  • What a wise rat. He knows not to eat his kids. The mom is probably freaked out by the camera or by that other rat at the top.

  • its not really a good idea to keep a un-neutered male in with a female mother because she can get pregnant and conceive right after birth. It will be alot of stree on her and her body.

  • don't you know that a rat can conseive again right after her babys are born?

  • Nahhh...I taught 'em about safe sex and gave them condoms.

  • HE ATE THE BABY RAT!!

  • sorry but im going to ave to agree with

    LimeyKat

poorly cared for but cute critters

  • The rats were products from the vet-tech class at a community college. The males were supposed to have had vasectomies. The female was from the anatomy lab and was pregnant when we got her, and we weren't informed that she could have been. We got them on the spur of the moment, and had to use supplies that had been stored since 2001 in a garage. I'm sure a better rat and animal lover would have let them starve to death over the Christmas break rather than let them live for a week in "discomfort"

  • Regardless of spur of the moment scenario (which I doubt, but is possible) You don't have an excuse for a disgustingly filthy cage, especially not with babies. Even if you were completely broke, shredding old used news/sales papers and a bit of dish soap to clean the pan is just fine. That's what a better rat and animal lover would do.

Your line about starving is a steaming pile of b.s. to try to make yourself feel better about getting called out for it.

  • Actually it's not. It was winter when this was filmed and the roads were icy. Of course I don't expect someone like yourself to actually have a life, or any life experience (college, refusing to drive on icy roads) but that's beside the point. Newspaper ink here contains LEAD. Which is DEADLY when eaten and rats eat and chew on their bedding. There would have been no one to tend to the animals from the 1st week of December through the 2end week of Jan. That's why they were given away.

  • Uhm.. no idea where you've been lately, but newspaper ink has been FDA approved for a couple years now at least.

  • Really? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm honestly asking. A vet I went to told me not to let our puppy play in her training newspapers because of the high lead concentration in local papers. He's a pretty good vet. I figured if it's bad for a 45lb dog, it can be deadly for a 2 lb rat.

  • Yes really. People use newspapers to cook with and wrap food in. That's why it was done. Even professionals can be outdated from time to time.

  • PS: Wasn't trying to fight, but that has been in the comments since January, when I posted this. All but one of the babies died and the mother died in July of natural causes. Her grandchildren are all still alive. I guess I'm doing something right in the raising of rats. =)

  • I know it's old, but I'm subtracting points for filthy, pine using, undersized, mixed (intact)multi-gender having, and over populated cage.

It's like someone read a book on how to be a great rat owner, and intentionally ignored every point made.

  • agreed

  • Achei os animais bonitinhos mas colocar a linda música "Decollage" nesse video foi de muito mau gosto. Péssima idéia.

  • is that a he or she? and why did she move them?

  • because they are HER babies

  • ... are they trying to suckle on the dad?.......... well that makes more sense now.

  • hmm... good question...i've never seen the father in the cage after the momma has the babies...maybe hes babysitting :)

  • kkkkkkkkk

  • I like how she scoops them under her belly, very cute
