@Seema552 Actually a lot of chows can grow in many sizes. Some get very big but some are small or medium. I have a chow chow who is medium and not big. He behaves perfectly and is perfect size that he is indoor dog. The man who showed us him said he was not going to grow any bigger :) So there is chows who are the perfect size :)
@MarcyBieber654 Oh thats really cool!! So how do you find out where to buy chow chow's that will be small, medium or big?? Oh and, does the price change for the size of the dog?
@Seema552 I got my dog at the shelter but you can look online for the specific size of the chow :) And it depends on the chow if it gets more expensive but the size does not depend on the price :)
Well, I've had six Chow-Chows, all of them from puppies, and not a single one has been aggressive. They are very loyal, fiercely protective, aloof, proud, loving dogs and once you've had a Chow you will never go for any other breed. And their noses don't disqualify them from KC Shows, my little boy has a Cream father who has been shown many times and he has many Cream Champions in his pedigree. As for them being unintelligent, the moron who posted that got just about everything wrong.
Hi My Chow Chow is 3mnths old and shes on aggresive to people with no hair haha she growls at my dad because hes bald i think.. but she wont go near him at all she growls and barks at him she lets everyoneelse touch her though (: chow chows are one of te bst dogs ever very unique from other dogs (:
I was thinking about getting one of them, they are so cutee! Can you tell me how do they behave, are they really agressive? Or are they hyperactive? :P How much care do they need, and what exactly. Sorry, if it's too much but it's important to know do they fit my possibilities. (; Yours is very cutee!
@MajaK96 One thing to consider is that chow chows are naturally aggressive and are very loyal to the owner. But they could be trained to become friendlier to visitors as well, takes time though.I remember my chow chow being hyperactive when it was young, it runs alot(and fast) , looks odd considering how fat looking they are..They also are playful when they are young, especially around other dogs :/
She is so fluffy! Just wonder but do they have 1 coat of fur or 2? I'm not sure if i used the right term for it but i pretty much mean, do they shed a lot?
They are not agressive at all, I've got one since 2001, ( his name is Strike) and he's very sweet and very funny! ( Sorry, if i made some mistakes, I'm not english ).. Serously they are the best dogs ever!
Ohhhhh they are a joy! Not agressive in the slightest. Mak is loving, gentle and very very sweet. He wouldnt harm a fly, they are like little tame bears and nothing like ''normal'' dogs at all. I heard they were agressive before i got him but i was assured by the breeder that as long as you buy from a reputable breeder then you wont have any problems. I advise everyone to have one, they are so cute and so much fun... i would highly recommend getting one as a pet ;) x
I am sorry to have to tell you but you are mistaken. No, everyone should not own one. ALWAYS buy a dog from a reputable breeder. However it is characteristic of the breed to be aloof, discerning, territorial, and dignified.
What you are dealing with in the video is a puppy. A dog is not fully mature until it is 3 years old.
@carmeneatsbawls: Hundreds of years ago (or maybe even thousand), Chows WERE aggressive. Chows originated from the northern China/Mongolia region and were used as sheepdogs to guard the herd. However, Chows, for a certain period, were considered as food given they had a fair bit of meat. So, over the years, Chows began to lose a large part of their instincts and gradually became pretty tame and dopey (it's now ranked as one of the least intelligent dog breeds). Chows are cute and adorable~!
The breed is 2000/3000 years old, they were never used as food and they were never used as sheepdogs.
@carmeneatsbawls they can be aggressive and are very protective loyal dogs, however if you socialize them well and train them as early they are amazing companions. In my opinion they are some the best dogs out there. They are loving loyal dogs and can make a great addition to any family.
Actually... melkeeling gave you false info. I have a Chow and these dogs are not for 1st time dog owners. They need training from tiny pups, socialization with other dogs and kids and other pets from pups. If not, they will become aggresive towards other dogs and kids. They need to be trained properly. They will pick one person as their favorite if coming into a family so try and make him/her understand that all humas in the house are the top dog. or they will not obey
@hxcmexi TOTALLY disagree, ive never owned, nor grew up with a dog IN MY LIFE!! Makika is my first ever pet. Makika could give paw and sit and heal at 10 weeks old through MY dedication to him and MY training - He never went to puppy class. I took 1 month off work over the Christmas period and took him every single place I went and made sure he mixed with many people and other dogs. He treats every person as a friend, and although he favours me... he is happy spending time with my friends.....
@hxcmexi What you say may have an element of truth... But as a 1st time dog owner should do when they set their heart on a breed they want and love.. I researched the breed for many months and sought advise from the Chow Chow association and owners and breeders so I knew exactly what I needed to do to make my dog well behaved and happy. My dog is one of THE most laid back, friendly obedient dogs that I have ever met... and as a ''1st time dog owner'' I am very proud of how he has turned out!!
what you say is true and i can tell you're a very responsible owner. I said it because many dont even bother doing the research like you did and just go ahead and get a Chow Chow without knowing anything.
and you also gave false info because you didnt mention anything of researching what you were getting into. You just gave a false info that if you get a Chow it will be friendly no matter what and without training etc. That's why i said you gave false info. Because you did. didnt state how much research you did to have your dog be a gentle king dog
@hxcmexi As stated- people that do not research the animal they are taking responsibility for before they buy them should not be allowed animals. Most people who can afford a Chow Chow (in the UK more so as they are very expensive) would definitely have the intelligence to at some point to get advise on the nature of their personalities... and their training needs.
@hxcmexi Which also must say a lot for my intelligence. So please do not insult me by saying I gave false information. My dog is exactly as I say in my comment back to Carmen, because he is happy, and he is happy because he has a responsible owner who researched the breed and gave him the specific training, care and attention required by a responsible Chow/Dog owner... You shouldnt have a dog if you dont understand its character, breed and training requirements.... End.
Hi, no i dont show him- everybody asks me that, he is very pretty, i just like him as a pet and dont really have any interest in showing- although everybody tells me i should! Thanks for your comment x

Yeah, they're going to take more dedication and firm training than a golden retriever, but they're great dogs.
