awesome!! so glad fo all this metheny footage! and goodrick is the icing on the already incredible cake!! Goodrick's book taught me so much about musical possibility on the guitar! it's nice to hear play with Pat!
though for my taste i have to say the sound of the pick is what brought me out of a five year stretch as a finger stylist! there's just something more 'grabby' and 'snappy' sounding about fingerstyle leads in jazz/ awesome either way!
one of the reasons i love pat's sound is the way he touches his guitar; another one is the way he plays often a little late some note... in the right way; another is the fact that he creates every solo with a melodic taste; may be that he plays this way because he did not want to learn the usual way to play: no licks, no perfection; so there is a lot of beauty; anyway they both are wonderful here
If you turned down the volume and just watched Metheny play, you'd swear he'd sound like crap just by his physical technique. Looks all awkward, like he just started play and yet the contrary is true of his command of the instrument.
@TheCompleteGuitarist I couldn't agree with you more. I'll never forget the first time I actually saw footage of Metheny. I was floored because I expected to see this graceful technique. But it really doesn't matter; its the sound that is important!
@RegularJohn789 You can't really say that because if you asked Mick if he was a better player than Pat Metheny or if you asked Pat the same question they wouldn't say either of them was better, it really isnt about that. its all about what you play
@Ejamieson7654 I was not trying to say he was better although when you use the word mature it is some what implied. They are both monsters and I agree with your comment entirely I just felt that overall Mick was a little more mature with his playing which makes sense because he has been around longer. I mean when they both played for Gary Burton Mick was the one who got all the solos. But enough of this crap this video is BEAUTIFUL. Thank You for posting it!

Mick seems so much more in control of his instrument. He seems way more mature of a player than Pat.

@RegularJohn789 I agree. Popularity does not equal ability, does it?
