Should never have been left to get into that state!.....such a shame.......just like a lot of English heritage/ history.....left to rot.....then the numb skull, brain-dead Muppets move in and either smash it up or set light to it!!.....
Those sash-frames were repairable!! So sad though ..... and this i360 is no replacement ..... for what - a view of slate roofs from a gigantic lamp-post??
It was a beautiful pier and it's still better looking than the tacky Palace Pier ..... as it always will be called by Brightonians.
@pealeigh That would be good old Brighton and Hove Council; back in the mid 1990's, they claimed that they didn't have the money to restore the West Pier, but that didn't stop them sending Councillors on a 4-week long fact finding mission to San Francisco to study Lesbians working in local government. Seriously.
The Proposal Of Re-Inavating West Peir Was Scrapped After The Peir Became Stupidly Unrepairable, Now They Have All This Money Raised To Repair The Peir Is In No Use, The Designers Of The London Eye Are Proposing The Building Of The i360, This Was Designed To Take The Feelings And Sights Of West Peir And Produce Them Into a Vertical Wonder, Search Brighton i360 For More Infomation.
Falmer Stadium [Brighton And Hove Albion's 91mill Stadium - Come On Seagulls!-] Will Be More Formally Known As The Annex Community Recreation Stadium.
with respect, the reason that it looks like a piece of crap is that during the '90's, the council was sending Labour councillors on 2 month-long 'fact finding' missions to New Zealand to research lesbians working in local government, instead of investing money to restore the West Pier. I remember walking on the pier in the 70's, and it was beautiful; far better than Brighton's other pier...
Or the first fire... lol,, I thought it was an actual video of the West Pier like inside it and everything before the fire,, and i click on it to see this... This was after the first fire,, the second is the one that proper messed it up... lol but anyway,, they shant knock it down,, its a part of Brightons history and that !! x
Why don't they just knock it down now? It looks really unappealing as a shell. I suppose it makes a nice story to tell tourists, but surely it's not safe?
I remember going on there way back in the early '70's before it caught fire the first time and loved it. Brighton was nice in those days.

Y2Jislegend 3 years ago
no its not safe but it would be hard to knock it down as its in the sea
EmilyWSims 3 years ago
they won't knock it down because it would cost about the same amount of money to if they restore it.
Anyway it's part of Brighton you would never think of knocking it down
