  • if that was an adult scorpion, the praying mantis' limbs would be gone

  • so if this was an african mantis, did it blow a vuvuzela for its victory lol

  • I'll chew on you eyeballs!

  • hey man ill buy that mantis from u......dont ge mad about the offer its just always been my dream to hve a blck mantis, ive already owned around 100mntises so im experienced please reply!!!!!!

  • okay i posted a comment asking what kind of mantis that was....no sht its an africn but i mean details, class seriosly i never knew there were bblack mantids nd i always wanted one and now iknow they exist but i must know exactly wht type of mantis that is so no smart asses!!!!!!!!

  • 0:35 stalker face

  • All these comments about an African scorpion owning a mantis is false un less we see this happen we don't know if it could really ocur plus a fully grown mantis can get 12 inches long far bigger than an emporer scorpoin(I know I spelled that wrong) just saying... Go mantis

  • The mantis really is a funny but beautiful creature =]

  • Go, mantis!

  • dang!!!...mantis would probably eat any thing!!

  • it blended in nice

  • I seriously got HUNGRY of whatching this.. Really...

  • Why not a Big Emperor Scorpion?

  • i love mantis' but their eyes and that freakin dot creeps me out.

can you imagine getting eaten by a one of those your size

  • @XionicAlex

If 1 did acctualy grap us if it was our size would easly escape cos we are smart.. we bad just rip its eyes out and it will soon let go

  • @AVP181 no way. u think that since humans are smarter than other species that it makes us superior to any and every species? hell no, if a mantis was out size and it grabbed us, we'd be screwes, and if u didn manage 2 escape, you would be mutilated and bloody

  • @AVP181 Then why do people get mulled by dogs, or by wild animals?

  • @xinic5

Because humans dont have a technuqe.. unlick mantis, fast springing claws, we have hands, when dog jumps we could easly wrap hands around neck, squeese, with a good grip it be dead in 10 seconds :)

  • @AVP181 Unless yor refering to a muscular guy, it would be rather hard for an average size person to hold a good grip on a dogs neck while it is wringlying it's head around trying to maul you. escpically if it is a big pit bull.

  • praying mantis is wierd bitches

  • Comment removed

  • gross but cool!

  • I just love when mine does that to little kittens...

  • What a way to go. RIP scorpion

  • That scorpion was like. "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?!!" Then he died

  • @jubilantjam

I'd like to see that mantis try that with a full grown emperor scorpion. It'll get owned horribly. Emperor scorpions get up to 8 inches long. I like how they put a full grown mantis against a baby scorpion and pretend like that's how it would go every time.

  • Haha no shit Sherlock.

  • @diimoxy just like the other video they have here with a giant emperor scorpion and a tiny mantis, the mantis had no chance

  • yea i would love to see it even try that on my asian forest scorpion it wouldnt even be funny

  • @diimoxy

Narrator emphasizes "SMALL" scorpion leaving its hiding place.

    Title states "Small" scorpion.

    Description says "small" scorpion

small (adj): Being below the average in size or magnitude (Am. Heritage Dictionary)

Because of this information, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that most scorpions are larger than this one & no one is trying to imply that this is how it goes all the time

...and that you're just sore that scorpions are not always the king of the hill

  • @diimoxy And there is a video on Youtube that shows a praying mantis being eating by a scorpian.

  • oooh meats live

  • fuck i had no idea mantises can be that big and quick

  • Its just a really diddy scorpion but some mantis's are pretty big!

  • Scorpion: *walks on the daily routine*

    Mantis: *woosh, snatches scorpion off*

Scorpion: Gaahh! Hey! let go of me, oww! that hurts, dont eat me D:<

    Mantis: nomnomnomnom...

     R.I.P. Scorpion...

  • Cool. This is the kind of stuff I beat off to.

  • That is some crazy shit !! In this case though, size does matter!!

  • ownt

  • mantids rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow pretty interesting

  • its so neat how they have like teeny little finger things on their mouths to hold the food!

