He gets on a pelican with a marine or two and the chief find them in the powered down pelican shortly after leaving the ring. According to the book, they were suppose to group up with a team that was out to capture a convenent ship, but that group decided to destroy the ship because of a flood outbreak.

I didn't play this game but I can say that is sure was revolutionary, and one of the best stories ever. And great graphics for it's time. My first halo game was Halo 3. I still thinks that is was the best game ever. ODST And Reach aren't very special to me. If H3 has the great fore and armor abilities of Halo Reach, It would still be the best game.
