Although I'm not the hugest Perlman fan, I will say that he nailed the mood on the head. His interpretation is delicate; leisurely and calm, like a breeze. Sarah Chang is an amazing musician, but I think she played with too much intensity. Remember, this is 'Meditation,' not 'Romance.'

I've been making my funeral arrangements this afternoon (not that I'm thinking of going anytime soon) and trying to think of a piece of music to have playing as I enter church. There won't be a lot there as I don't have a large extended family so hymn singing is out as half a dozen or so trying to sing will sound a bit silly, so I think I'll choose this piece. I remember my mother playing it when I was young and I have liked it from then so I think this is the one. Beautiful rendition of it.

Knowing only a bit about the opera: There's such a sentimentality about the piece. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it! The violin weeps, lays bare its soul! There’s such sad longing in it, yet it becomes tempestuous in the midst. It laments, then becomes angry because it cannot have that for which it laments and finally, it resigns itself again to lamentation. The feeling is so universal that I put no more story to it than that. The piece is truly able to stand on its own!

Hm this song is very beautiful, but Perlman's interpretation of it is a little bit too heavy for my taste.

I think this would perhaps be played better by a violinist with a lighter style.