  • the scary thing about mantises tough is that they start devouring their for BEFORE killing it, wow im glad its just an insect and not some giant predator

  • @Ramonerdna yeah unlike other insects they thier pray stays gripped into thier razor sharp claws while being eaten until they slowly die poor insects T_T

  • @POKOHelba and also pull it into thier mouth

  • tasts like chicken

  • I hate scorpions. I prefer mantis instead

  • Comment removed

  • I swear the prey always walks towards the mantis seriously why didn't it just go round

  • Well the mantis is a good hunter and can remain still for a long time and the prey/preditor can't see them. Obviously the scorpion didn't see the mantis....well the mantis did look pretty camoflaged

  • Very smart way for the mantis to grab the scorpion....in a way so that the scorpion can't nip or sting the mantis.

    GO THE MANTIS!!!!!!!

  • African Mantis: ...Wut?! oh gawd.., s'fewd? walking fewd?? OH EHM GEE! *Stares intently* *SNAG* OM NOM NOM BIZNOTCH.

Mantis = Thee COOLEST insect, ever. They're just almighty. :D

  • I have a mantis its just a baby. i'm not shure wut species it is but i don't think it will get that big

  • Not only do I think it's an awesome hunter, but it's face is kinda cute!

  • the scoripion took a slow,painful death

  • really amazing camera shots i dont understand why the scorpion did not kill the mantid as they say the smaller the scorpion the more punch they can pack.lol althouht i do agree with ss4reborn that mantis is a beast lol

  • The way the mantis grabbed the scorpion...he couldn't sting or nip the mantis

  • Mantis...the supreme insect

  • oh shit. i always thought mantis were nice. O.o

  • i had an african mantis, awesome hunter

  • Wouah, it's very voracious eating scorpions on the shell like that!

  • eating it alive o_O

    Thats a big ass mantis

  • owned...

  • fucking mantis that is one fucking beast

  • nice!

  • no wthis shows what amantis is really capable of, instead of "arena fights" this is the mantis in a natural habitat...

  • yeah dude

  • what kind of mantis is this?

  • fuck me.. mantis is hardcore!

  • ya eat that basterd!

  • ive had a mantis as a pet and seen them eat...but do they like spear their prey with their arm dagger swordlike things?

  • The coloration of the mantis reminds me of Kamen Rider Black RX.

  • thats crazy

  • The colouration on this one looks positively evil.

    Great video.

  • thnx for the vid

    5/5

  • damn guys read the title. it didnt say mantis vs scorpion did it? it says the mantis makes an "easy snack" out of a "small scorpion"

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • actually i said that i was on my little brothers account.

  • idk what to think of this video. i had 2 scorpions and now i have a praying mantis! idk who to root for lol

  • African Emperor scorpions pwn the mantis.

  • Damn, the scorpion was like half eaten and still struggling :X

  • its a fucking 1 -2 cm scorp

  • if you had a fair fight, the scorpion would of killed that motherfucker easily

  • if it would have been a fair fight the scorpion would have no armor. Its never fair in the wild.

  • Not only does the Mantis not care about a "fair fight", it has no awareness of even the concept of competition. It simply knows that it must eat to survive. The same thing goes for the scorpion. To anthropomorphize these amazing animals instead of appreciating them for their unique attributes demonstrates a sad and profound lack of understanding and respect for the world around us as well as the creatures with which we share it.

  • (response to Rennpanzer) Honestly, I think you're too intelligent to be posting comments here.. leave this message board for the more simple minded people.. ha ha.

Very eloquently stated Rennpanzer! Thanks for posting!!!

  • You might be right. I just read what I'd written and I have no idea what the hell it means ;-P

  • @Rennpanzer How do you know it isn't aware of the concept of competition? Maybe he/she loves pwning n00b scorpians......o_O

  • @Rennpanzer i agree but my mind is confounded about this particular secies of mntis what is it may i ask?lol im just kidding wow i soundedgay but seriously wut typeof mantis isthat?

