Texan born and raised. I didn't know how good I had it until I joined the military and left The State. I'm currently a hostage to a job in Virginia... can't wait to get back home. This state thinks they have history and a sense of pride... It's nothing compared to what I share with my fellow Texans!
Don't worry everyone, "Gark50" is the way he is either because 1) he's a complete dumbass who doesn't know shit from shinola, 2) pond scum is more intelligent than he is, 3) he's just jealous that he couldn't be blessed with being born a native Texan, or 4) never mind, he's just a dumbass. There are only two type of people in the world, those who have the sense to realize how great Texas is, and those who are either to ignorant or jealous to admit the fact.
The pride comes from how Texas won it's indepedence. From the Alamo to the Battle of San Jacinto,General Sam Houston, the original Texas Rangers kickin Comanchee ass, etc.
Is it true that Brazilian Jui-Jitsu is outlawed in Texas but every orther Martial Art as well as every type of firearm and weaponry is considered to be perfectly lagitamate by Texas Law( with the exceptions of modern military weapons of course)? I heard that you guys outlawed it because it was used in 85% off unarmed assults in the past year in the State.
I was born and raised in Texas. When I got my first car I also got a bad case of wanderlust. I've been up and down the west coast, up and down the east coast. Yep, I've been in Key West and Seattle. Bangor, ME to San Diego. All I can say is I will live in Texas the rest of my life. True Texans always come back!
I like this video so much, because I had the chance to emigrate to this country, but now the chance is like zero since four years. And now....I sit down on my chair in Germany.....
TO ALL IGNORANT PEOPLE OF THE 49 STATES NOT AS GOOD AS TEXAS
Just because some people like to wear boots, cowboy hats, and big belt buckles, that does not make everyone in Texas a cowboy or redneck. That just means we like to wear boots, cowboy hats, and big belt buckles. Enough Said!
You couldn't pay me enough to visit Texas. Nothing but a bunch of inbred beer guzzling rednecks and ignoramuses. Little China, they pay most workers below minimum wage and give them no health insurance. Texas can sink into the gulf for all I care. Hopefully, the Mexicans will soon take Texas back and save that sorry ass state.
@Gark50 Ignorant koolaide drinker. An education goes a long way, as does reading facts. If your comments are true, then why does Texas lead the US in economic recovery? Those 'inbred beer guzzling rednecks and ignoramuses' must know something you don't. Makes them smarter than you, too.
@Gark50 Yep...... probably best for you to NOT visit Texas........ you'd just get your ass whipped....... that's what your real fear is anyway, right?
O.K., here are more positives I'll will admit: Willie Nelson, progressive Austin, sexy women that look like Jessica Simpson, friendly people( but some of that southern charm is phony), Kinky Friedman, Mexican food, Bill Moyers, Stevie Ray Vaughn etc... The thing is, I think Texans spend TOO MUCH time vocalizing their pride in their state. I think this excessive pride thing masks insecurites. I come from a nation-state as well, California but I don't spend time bragging to people from other
Yet I think Texas has a lot of negatives as well: hot and/or humid much of the year, excessive use of the death penalty, excessive gun culture, too much flat, dry, scrubby ranchland, redneck cowboy/rancher and oil worker culture, megachurches and Bible thumpers, no natural lakes accept Caddo Lake, low educations levels compared to other states, George W. Bush AND Rick Perry, the Dallas Cowboys, poor safety regulations record( doesn't at least one oil refinery blowup each year in Houston), etc...
I'm trying to understand this whole Texas mystique thing. I have relatives in the San Antonio area and have been there before. I think from my experiences and reading about Texas that it's overrated. I mean there is some interesting history( the Alamo, Texas Rangers-not the baseball team,Spanish culture, diverse immigrant groups settling the land, etc) and some pretty scenery here and there( Big Bend Country, Palo Duro Canyon, the Hill Country, Padre Island, Big Thicket etc...)
Im born and raised in texas and to me there are no fucking mexicans no blacks whites we are all texans so pull the racial profiling out of your asses.
@TexasStupid there is no word that can describe your stupidity, none! Mexicans are part of this states long history and Mexicans Texans are very proud and glad to be part of the Lone Star State. Why don't you worry about your own state you jack ass!

LONG LIVE TEXAS!!! DON'T MESS WITH US, EVERYONE ELSE!!!

