wtf these dont look impossible they just take practice. they need t put these in thru some DLC. for real tho. like when i first turned on this game i was like "i cant wait to play the levels i saw in the teasers"
@captaincabeman The part with the orange gel is no problem, but some of the levels shown after 1:00 require fast placements of portals mid-air, and I guess that would be very difficult to do with analog sticks.
@newyorkphantom I think I might be able to do it as well as many people. If you're used to high sensitivity, you can spin around fast enough. But that's just how I see it...
@captaincabeman You're probably right. In the developer commentary, one of the developers says that the game testers found the crushing plates too difficult and frustrating. That's probably why they cut these levels.
We could have had these levels on the PC, but because nobody could ever do this with a fucking controller, we now have levels where there is one white wall in a sea of gray, and the puzzle consists of you putting a portal on that one white wall.
But sure, the game wasn't dumbed down for the sake of the consoles or anything.
@1stNiNjA Actually, if you've noticed, there are very few reflex based puzzles in the game like Portal had. It was probably to keep the game as accessible as possible to all audiences.
Ugh, more PC elitism here. I highly doubt the disparity between PC/console has anything to do with this, the difference between the two (in terms of control) does exist, but is waaay overexaggerated. It's more likely that it took playtesters took too long to come up with the correct solutions for those later puzzles, so they were canned.
As far as I can remember, the bouncing gel on the walls was only present on a single level, which seems like kind of a waste of a perfectly good game mechanic.
I see why they took out all the cursher bits and split second portal placing. Portals a puzzle game and less a high action you could die any moment type of experiance. it would get really frustrating getting crushed dozens of time and having to restart the chamber everytime. But I will say. this would make for some awesome DLC.
The reason why these levels were not included was presumably because in the developer commentary they state that crushing panels were intimidating and made portal 2 look too difficult so they kept them till the end in chapter 9 "this is where he kills you"
watch?v=0G9Y8jbSZb0 - go to 0:28 for the commentary node i was talking about :)
I think it was because some of these puzzles looked like the required luck or good aim, portal isn't about either of those. Its about using your brain.
God Damn it, that sucks, so us PC owners get screwed because Consoles are no where near as accurate with their controls compared to mouse and keyboard, if they do this in HL3, then Valve suck, why not just give consoles some sort of "auto-aim" if worse comes to worse.
i think they dumbed a lot of portal 2down, because it was fucking easy. i think they prolly found that those levels were to hard for casual gamers.... v_v
@FoxyMark But only 3 of the levels in that promo are not in the game and the levels that are missing have counterparts or parts of them in other levels in the game. Also please use proper English next time, it makes you look dumber than a "casual gamer"...
@FoxyMark Well the way you wrote that mad you sound like a 12 year old. But it's true, most of the puzzles in this video have a variant in the retail game if not the whole puzzle.
i found that alot of the levels in portal 2 felt to easy, some were brain trickers but there were none that i felt made me have to fully use my "twitch" skills.
they could have at least been put in as bonus levels like in the originals challenge mode... which seems to be missing from no2 anyway.
They have been cut from the game as the spike plates didn't receive good results from playtesting. Players did experiment less, which was counterproductive. So the spike plates only showed up very late in the game. From what I've heard in the directors commentary at least.
@JeebuzCrist they could have at least kept the first puzzle in the video. i can sort of understand the second part, but the first part is just about timing. you dont need to shoot while flying through the air or anything
@JeebuzCrist not false advertising, a lot of trailers are from early in development and what you see in them won't be in the final game checkout unseen64 (google) for more examples of cut content
@bencarter123 so is 1:01

I can guarantee that if these were in the original version, people would still bitch about it. Ah gamers today, so spoiled.

McMaster 10 months ago 2
@runsa Not really, I could do this on my PS3. Also this is clearly pre-rendered, look at the way the gun moves etc. etc.
Natendo64 10 months ago
@runsa Thats exactly why, but more precisely because of the console controllers limitations vs the mouse and keyboard.
