This is a great base to work from and it shows a good understanding of basic loops and conditional statements. Everyone starts off small and the best way to learn C++ is by practicing with things you find fun. You can follow further tutorials and introduce different animals, damage and hitpoints, chances to miss etc.

I started off making a similar game but I neglected functions and used int main for the entire thing. My best advice would be to utilize functions to your advantage! Good job

@iLikeKnete Well, it's a text-based game program, and basically you are given 3 options, shoot; left, right, or in the center. The objective is to hit the animal, by simply taking a guess at it's location, which again, is either in the left, right, or center.

I would advice you to download Processing(.org language (almost java)). You need not care about memory pointers vectors graphic initialization. You can RIGHT create something. I dunno never liked c++ (though it is very good language but to/for me too messy/complicated - I don't like how it is done with "classes" and OOP) I know that ppl could object that c++ gives you good habits, but if you want right to create processing is great lang (you can use java (jar) libs or even use *.java classes)

With the a game engine, a decent game could possibly be done in a month or 2, dpeending how much time you spend on it per day. Its no crysis or anything, but it could still be fun.

@SuperDeluxe80 its not even close to being as simple as that. if you knew how much game design, gameplay tweaks, textures, animations, sound, programming has to be putten into something even when you already have an engine made. game companies still take about 2-3 years to make a game with an engine that is already made so one person doesnt even have the skills to be able to do all that and even if he did he would have to be an expert on everything needed to make a game with very good quality.

it is as simple as that. almost no one make there own engines anymore, and there so many free DLL's out there it would be stupid to re-invent the wheel. biggest time consumer is the testing.

if you cant use your tools how are you gonna make the game?

most game now are finshed way before they hit the stores to counter sales of other games or put on a date no other games come out.

good work! some tips: lookup 'getch()' command (or pm me) so your players just need to press 1/q and not enter. Also use 'system("cls")' will clear the screen, gr8 when u start over or go from the menu to the game stuff.

So you use a rand function to generate a random number from 1 to 3 with a line like say rand 3% + 1; or what be it, and you declare an integer like x or something and then you prompt the user with some cout message and they reply with cin << x and if x = the previously mentioned random number, then you cout the win message, but if not, you cout the lose message and of course do-loop?
