"You Don't Say!" was one of two TV game shows during the 1960's---the other being "Password"----where producers had "inspired" casting of celebrity captains.
If my memory serves me correct, "the 1960's You Don't Say!" included these celebrity pairings:
* Adam West and Burt Ward
* William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy
* Lorne Greene and Micheal Landon
* Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale (L.A. Dodgers pitchers)
I think "You Don't Say" owes its inspiration as a cross between "Password" with the celebrity-contestant teams and the word communication and "Concentration" with its sound-alike symbols and illustrations representing each of the syllables in the phrase, title, or name in the mystery rebus.
Where on earth some of you people find some of this footage is a mystery to me. Where you come up with ideas to post this stuff is even more fascinating. I was an infant when this was on. I do have some memory of Tom Kennedy on this show (and have seen him in others). Thank you for the memory.
Way back in 1969 (when I was 16) my family vacationed in California (we flew from Dallas Love Field...my first ride on a jet plane). We stayed at the Howard Johnson motel across the street from Disneyland, and one evening as we walked through the parking lot, I noticed a crowd of people gathered around some pretty young lady signing autographs. It was Tina Cole. Why she was in the Hojo parking lot is a mystery to me, but I remember vividly how gorgeous she was.
I don't een remember this game show....if I was seated next to Tina Cole I would probably lose track of what the game about. There used to be photos of her on the web but I don't know what happened to them.
Well, it lasted six or seven years anyway. Because I remember first watching it about 1964, and I think it lasted until 1969-70.
Not as long as the original "What's My Line?" (17 years) or the current "Price Is right" (37 years), but still more than a one-season flop.
Tom Kennedy, the host on this show, also emceed many other game shows, including taking over for Allen Ludden on "Password Plus," and a syndicated version of "Name That Tune."
Kennedy's brother, Jack Narz, was also a game show veteran, having hosted the infamous "Dotto" (one of the game shows implicated in the quiz show scandals of the 1950s, though Narz was unaware), as well "Video Village," "Seven Keys," and the syndicated "Concentration."
And both Narz brothers were announcers for the earliest sitcoms starring Betty White--Narz on "Life With Elizabeth" and Kennedy on "Date With The Angels."
Coincidentally, both these Betty White comedies were produced by Don Fedderson, who also produced "Family Affair" and "My Three Sons<," the latter co-starring Don Grady (11 of its 12 years) and Tina Cole seen in this clip.
Good heavens -- how many times did they remodel the set on the original run? I count AT LEAST FOUR different versions. And that's just from the postings here on youtube.
Tina Cole was a member of "The King Family" before she played "Katie Douglas" on "My Three Sons." She performed as one of "The King Cousins." I was just 9 years old when this show was on and I remember it only slightly.
This was one of those game shows that actually made you think. For that reason alone, I'm not sure it would fly these days. And I would've given a week's pay and forfeited any prizes to sit next to Tina Cole. Major 60s hottie!!!
I WANT THE EPISODE WITH CAROLYN JONES AND JOHN ASTIN!

"You Don't Say" often had interesting celebrity pairings.
I think once, while the original "Star Trek" was on the air, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were celebrity captains the same week.
