USA 193 was already deorbiting, which posed a risk to major population centers here on Earth. When USA 193 was destroyed, it was at an altitude low enough to guarantee reentry of debris.
@Uejji hydrazine would burn up for sure on very high altitude so I don't belive it could post any risk, explosion probably accelerated some debris into higher orbit

The concern was that enough of the satellite would survive reentry that the hydrazine would survive the trip and be released into a population center or, worse, higher up into the atmosphere.

low earth orbit at minimum is 160km, and the ceiling on f-15's is like 60-70kft (22-23km or so).

As if its going to survive re-entry without a heat shield. If that were the case the space shuttle wouldn't blow up on re-entry. ANd it HAS a heat shield.

@dajsinjo The concern wasn't that hydrazine would burn up on reentry (of course it would, that's why it was no longer a concern after the satellite was destroyed... all debris would be safely destroyed upon reentry). The concern was that enough of the satellite would survive reentry that the hydrazine would survive the trip and be released into a population center or, worse, higher up into the atmosphere.

I would like to add that for anyone to even Think of not thinking about the problems that could be created by space debrie and radiation, its a sin. We have depleted our ozone to the point its almost ireversable. Older satellites carried atomic clocks and propulsion useing plutonium and that fact is not arguable . Not all satellites use plutonium as a heating source, mostly only probes. Plutonium does not explode when it hits the ground. 1 lbs of plutonium dust is NOT enough to kill everything on earth. It is allot of lethal doses, but you can't spread that small amount to a very wide area.

Fighting insurgencies demonstrates willingness to risk, sacrifice lives. Which the US currently is not obligated to do.
Insurgents hide within civilians, making large firepower unusable in most situations.
So looking at this kind of war, in no way reflects the strength of an army.
Look how quickly Iraq was defeated, within under 2 months.

US marines patrol along roads, search buildings, where as the insurgents hide within houses full of civilians such as homes, mosques, schools, markets, and many similar areas, it is situations like this, that causes such high collateral damage.
