Nice thorough review. I was hoping you'd talk me out of spending my money, but instead you've inspired me to get this camera! FYI: I bought a dual outlet surge protecter at Coast Hardware that also has two USB ports for charging when you don't have a computer (or have run out of ports). It comes with a little removable shelf to hold whatever you are charging.

You probably need to convert the video to WMV... Atleast that's what I always have to do when I want to edit a camera video.

The problem is when I´m filming a video and I´m filming a certainly object or even a person the camera not get focus it, everything that is shooting by the camera stayed blurred when you are more than 2 meters to the target shooting whit 1x zoom, this is, without zoom! The movie will only be focused when it zooms too close a specific person or object (with 3x - 5x optical zoom)!

Can you help me?... When you make a video, don´t you have this type of problem?? If you don´t mind, answer please!

I have to say Zi8 is one hell of a video camera CONSIDERING the price. when it comes to these sorts of things ,I think everything should be considered, price, size etc etc..

r u serios optical zoom means that the lens actualy moves. digital zoom is just croping the image. the 5x means it magnifies it 5x (5 times bigger)

it has auto focus. the way to do it is to press the picture bottom to take a photo but not all the way in. (if you press it slowly u can hear two clicks) when u click the first one and keep it pressed the bloggie will focus for the best quality and then makes a BEEP sound. then press it all the way through.

My experiences and my advice with this camcorder is don't buy it!

In 1080 mode the recorded image is like a jelly with very slight movement on the part if the user (even a heart beat is to much for this camcorder to cope with).

It also shakes in other modes as well!

It has no light or flash so it is useless as a still camera also.

The LCD is low quality grainy and difficult to see in moderate lighting.

There is no manual settings for White Balance and Focus.

i have this camera and dont agree with you:

the 1080p is perfect and if you have a steady hand or a tripod its gonna come out crisp and clear, maybe u have shakey hands.and this is a CAMCORDER not a CAMERA so dont expect a flash, u dont see the flip or the vado or the kodak have flash do you,NO.

the lcd is a bit low quilty but not that bad (i found it preety good)

@bebbuxu3 Maybe my camera was faulty or something. I swapped it for a Sanyo HD VPC2000 a lot more money but the difference is outstanding. The Sanyo has only got digital image stabilisation but I have no problems with it like I did with the sony that supposed to have a better optical one. I liked the look of the Sony but I suppose I was looking for something a lot better than the camera could offer. If you are happy with its quality who am I to say. I am pleased you are getting good results.

@bebbuxu3 got it from cliftoncameras.co.uk it is a lot more money but I think worth every penny there are other makes and i wouldnt want to advertise the Sanyo Xacti VPC CG100 looks good but i cannot say anything about it as I havn't tried it. One point in favour of the vpc model is it plays directly on a HD TV through its base don't know if the sony or other model do this but its a nice function.

There seems to be a hd2000A model that is a lot more money with something called iframe.

Now, you say that: "If you're walking around it is going to look like you're holding a small camera.". I'm interested in knowing how bad it is. you can -forget- about walking and filming .. try it with any camera you have (even a digital camera) the footage is not viewable .. the HD just makes things worse as it records the shaking in high definition too : )) .. so, based on my experience with a couple of HD small/pocket camcorders, you cannot walk and film, even if the camera has an optical IS system.
