I like the original song better and the vision that comes to my mind's eye when I listen to it, but I find the concept you introduce intriguing, if not the execution so much.
I hope you don't mind but i used you in as my Artist research for my university project. I also ended up going to Salford University to study visual arts instead of farnham, i kinda' regret not going but like you said. 'This way we aren't stuck to a strict regime''. peace.
@13Bee1 Hi no we didn't. The only shots of wood being cut are close ups, this was shot on a log found in the woods near by. This log was strapped to the tree for the swinging shots. The shot where it looks like the tree is failing is really just the camera moving, which against the white sky gives the impression the tree is failing as there are no clouds to reference movement by. The final shot is actually a second small log found near by falling, it works like a miniature appearing as the tree.
@jennparr88 if you think about it, nature is art. and you really think a huge, unique, beautiful tree can be just cut down, for art, for any reason? cutting down a tree like that to make "art" is ugly in itself, and the "art" would be made in vain. that's a shame you think like that though :~(
@13Bee1 Yes and it's a shame you can't respect another persons opinion.. destruction can be just as beautiful as nature, death and the loss of something beautiful is poignant and art is all in a persons point of view. So we shall agree to disagree.
@jennparr88 How did i disrespect you or your opinion lovely? you rather attempted to correct me than state your opinion. I know where you are coming from, but to cut down such a beautiful tree, standing on its on might i add, that would have taken hundreds of years to grow, is quite ugly. The idea of its destruction can become art, and you could use that concept to make art, but actually destroying it? it is similar to saying hurting someone or an animal 'for the sake of art'. otherwise agreed ♡
@13Bee1 Why not. If your crazy enough to murder a person and paint in their blood... it can be quite artistic. Even if it's 'ugly' to some, it could possibly be wonderful to others... The tree took 100 years to grow, minutes to die. It's really quite amazing when you think about it. People have different points of view is all I am saying. Sometimes things/people die, get killed, are destroyed with no purpose at all, that is the real shame.

This is absolutely beautiful! very inspirational. You gave me tears, the actor, the editing and film work is absolutely magical. Thank you for this magnificent piece of art.
You've got some good shots in your video, allthough keep in mind you're not making a movie so all your inserts on the hatchet were a little too much. Maybe slow down the pace of your editing? But maybe that's a personal choice. It's a good thing you didn't "kill" the tree, but still you hurt it badly... :-/
What I don't like at all in this video is that this song means so much to me, and cutting a tree is really just the worst thing to go along with that. The song is about letting go of things, and not revenge, violence or whatever you mean with this video.

Hey, thanks for al the great comments on my music video, if you enjoyed it then you may be interested to know that my award winning short 'Who's Afraid of the Water Sprite?' is available on iTune. Check out the trailer in my videos :)
@iamwillmcgregor how much was the camera? I'm saving up for a good video camera because mine is amazing at photography but not so good at capturing video.
This video, its mood and vision are very appealing and touching. The solemn quality and amazing use of light in a simple setting feel like a production Sigur Rös should see, wouldn't it be great to make videos in Iceland?
...continuing....the only thing I would change about the video is the showing of the axe before the climax of the song--and, in turn, the video. I think that doing this would have made the cutting down of the tree a more impacting story. Other than that, I absolutely love this video and feel privileged to be sitting here watching!
Let me begin by saying that I absolutely am IN LOVE with this song/video/etc! It transcends and translates into so many things. For example, the human race taking over and killing our own planet. I feel this video really reaches out to that. I also feel and this not only comments on we, as humans, killing the earth, but also "killing" (which includes putting out) certain people in our lives and certain habits that shouldn't be there and then, on the other hand, our faith. I love this...continues

great job, i love the mood portrayed with all the angles and shots of his hands seizing the handle of the axe. excellent work, worth an add to my playlist...
I'm not one to comment normally because too many people post young half hearted comments on every video they see-usually saying "its amazing" but This struck me- nice opening shots and cuts. slash build up. Everyone- post comments if you have something constructive to give. Not "its amazing" - work more with the landscape- it really tied the beginning together
reminds me so much of the giving tree

I'm not one to comment normally because too many people post young half hearted comments on every video they see-usually saying "its amazing" but This struck me- nice opening shots and cuts. slash build up. Everyone- post comments if you have something constructive to give. Not "its amazing" - work more with the landscape- it really tied the beginning together
