just realised at around 1:50 van points at the ride symbol, and the drummer switches straight on to it, he knows what he wants! I love van the man, his lyrics and just how he can be such a powerful character!
@schuerbuikske ..it is extremely beautiful, of course, but Van is just crazy and unpredictable like that. He dismisses Veedon Fleece which to me is a one of the best albums of all time. He says Brown Eyed GIrl was a "throw-away" track. He just seems like a tortured soul who is never happy.
@sstyblo if you read little below this you see that "TheOyeoye000" writes no diskikes, well some folks can't help it to hit the dislike button when the read that. it's called aspergers syndrome, or maybe tourette syndrome, often with a Obsessive–compulsive disorder, they just can't help it. :)
@schuerbuikske kind of off point but i dont think either of those syndromes would make you hit a dislike button. Asshole-syndrome or general ignorance would be a more fitting description for those tasteless imbeciles.
@ReggieNeeReggie Yes, I actually have this exact video on DVD. It was a music compilation DVD I bought at Best Buy. The name of the DVD is called "Super Hits of the 70's". It's actually got some pretty cool classic performances from a bunch of different artists from the very early 70's. Most act's do two songs but not all. It has about 15 to 20 performances on it.
I'm not a big fan of Van's scatting, but his voice is at its peak here. It's has a brightness and sting of a classical tenor- it just pierces you. Rave on Van, rave on.
At 4:08 he holds his hand back to sinal to the drummer that it's double time! HE runs his bands. Like James Brown. The drummer picked right up on it! Great band and great song. It was down for a while so thank you so much for the posting!
@andy65guitar To be fair, I think the drummer just forgot, because that's what's on the record and what Van Hooke played in the first verse of this song. But either way, Van definitely springs things on his band!
@mydogkanskidrums Yeah I'm not blaming the drummer at all it's just like Van is like James Brown when it comes to his band. He is a perfectionist and this is much better to me than the recorded version! More upbeat and Van on the Sax and a great band! What else could you want? I looked for this for a long time 'cause youtube took it down. Now I am going to save it for good.
I saw van with pete wingfield at knebworth, may have been the same lineup, a totally unforgettable afternoon, doobie & allman brothers struggled to top this performance.
know why pete van hooke has such a smile on his face???? Cause he's playing with an f-ing LEGEND! Glad I finally found this version on youtube...awesome!
