@trenken Ernest Cline is an American novelist who commended Rush's greatness by writing a book in which a billionaire made a contest to give his money to whoever cleared all the challenges first. One of them was realizing an obscure Rush reference to this song. The book is Ready Player One.
I have a story Rush fans won't like but there is no insult intended. It's a true story. I started noticing this band on the radio around age 14. For months I thought,"Great band!" Then one day a Rush song was playing and I said to my parents, "She's a great singer!" My parents said,"It's a guy singing." I was in shock! I admit that ruined them for me for a couple of years. lol But I got over it eventually.
The Priests Of Syrinx have already made a pre-emtive strike on guitars today @ the Gibson plant.. Scary how this album is coming true right before our eyes...
my favorite 2112 song... besides solioquoy, grand finale, overture, discovery, oracle the dream and presentation... yeah... i just named all the songs off that album, i think
The video was hilarious. When I saw Admiral Ackbar I couldn't stop laughing. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...etc
@wideheadofknowledge I don't see why it should bother you so much. If anything, you telling me off for it proves that you're just as ostentatious as I am.
1:03 Akbar is trying to tell us that the priest are very totaletarion and deny people thier rights as humans and prevent them from individual thought. But the only thing that came out was "ITS A TRAP"
"I was bored" ??? That's the best boredom ever !! Cool video. I was given this album at 15. Haven't been the same since !!! "what a nice contented world" ???
(cont 2) ... this? Perhaps the preists thought with advent of rock music, that it brought about the decine of mankind. So they weren't anti music, just pro spirtual music and anti rock music. The only thing against this is churches and halls of technology is not spiritual or anything to do with a church. Government, perhaps, but it has little to with pan pipes or music. Any other interpretations?
Syrinx is a reed pan pipe created from the chaste nymph, Syrinx, while hiding from Pan's erotic passion. These pipes are one of the most ancient musical intruments. Its odd that the "temple of syrinx" is a technocratic anti-music institution. The video interpreted the temple as a church; is this because the pipe organ is a kind of advanced pan pipe? Syrinx is all about music which is kind of odd. What was the red star in the song - Communism? Zionism? Any other interpretations to build upon
This song is really magnificent. It presents how we can be lead to believe that our enslavement in actually a good thing. I mean this song presents us with the same thoughts of communist and socialist ideologies. They are here to enslave our minds but it's in a way that makes us think what they're doing is just or righteous But this could be applied to all forms of authority or ideologies that are like this.
Not really, phones are just smaller client computers. There are still datacenters everywhere that hold all the data that you read/see/hear/ on your phone. In fact it is seems even more appropriate in regards to the song/book anthem.
Also the referenced priests seem more like politicians today.
me and my friend are huge rush fans, and when they played this at Joe Louis Arena on the snakes and arrows tour we were both singing along: Fa la la la la la la LA! Fa la la la la la la LA!
Hahaha, I laughed from the "Priests". Anyway, a song kinda different from the things we are acostumed to listen from Rush, don't you think? This is more... heavy rock than prog rock. XD' Anyway, the video is really funny, but you could improve in putting more verses in a same frame... it's easier to read. XD'
@coralbay00 the story of the song is that all the planets of the world are ruled by the solar federation and the priests of the temples of syrinx control everything...music, writing, what you can say, etc...there may be a hidden message about collectivism, since it was pretty strong in the 70's
