@ubah Thanks, but I am in 2nd semester of first year animation now and I love it, even if it's crazy hard work and lots of stress. My drawing has incredibly improved since a year ago (which is when I posted that comment).
@SilverStoneX28 I am happy to hear that! Congratulations. I hope your drawing skills continue to improve! I've heard from the students in their second year of the animation program that the second year is easier than the first year.
@ubah Of course second year is "easier" when the students don't complete assignments, put any passion into their work or take pride in what they do. Whoever you talked to has given you bad information. If you want to know what is really going on in each semester, email the faculty or coordinators. They will give you the information you need.
You're not in the demo? I was sure I put you in but must have got lost in shuffling things around. Very sorry Trent. I think you're not the only one I missed too.
that's what the program is for. :) helping you become a better artist and give you better confidence in your work... but you have to have a passion for it otherwise you won't get far. :)
I think the passion for animation is the only thing that's making me go on. I'm a thread away from dropping out because I'm failing anyways....I'd rather have a W than an F....but I want to do this so badly where I'm biting at the bit. I really don't know anymore. -_-
I'm going through something similar too. I'm in my second year of game development and I'm realizing now it isn't for me. A big part of the course is programming and it's not why I took the program. The program used to be split between the art/design and programming. I was going for the art and design obviously but last minute they decided to combine both. It makes sense but I'm not getting enough practice on my art skills. So I'm in the midst of deciding whether to do animation or graphics des
It's nice to know that someone else is in (kinda) the same boat as I am. I wanted to animate characters and study a certain style but that style is very much frowned upon. Still, that's the style that I want to animate....And I hate doing backgrounds and layouts. Though, like I said before, this is all I want to do. I'm still shaking my head in confusion.
I love anime as well but in regular shows there isn't much animation. its usually just mouth movement. There is an occasional anime that has O.K animation but not alot. Anime takes good backgrounds pain it the butt. I'm ok at backgrounds I just hate trees haha
@SilverStoneX28 Wrong attitude. You don't learn to draw a "style". You learn to DRAW. Then you can draw anything, there's nothing wrong with anime. It just has to be a good drawing, with posing, composition, 3d form, depth, perspective, etc. This takes time, keep at it.
I know this was written last year, but I want to let you know if you still want to improve your drawing skills, Pre-Animation and Illustration is a really good program for that. I am currently in Pre-Animation and I love it! There are people who are not good at drawing before Pre-Animation and now their drawings improved a quite lot. It's because they worked hard and visited their teachers' offices for more help. I'm glad that I took it first before applying to Animation.
Don't compare your works with someone else and say " Oh mine isn't as good." or something like that. No one is better than someone else they are just different.
It's hard when they are way above you in grades and overall skill. I just can't seem to tell myself that I'm good enough. Oh well, I survived 1st semester....but still.
Somehow this looks way better than any Sheridan College animation reel I've seen so far...

This makes me a little nervous to get started there (fall 2009)....I feel like I'm no where near as good as these students are.

A positive attitude is also important. Just keep an open mind to to crits. a good artist never stop learning :)

Japanese anime. I don't care how many people hate it, that's what I want to go in to after I graduate. =)