  • @superbadkneegrow it says it in the description. an african mantis

  • great but is a very small scorpion

  • OWNED

  • lol, 1 cm's scorps..

  • lol, 1 cm's scorps..

  • i like bugs

  • is anyone aware that mantis ate the ass first...

  • (rspnse to sirleeroy1) good observation. Mantids often go aftr the weapons first. I've seen many times where wasps would sting the mantis- then the mantis would go right aftr the stingr. The scorpion tried to fight bck wth its stingr so the mantis ate the stingr first. Same thing when crckets start kcking the mantis- the mantis would start feeding on the legs.

  • looks alien

  • The scorpion's walking around like "yeah I'm cool, what now?"

the mantis is like "this now, fool"

    scorpion: "....crap"

  • Yum Yum :)

  • GLAD WE HUMANS ARE NOT BUGS :)

  • mantis is an ice cold killa blud he give bare jooks to all animals even elephants i saw it. he fucked the elephant up

  • this made they scorpion look big at start then it was really small....lame

  • (response to TomatoXD).. When it first showed the scorpion, the narrator says "..not even when a SMALL scorpion leaves its hiding place" & my description says "..crushes and devours SMALL scorpion".. So what part of "SMALL" did you not understand???

  • this would be cooler if they were the same size

  • Scorpion would win no contest.

Only Cent's and those hard shelled Beetles seem to phase scorpions.

  • The mantis above wouldn't attmpt a scorp of equal sze..it would watch the scorp walk by. A strongr spcies may or may not attmpt an equal-sze scorp. If it does, the mantis would likely lift the scorp off the ground takn away its leverage. The scorp could lose, escape, or still win..but it WILL BE A CONTEST..no easy victory. I had an Afrcn Mntis desperately goin for my FatTail (equal sze) thru the glass..apparently crazy enuf to go for it. I was tempted to let em go at it..would've been interestn.

  • Where did you get a Fat tail?

I've been looking for one, but they're like 40 each -_-

  • It was a long time ago but I think it was from Glades Herp. Parabuthus transvaalicus..if you want it bad enough, you gotta spend that money. It was actually my favorite scorpion. I think it's worth it..gives variety to your scorpion collection.

  • Yeah, I will one day.

Mantids are cool too, but they die easily.

  • I highly recommend FatTail scorpions.. beautiful creatures.. good contrast to Emperor scorpions. Yes, a lot of mantids die easily in a fight- but not all (unless you're referring to their naturally short life span).

  • Yeah, I was referring tot eh lifespan. I don't really fight my inverts.(I'm not rich enough to afford 20 dollar food.

Oh, and I got a Fat tail on Saturday at an expo. ;)

  • try getting a giant centipede.. they get around 10 inches long depending on wich kind you get.. they can eat tarantulas, mice, bats, lizards and maybe even a scorpion.. there bad motherfuckes

  • I bought one like 2 weeks ago.

Along with another scorpion, check out my videos.

  • centipede>all losers

  • match this mantis up with a large African yellow fat-tailed scorpion and the outcome would look quite different.

  • Are you a fucking dumbass this video is obviously from T.V or something, not this guy actually getting a mantis and scorpion and making them fight.

  • OK - you are right but I am not impressed with your language

  • this praying mantis is a bitch when it goes up against an empoere scorpion

  • look at him preen himself

  • well holy shit that was like the smallest scorpion ever i would be disappointed if the mantis didnt eat that thing..

  • The mantis was eating the scorpion while it was still alive. That would really suck.

  • MANTIS RULES

  • i watched another video but an even bigger scorp ate a mantis . i bet this mantis would win against that scorp.

  • good response to other video, that mantis in other vid had no chance in the environment like a aquarium opposed to a thorn bush

  • hmmm ive got an hirodula hembrancea pet in my ferm plant =)

  • Praying Mantis rulz! The nicest animal in the world, isn't it?:)

  • Absolutely airline91!

