Go ahead, ask the average Christian if they believe that day and night were created before the sun or that the earth is only 6000 years old or that talking snakes exist and they'll tell you no. The Bible, along with the Quran, Torah, and any other religious scripture, is an impediment to progress.

@playthefield21 Not really. Its the people who interpret the books and call them as a call for a war of hate that are an impediment to progress. There are others however who take the books as a call to for an end to hate. I know quite a few Muslims who, after reading the Qu'ran, interpreted as a call to love despite some of the verses that call for Jihad. These books are based and are very open to interpretation. You might just've interpreted them a different way then me.

@playthefield21 its true that some verses sound barbaric. But you have to take into account the time and the place the book was written in. You cannot just compare it to modern standards. They are very different from the ethics of the time. Sharia is a great example of this. Yes, by today's standards, it seems barbaric, but during 636 AD in Arabia, Sharia was actually the most reasonable if not standard system of law compared to what the other ones were.

@Killzoneguy117 The problem with the Quran is that it can't be changed, or rather believers think it shouldn't be because then it won't be "God's law" anymore. If you did, there would be no point in following it as a religious scripture anymore because it would now be filled with the words of men instead of god.

As for shariah law, it's rules have been set down clearly by the hadeeth. You can't change that either unless you want to deviate from Islam as it was taught by your prophet.

@playthefield21 I wasn't explaining Sharia. I was merely using it as an example. I was saying that if you were to compare all religious scriptures by today's standards, they would seem barbaric. Also, my point wasn't as much as changing the words in the Koran as it was changing the interpretation that comes from it. Problem is, most of the Mullahs are Right-Wing and very conservative. There are not enough Left-Wing, Liberal Muslims in the world such as myself and my family.

@Killzoneguy117 When it comes to religion though, conservatism is the "right" way, it's the only way that conforms to religious scripture. Sure you can come up with new interpretations, but the whole point of the hadeeth is to show you what the right and intended interpretations were.

If you think you know better than your own prophet and sahaba then by all means go ahead and invent new interpretations. Hell, as an Atheist I'd support you, it brings religion one step closer to going away.

@playthefield21 Well I'm not trying to prove that I'm better than my Prophet. The Prophet's job was simply to go to God, get the words from God, give it to the people and let the people figure it out. I'm not saying that we take a black highlighter and cross out everything the 'Quran and Bible that we do not like, but certain things, we should look at from a different point of view and from a different angle. I mean Protestants interpret the Bible from a different point of view than Catholics.

That actually isn't what your prophet's job was. If you read your Quran and ask your own scholars, his job was not only to reveal the words of God but to show you how to interpret and follow them. Otherwise the Quran would have simply been revealed all at once, and there would have been no need for a prophet.

The KKK are a group founded on and inspired by racism, they're completely opposite. Whereas the Black Panther Party was admirable, the KKK are abhorrent.