@zulok1337 LA is the second biggest city in the U.S. and 11th in the World, has beautiful weather, filled with many things to do, the beach, the mountains, or the desert, or drive for a while and there's Vegas. California actually invents stuff that changed the world Apple, HP, Twitter, Intel, YouTube, MySpace, the Gap, eBay. texas is big and does not have to do anything it does for itself ,texas is the heart of the us dallas is the heart of tx ,,revolution ,,revelations, god bless texas
i lived in Dallas for 3 years. Texans definately have state pride. i enjoyed my few years there and I always felt like I was at home. a little bit of Texas went with me when I left especially the know how to make great bbq.
moved to texas a few months ago. still haven't figured out how people here can deal with the cognitive dissonance of pretending to be patriotic and claiming that texas would be better off if they seceded. then again, the state ranks near last in public education. yee haw!
Born and raised in Texas, but I never understood the praise of wide open land. In Texas all the land is private. I live in Nevada now and the land is open and free to the public, pull off the highway and take the dirt road to wherever you want. I wish we had that in Texas. The closest I can ever get to that is hanging around my brother in law's ranch, but it's not the wide open spaces you have in the rest of the south west.
why do people think its a desert land and cowboys every were texas is not all like thet there is probably no cowboys realy just the dallas cowboys lol but pp; think it`s dry boring and stupid but 85% of thoes ppl have never been to teas seen texas they just think were cowboys riding bulls and stuff but no we all don`t think ppl don`t judge a book by it`s cover !
I am from Del Rio and really miss being able to "cross over the border for some cultural exchange" when I go back. Back in the day all you had to say was that you were an American Citizen now you have to have a passport.
Guys, texas is rural AND urban. New York is mainly urban and Montana is mainly rural. Well, Texas is both. From urban Houston, San Antonio, Austin, DFW, to rural Falfurrias, Laredo, El Paso you have it all and you can maintain it in a HUGE area of land. It's home to millions of people, and mostly, it's HOME. <3
Texas is not A PLACE it's a lot of very different PLACES. Distance from Brownsville to OK border is greater than distance New York City to Chicago........and it's a great place to visit and some of the places are great places to live

