theres alot a things happen inside the tower,when the front of the boom is in place,,a person will insert the pin(you can seee the pin hole)and when the main frame is in placed on the tower,,another person will locked the machine(you can see the hook)thats why they install steps inside the tower

When the tanks ran out, the emergency hydraulic fluid barriers would shut the valves, preventing the release of hydraulic fluid into the tubes, and keep the hydraulic pistons locked in position. He may not be grounded, he would be closer.

I agree, that is a skilled operator who trusts the ability of the equipment. And that is an amazingly powerful machine. But the real hero is that tower. the engineering and detail of that thing boggles the mind. I can't imagine how much that had to cost.
