I need some advice,my appy mare is overweight and she is 13 and rideable, I dont like to canter and trot ( when im on her)so I want to lunge her. I dont think she has been lunged recently. so how do i make her go in circles. I have a lunge line, a lunge whip, I will probably swing the wip and she will run in a strait line. ( shes not verry good with voice commands)PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ILL POST A VIDEO soon
try running it on the ground beside her and keep at her shoulder. Maybe try free lunging? I am training a pony that had the same problem you just have to be really basic and take it slow. if you get too far ahead or behind it discourages them as does swinging the whip in the air you have to heep the whip at their flank.
thanx but now, my horse is all better, she did alot better than i thought she would. my farrier came and told me some neat tricks on how to get her to turn around and things like that, now my horse is verry good. i just have alot of trouble getting her to canter,she will pick up the canter but loose it and go to a really fast trot!
I'm more concerned at the way that lunge line was being held, not the way i was taught to hold it. Large loops, no small loops and laid over your hand.

Try Getting side reins and keeping the inside one slightly tighter but not too tight or your horse will go behind the bit x