  • this is how animals should die!!!makin living things kill each other is unatural and bullshit

  • Oh soo cute mantis!

  • BLOODY HELL!!! SCORPION IS FUCKED XD

  • nice

  • i just watched a bigger scorpion totally destroy a mantis

  • Yeah, I meant for this video to be a response to the video you saw with the Emperor scorpion crushing the mantis, but for some reason the "Post a video response" wasn't working. Nature is often reversible my friend! Size is a major factor.

  • that and strength. like if the mantis was starving but the scorpion wasnt then the scorpion would win

  • yeah, strngth is a factor, bt size comes 1st. In the othr vid, it didnt mattr how weak the scorp ws or how aggrssve the mntis ws, the mntis ws NOT going to win-no mattr wht. The scorp ws prbably 12X the wght of the mntis evn though it appears only 5X bggr. In ths vid, the mntis ws no more thn 4 times biggr thn the scorp. If the same sze, then physicl health is a fctor. In the wld, the mntis hs 'sight' fctor- it cn eithr avoid the scorp (if too big) or attck. The scorp has no say in it.

  • i agree. so u can say that strengh, size, and health all have to factor in during a battle. in different orders of course but still all are included

  • Also, I'm glad you said 'strength' when most people would say 'venom'. I've said earlier on this dsscussn board that venom is rarely a factor in these fights. If you look at the crazy Japnse pitfights from ciuekmskiu, they bit & stung like crazy but to no avail. Only in 1 fght the FTScorp seemngly klld the spidr wth 1 sting, bt that looked like the end of the fght- the spidr seemd to be dying already & prbably took 50 stings. Nvrtheless, imprssve display by the FTScorp.

  • of course you have to factor in the type of scorpion. i can tell the scorpion in this particular hunt was not poisonous because it had a skinny tale and big claws. meaning it depended more on its claws than its tail

  • Yeah, species is a huge factor. Scorps wth big claws are usually stronger & have a better chance against mantids, but this particular scorp was still too small. A more venomous scorpion would probably be even easier for the mantis. This mantis is not the strongest- its small head & skinny 'arms' indicate lack of power. A Sphodromantis lineola (Mantis vs Mouse) would take a scorpion twice that size.

  • the smaller the scorpion's claws, the more poisonous its venom is.

  • More venomous- yes. But usually weaker physically

  • me 2

  • me too, the video that is 4 mins?

  • Wow, thats awsome, TASTEY SCORPION!

  • WOO!! GO MANTIS

  • lol! an infant scorpion against a giant asian mantis thats funny

  • You said "Giant Asian Mantis"? The video was actually taken in Africa. And "an infant scorpion"? Maybe, but not necessarily. It could be just a small species. Not all scorpions are gigantic.

  • lol using an emporer scorp in any fight is unfair cuz its the less likely to win due to lack of speed and poison so therefor any kind of fight that u use with an emp scorp is like playin handycap on easy mode

  • If I undrstnd u correctly, ur analysis is completely off!! An Emp Scorp would tear apart almost anythin in its path whch it can PHYSICALLY overpower. Invert venom is effctve against mammals and reptiles but almst irrlevant agnst othr invrts. I've seen my Fat-tail scorp sting crickets & the crckts r still kickn aftr 1/2hour, same wth RedBcks/Widows biting crckts. So many people base their fight analysis on venom potency-that's wrong! To be cont'...

  • ...cont'.. a scorp would beat a trntula by tearin it apart with its pincers, trntula wld beat a scorp by rippn it apart wth its fangs, JapnsHrnet wld beat a mantis by rippn its head off, & of course, chck out the above video again. I guarantee an EmpScorp wld rip apart any smallr highly venomous scorp. I've said this on other discssn boards & I'll say it again; when it comes to invert vs invert, VENOM IS OVERRATED!!!! If anyone wants to prove me wrong, send a video.

