, I know he thought they were cool at the time, music from the other side of the fence.
Thanks for posting this. I was at the show in Atlanta. .at the infamous Club 688 . .and did get to hear Joe's "rant". This was 1982. I can still see, and hear Joe yelling, "I used to BE somebody. . " Earlier this summer I saw Stan Ridgway's tour supplementing the 25th year release of Call of the West. I consider this song one of the best ever penned. Incredible lyrics performed brilliantly. I never tire of hearing this. It's just a shame that this band didn't hit it big.
original WOV was one of the best bands ever

Synching is way off but what a kickass clip. Great sound and energy. Can hear the lyrics better than on the original. Monster song.

It was synched up until I uploaded. YouTube occasionally messes up the synching. I'll eventually get around to re-uploading. :)

"Just like the spokes of a wheel who'll spin 'round with the rest?
They'll hear the drums and the brush of steel
and I'll hear the call of the west."
Powerful lyrics! WoW 4ever!

I saw them back in '82 at the 'old' Ritz in NYC. Why hasn't "Dark Continent" been released on CD? I have it on cassette in my basement.

Dark Continent was released on CD back in the early 90's. It's out of print and alittle pricey.

too bad Stan broke up the band.

The band went on after Stan . . . with Andy stepping in as lead vocals, as you should well know.