thank you, thank you. very well put together. I am a proud native Texan and would never live anywhere else. All of the USA is wonderful, but Texas is a world unto her own.
All of these negative responses are actually silly. I was born, raised and live in Texas and I love the fact that "outsiders" spend the time to write 1,000 word responses on "Why Texas Sucks?" or create a user name just to write a dozen negative responses...yes, "TexasStupid", I'm referring to you.
The one thing that pisses everyone off is that Texans have an unyielding pride. We aren't saying we're perfect; but, at least we can be so bold as to create such controversy. It's great! ;)
I'm always amazed at how people like you can become so pathetic - hating there own country and race, and fearing the notion of individualism.'
Yeah, I saw your featured video: "The West Is BAD, HURR DURR!!!"
Never mind the fact that communist Russia and China killed miillions upon millions of their own citizens and others. Never mind the fact that the U.S. gives tons of charity to worthless nigger shitholes like Haiti.
Go look up the "facts" like justinloyal tells you! Look a here Texas! Google says this and almanac says that! Rural vs urban. He mentioned NY. Is that how you want to be? Loaded with diversity, culture, crime, pollution and has no protection whatsoever against invasion because the overcrowded fools are too busy bickering amongst each other to avoid mass islamic invasion. Texas is getting it mostly from the mexicans. Dont worry they'll kill you off when it suits them. Keep crankin out the babies!
I mention that somebody's pointing a gun to your head. You say "so what?" I say "if he pulls the trigger, you're dead." You say, he aint pulled the trigger yet, i aint movin!" Same with population growth. Just sit on the tracks till the train is too close to you for you to get out of the way. It aint here yet! So stay where you are till it comes. And it all could have been avoided. Like CA and NM. Keep going keep growing. Like china and india. Mass population mass disease, mass poverty. Stupid.
California and new mexico used to brag about their wide open spaces and richness of rescources. So what did they do? They invited mass immigration and advertised. Well now California and New Mexico got what they asked for. And so will you, Texas. STUPID!
Stupid people brag about their riches to attract the poor, angry, greedy criminals. Hurr Durr! We have plenty of timber and we have wind and solar and uranium so let's increase the population like everywhere else on earth that increased the population till we too have overcrowding, disease mass poverty and squalor because if we dont have it now, why not do what everybody else has done and increase the population till we're just like they are! Stupid.
More people = more pollution, more congestion, poverty squalor, street people,. more demand on food clothing shelter roads, repair, gas, water,. electric, phone. As of NOW you are drinking filtered sewage whether from tap or bottle, idiots. You love them big open spaces just like every other part of the world loved theirs and just like them you're hell bent on populating it up for no reason at all because you're STUPID. Go sit in the traffic.. Go pick walmart bags out of your fence. Stupid.
You must be from NY or CA, because it's clear you're talking out of your ASS! Why even waste time with the facts? I'd refer you to the Texas Almanac, but there's not enough room to explain "Almanac". Go to Google & search "Texas Population Dynamics; Rural vs. Urban, 1950-2000". You are flat out WRONG. The rural population is continuing to drop, while more & more Texans reside in Urban areas.
Your insecurity is PROJECTING right across your large, slopping forehead.
Your greedy local govts tell you that more people bring in more money! More people bring in more money for your govt in the form of fees and levies and taxes. They dont give a DAMN about your land and you're stupid enough to buy their long horn bullcrap. I will tell you EXACTLY what increasing the population is going to do. More immigrants stealing welfare, more children, more welfare. More roads and repair, and YOU pay for it idiots. More congestion everywhere. Idiots.
Plenty of wide open space for you to "develop" and populate and trash all up. And you will. And that's a promise. What you idiots dont do with your fool population growth and your "big families" you will get from mexicans mass breeding to outpopulate YOU and get more benefits that you idiots pay for with your tax money while they game your system right under your noses. And migration because you keep bragging you're the best state. So they come here to take from you.
What makes it "better" than the rest of the country? Aside from our unique history, of which I'm sure you could use a refresher, consider why you are living in Texas. Economic Opportunity & Prosperity, No State Income Tax, Lowest Corporate Tax Rate, Lowest Unemployment Rate, 97% Private Ownership, Cost of Living, 3 of the 10 largest US cities, the only Space, Sea, & Land Grant Research Institution in the US (Texas A&M University), oh & I hear people just adore Austin, too.
Not to mention the actual physical characteristics, ie Natural Resources & rare earth minerals. Along with Hydrocarbons there are; sustainable Renewable Natural Resources (Timber, Graze, Wildlife, Fisheries), Inexhuastable Resources (wind, solar, & hydro), & Fissionable Materials (Uranium & Plutonium). But more importantly, a group of people who invest money & time into producing, transporting, developing, & refining our resources into products & services you can bitch about.
@justinloyal Go on with all your "facts." Because the real facts are that texas is more overcrowded every day and more polluted. The population is increasing. Everything that you mentioned here is endangered and being squandered. Everyplace on earth says there's always "more" so they keep going till there is no "more." Renewable and inexhaustable really? Those rescources used to be everywhere on earth. i wonder where they went?
LMAO...why is everyone fighting about liking Texas or hating it? Or saying that the US needs Texas, not vice versa?! Dont make Texas sound so great or else people will start moving down here! And dont use Billy Bobs as a reference point...every tourist in the country has stopped there. Try Gruene Hall...its heritage. And one last idea...Texas DOES need the US...I like being better than every other state.
Seems as if people are jealous of how Texans have pride. Well they need to grow up. Texas is one of my favorite places in the world. Texas is its own country! Truth is the USA needs Texas more than Texas needs the USA. If stuff ever hits the fan I'm going to Texas! There they have great gun laws!!!
@airforceivey THANK YOU! you should come here now! lol.. but dont go to too big of cities, go to more of country areas.. buy a lot of land.. lol (if you live in the country you can shoot more freely than in a city. Also you can hunt deer, they have great meat, and dont shoot the head you need that as a trophy haha now ur becoming a Texan! lol) if you have a lot of land your children (depending on how old you and they are, have a lot of land for them to play) the downside is how far stores are..
LOL sitting all pretty behind your PC Silly little boy...why don't you come on down here and say that at Billy Bobs in Ft worth...I'm sure they will LOOOVVVEEE you!
yeah right into the hospital.
OHHH WAIT that 's right...you're scared...run along little boy
Go ye forth to Alpine, Tx and Big Bend country and you'll see more beauty than you could ever imagine and I believe it looks exactly like it did in the 1880's. Take a ride.
Why are people in texas like so proud to be from texas ive bin to Los angeles california, Denver colorado, boston Masachusets and nobody is like "Wow i sure am glad to be From L.A" or is like "Wow Living in the City of Denver sure is great" or any thing like that im from New York and people arent like that........i guess its a red neck thing lol
@GeorgiaBoii32 well i rather be a yankee than to be part of a state that still thinks like if it was the 1800s and are full of racist ass holes that think homosexuality is some thing evil lol i rather live over here up north where where every one is up to date with the rest of the world and cares about our enviorment than sum state that drives big ass trucks poluting the air thinking they are soo macho where they still fly the confedericy flag like its somthing to be proud of, im not a hippe
@29twisted I was born & raised in Chicago & moved to Texas at the age of 20. Texas has to be the friendliest state in the country. Racist?LOL I'm from Latin decent & I have experienced racism only in the North & East coast. Fact! Texas feeds the rest of the country and including education!;)I have met the smartest people in Texas. Maybe you are just hating, guy. I'm a Yankee, but I consider myself a 100% TEXAN! The place that educated me and accepted me! Cowboy fan too!:)
@GeorgiaBoii32 I don't like your kind either! WTF are you talking about? Now go back to your pickup truck and enjoy your 350 you son of bitch! ;) .. Douch..

moved to texas a few months ago. still haven't figured out how people here can deal with the cognitive dissonance of pretending to be patriotic and claiming that texas would be better off if they seceded. then again, the state ranks near last in public education.

