i have a 8 year old son with down syndrome i had him when i was 18 and i must say he is the best thing that ever happened to me. i watch some videos on here and people are just so mean about our children i dont ever want my son to have to hear some of the things they say parents should teach their kids that you dont pick on thoes that may have a disability and explain to them about disabilitys.
Yay! We need more of these positive stories! We need to change the negative judgment of people with DS which is so opposite of the truth! We NEED people with DS in our lives so we can learn to better understand the true meaning of unconditional love. Blessings to you!
We so need more people to speak up for ds rights. People need to stop being so judgemental. I have a 3 year old son with ds and has speech delays any suggestions?
It's shocking that people terminate Down's syndrome babies. I have a 4 yo son with DS, he has as much right to live as any other person, and he is just as happy if not happier than 'normal' people. I believe it's a form of genetic evolution, it's not an illness at all. DS is literally a different species of human being, and in many ways a better one than us: it may even be a nature's mutation process attempting to create a more peaceful, less murderous type of human being.
That's spot on. My brother is Downs, and quite honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. The common reaction I get when I tell someone that my brother has Downs is "Aww, I'm sorry".. Hell don't be.. He's 10x the person I am, and has taught myself as well as countless others around us the true meaning of life. Downs TRULY IS a blessing. If you do not believe me, please, I urge you to get to know someone with DS. I promise you, it will change you, and you will not ever regret it.
My son was born with Downs over 30 years ago...there was NOTHING in the way of education of support then. I understand now he is my blessing! I published his life story in the book...It's ok Eli Feb 2008 With hopes of helping other parents understand. His life video on UTUBE Carol3hawks
So true. The docs were going on out-of date info when my 10 y/o was dxed. I knew better, because I had worked in Special Ed in the previous decade. I could see huge differences in the kids who had early intervention, and basically had risen to higher expectations.
I get that they are cautious in prognosis, but i found it misleadingly dismal. He does all the things we were told "He might never".
Great video. Short and sweet. Keeping patients informed is always in their best interests. I am pro-choice, but I hate to see people making decisions out of despair when they can choose life and hope with a down syndrome baby.
Wonderful video, and so true. My cousin is 4 and a half and has Down Syndrome. I couldn't imagine life without him! I think that people are not informed enough about the joy that people with Down Syndrome bring. As the video said, too many people are misinformed with negative, out-dated information. Great video, and keep advocating!
This is a perfect illustration of why we don't want prenatal testing of Autism.

Wonderful! I was unaware of the 90% abortion rate of pre-diagnosis. Thank you.