  • lol it looks like a giant asian mantis and i didnt nessecarily mean that it was an emporer scorpion

  • i cant belive a females bites off a males head straight after mating and he will still MOVE around without a head 4 a lil while thats nuts!!!

  • "even a scorpion cant escape this basic principle of nature"? i saw a scorpion rip apart a mantis on an amateur video, so i guess it can

  • You completely misunderstood the statement. He was saying even great predators (like scorps) can become prey, 'eating or being eaten'- that's the 'principle of nature'. Actually, it's BECAUSE scorps are such great predators that the statement was made. Just like great predators like crocs getting eaten by pythons or vice versa. Scorp. ripping apart a mantis doesn't mean it can't fall prey to something else- so NO, they 'can't escape this principle of nature'.

  • i still haven't seen a "good" fight between a mantis and a scorpion. one is always much bigger than the other and it's no contest. i wanna see a good size scorpion fight a godd size mantis. that way it'll be fair

  • I'd like to see a 'good' fight myself. There are no mantids that come close to the size of an adult Emp scorp. so that option is out. I would say a 3inch S.lineola ('Mantis vs Mouse' video) vs a RedClaw of equal size would be classic. But please, don't actually do it!

  • no i'm not the one who makes the fights, just watch em. u seen the hornet vs mantis video?

  • Yes, wasps/hornets/ants are among the world's toughest creatures. It seems Japns.Hornets usually win agnst the local Tenodera spp. Those mantids are very timid, unlike S.lineola('Mantis vs Mouse' vid). I've raised both mantid spcs- there's a huge diffrnce! Although smaller than Tenodera, S.lineola is far strongr/more aggrssve..The 'bodybuilders' of mantids..compare their bodies-massive head(indicate massive jaws) & massive 'arms' make them powerful & should be able to take the hornet 1 on 1.

  • try mantis vs human

    thats fair

  • imm a lil pised right now.....i wana c a cammal spider vs a same size mantis vs a same size scorpian thad'id b bonafied baddddaaaaaassssss

  • he doesnt even bother to kill it, he is just eating it alive...

  • retard the scorpion was a baby if it was grown it would own the mantis! stupid!

  • in africas rain forest its good fighting there a 8 inch matis vs an 8 in scorpion it said scorpion usaly wins cuz the scorpion weighs as much as a boiled egg and somtimes it doesnt even try to kill it it lets it pass by

  • yeah, probably even more than a boiled egg. It might take a 10-inch bulky mantis to equal the weight of an Emperor scorpion. I handle mantids all the time- they're weightless!!

  • ya that would be an equal fight

  • actually for the reasons you posted, the mantis has the atvantage as it has more speed and agility than the scorpion. also its front legs are as or more powerful than the scorpions claws.

  • I think the biggest advantage of the mantis is its vision. If a scorpion, tarantula, or centipede is too big to tackle, the mantis would just watch it walk by (like scorpionboy500 mentioned) and most likely it wouldn't see the mantis. But if it's not too big to tackle, the mantis has the advantage of ambush. So in the wild, I think the mantis would probably be safe from these 'blind' predators most of the time because it would see them before they see it.

  • sorry XIPM3- I meant to 'reply' but I 'removed' your last post by mistake. The video you mentioned with the mantis tackling the snake was the one I posted myself recently. Anyway, I wasn't trying to say a mantis can't take something big, I was saying IF the mantis couldn't take it, it has the advantage of being unseen and still be safe. Some mantids such as Sphodromantis and Hierodula can take big stuff- but others like Tenodera (getting killed by Japanese hornets) are wusses.

  • no wonder.......look at the size ......

A.bicolour[black fat tailed scorp] will make it fair fight...

  • Thanks for posting... yeah, I once had both Fat-tail (Parabuthus transvaalicus) and African Mantis (Sphodromantis lineola)- similar in size. I thought that would've been a great fight. Of course I didn't experiment. The mantis was the most aggressive I've seen- same or similar species to "Mantis versus Mouse" video. It was trying to go after the scorpion through the glass.