For you Texas haters. try reading a reputable source (Money Magazine, Forbes). Texas is home to:
*nation's 3 fastest growing major cities (Houston, Austin, San Antonio)
*#1 nation's "must-see suburb" (The Woodlands)
*#1 safest city in the nation (Plano)
*#1 wealthiest small town (Westlake)
*#1 major city for shopping (Houston)
*3 of the most prominent public universities (Rice, Texas, Texas A&M)
*#1 business-friendly state

All of these negative responses are actually silly. I was born, raised and live in Texas and I love the fact that "outsiders" spend the time to write 1,000 word responses on "Why Texas Sucks?" or create a user name just to write a dozen negative responses...yes, "TexasStupid", I'm referring to you.
The one thing that pisses everyone off is that Texans have an unyielding pride. We aren't saying we're perfect; but, at least we can be so bold as to create such controversy. It's great! ;)

TexasStupid 1 year ago
I mention that somebody's pointing a gun to your head. You say "so what?" I say "if he pulls the trigger, you're dead." You say, he aint pulled the trigger yet, i aint movin!" Same with population growth. Just sit on the tracks till the train is too close to you for you to get out of the way. It aint here yet! So stay where you are till it comes. And it all could have been avoided. Like CA and NM. Keep going keep growing. Like china and india. Mass population mass disease, mass poverty. Stupid.
TexasStupid 1 year ago
California and new mexico used to brag about their wide open spaces and richness of rescources. So what did they do? They invited mass immigration and advertised. Well now California and New Mexico got what they asked for. And so will you, Texas. STUPID!
TexasStupid 1 year ago
Stupid people brag about their riches to attract the poor, angry, greedy criminals. Hurr Durr! We have plenty of timber and we have wind and solar and uranium so let's increase the population like everywhere else on earth that increased the population till we too have overcrowding, disease mass poverty and squalor because if we dont have it now, why not do what everybody else has done and increase the population till we're just like they are! Stupid.
TexasStupid 1 year ago
More people = more pollution, more congestion, poverty squalor, street people,. more demand on food clothing shelter roads, repair, gas, water,. electric, phone. As of NOW you are drinking filtered sewage whether from tap or bottle, idiots. You love them big open spaces just like every other part of the world loved theirs and just like them you're hell bent on populating it up for no reason at all because you're STUPID. Go sit in the traffic.. Go pick walmart bags out of your fence. Stupid.
TexasStupid 1 year ago
@TexasStupid
Your insecurity is PROJECTING right across your large, slopping forehead.
justinloyal 1 year ago
Your greedy local govts tell you that more people bring in more money! More people bring in more money for your govt in the form of fees and levies and taxes. They dont give a DAMN about your land and you're stupid enough to buy their long horn bullcrap. I will tell you EXACTLY what increasing the population is going to do. More immigrants stealing welfare, more children, more welfare. More roads and repair, and YOU pay for it idiots. More congestion everywhere. Idiots.
TexasStupid 1 year ago
Plenty of wide open space for you to "develop" and populate and trash all up. And you will. And that's a promise. What you idiots dont do with your fool population growth and your "big families" you will get from mexicans mass breeding to outpopulate YOU and get more benefits that you idiots pay for with your tax money while they game your system right under your noses. And migration because you keep bragging you're the best state. So they come here to take from you.
TexasStupid 1 year ago
God...I live in Dallas Texas, and while the place is great, the people suck. Trust me, there are better places out there.
And even if you do live in a part of Texas that's better, what's so great about it? Rather, what makes it better than the rest of the country?
siesiek123 1 year ago
@siesiek123
What makes it "better" than the rest of the country? Aside from our unique history, of which I'm sure you could use a refresher, consider why you are living in Texas. Economic Opportunity & Prosperity, No State Income Tax, Lowest Corporate Tax Rate, Lowest Unemployment Rate, 97% Private Ownership, Cost of Living, 3 of the 10 largest US cities, the only Space, Sea, & Land Grant Research Institution in the US (Texas A&M University), oh & I hear people just adore Austin, too.
justinloyal 1 year ago
Not to mention the actual physical characteristics, ie Natural Resources & rare earth minerals. Along with Hydrocarbons there are; sustainable Renewable Natural Resources (Timber, Graze, Wildlife, Fisheries), Inexhuastable Resources (wind, solar, & hydro), & Fissionable Materials (Uranium & Plutonium). But more importantly, a group of people who invest money & time into producing, transporting, developing, & refining our resources into products & services you can bitch about.
justinloyal 1 year ago
