The most common progression is "I V vi IV" C G Am F (or G D Em C which is the same progression in the key of G, easier to play for beginners) also transposing that first two with the last two chords (Am F C G) gives you more popular songs (C Am F G or G7 instead of G gives you a few older songs as well) Another one is D A Bm F# G D G A (Pachelbel's progression) in the key of C that is "C G Am E F C F G" One Tin Soldier and Jolly old St, Nicholas and Graduation are examples with those chords
