I love this movie simply because I was the train driver in it with my mate John Gilberthorpe. I want to download this tune so i can put it to the photos and video clips I have of my own and post it on Youtube. Any idea how I can download this soundtrack?? Thanks
I remember seeing this movie at a bar in a remote part of Costa Rica that showed movies once a week on Laserdisc. There was no moon that night and no streetlights for my 2-mile walk back to my bungalo, all I had was my little maglite ans I have seldom felt so frightened as I did on that long dark walk home...and there aren't even any lions IN Costa Rica LOL
One of my fav childhood memories is watching this movie with my dad (which was frequently lol). No movie has created the same dread for me that this one did. every time my dad asked if I wanted to watch it I begged him not to, but then couldn't help myseld when he insisted xD
One of my all time favorite movies. I still need to make a trip to Chicago to see the brothers. I have wanted to go since I was a little girl to see these two, because what would be better than facing your fear?
@lococoyote1992 I have seen them in Chicago many times. They were made into rugs for a time before they were stuffed so they're smaller than they were originally. Very cool movie!
best film val kilmer has been in just by "Heat" which is shit hot.tom wilkinson plays his role to perfection.allround great flick.music is eiriy but warming.
I remember watching this movie, it was the best!!! :)) I loved the soundtrack and hummed it to myself when I first visited Africa. thanks for posting.
Where did you get this soundtrack?? I was the train driver in this movie and am looking for the soundtrack to put with a few photos I took during the making and then I can post them on Youtube. Thanks
I saw this at the cinema on big screen. Chilling story if ever caught up in that situation must have been a bitch to hunt down those bloody thirsty unstoppable beasts dead in their tracks. The ending was quiet climatic with Jerry Goldsmith score and academy award best sound effects editing mixed recoded and released in DOLB STEREO SR-D.
I saw the two lions at the Field Museum in Chicago. They were unusual in that they had no manes. BTW Colonel Patterson went on to lead the Jewish Brigade in WW1.
the first time I watched this movie my sandwich and a cup of tea remained untouched :D:D the only thing I was capable of doing was watching this thrilling movie (scary as hell too)
This movie is so underrated. I loved it back in the day and still do.
I remember how the music gave me chills the first time I watched it. With more traditional, classic-type music it would have been just another victorian travel diary, where the great white hunter comes and saves the day with his boom-boom gun. The tribal choir and the drums give you a feeling of the entire African landscape, as the natives see it.
without a doubt one of the most underrated movies ever! Should have had more plaudits than it got. Great soundtrack. Great movie. Will always one of my favourites!
One of the best and most overlooked moives made in the last 20 years, among other things let down by one of the most inept and idiotic trailers ever made for a major movie (Look at it, you REALLY don't want to use money to see the movie after seeing that abortion)
The Death in the Long grass, by Peter Capstick. These are the Lions of Tasvo, these to a degree really happened. But have you ever been to africa, what a land indeed..
definelty one of the best movies of all time, and one of the best sountracks of all time, love the theme tune, and really ENJOY THE CULTURAL diversity shown in the movie, just phenonmenal movie,
pity that it is historically accurate in portrayal of the true attitude and nature of the british empire's rulers, who cared nothing for bringing different cultures together except to exploit them as labour.
@ColbertNation88 the Colonel Patterson was nearly eaten twice by the lions, only about 35-40 railworkers were killed but they also got local villagers plus any tribes that hunted them. the lions also ate a couple hunters that were hired to kill them like remington, and the lion den with all the bones IS actually real found by Patterson himself... like the movie says "Even the most incredible parts of the story are true." The real Ghost and Darkness
@ColbertNation88 Actually, Remington was a made up character if I remember, but everything preceding with Colonel Patterson was true, as well as the circumstances he endured to eventually kill the lions.

so true... the fact that these events actually took place makes the film even more shocking... and unlike all those ridiculous horror films made for teenagers (which are all more or less the same), this one is made to be watched by adults
Also, it captures the spirit of Africa very well... at least in the way it used to be back in the days of the British Empire
I love Jerry Goldsmith's music, he is truly a legend to me, he did some of the music for the "Mummy," and the "13th Warrior." Great sountrack that fit's with a great told movie.
Can you someone tell me where to find similar songs like this? I like these african songs and how the shaman (or whoever it is) sing. If you can tell me what the style exactly is, I would be glad. Sorry for my English.
Pretty good movie, but I love the music tons. Also I saw the real Tsavo lions from the true story. They're kept on display at the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History. A little anticlimactic when you see them though: their don't have huge flowing manes.

@robertrth2 Not really unusual, since the male lions of the Tsavo region are generally maneless.
They are also much more aggressive than their cousins.

It actually happened, there wasnt a guy named remington but hundreds actually here dragged off and eaten until the colonel killed them.
Unlike in the movie the lions were actually maneless.
