that would not hard to do with a aftermarket TB. I find nothing wrong with the DBW however, lag is a big myth as it only happens if you have the auto/ vcs / tsc crap working in the original vehicle.
The only real issue I can think of is compatibility with most after market ECUs but then again, most after market ECUs are not compatible with dual VVTi too so it's best to improvise if going that route
Don't know why you'd need much more power than what a big NA V6 gives with this, a fairly lightweight FWD car, what with all the traction issues and such. I'd much prefer smooth power delivery, a flat torque curve and razor-sharp throttle response over raw power.
Kesdtv I'm picking up a 94 celica Tom for $300. The body is fine minimal rust for the year but the tranny is gone and the motor is ok witch v6 swap would you recomend?
if i had the knowledge i would attempt a 2grfse it is the direct injection verson worth 315 hp... and i woul want a manual tranny if i did a swap that is also what i have now
It would be nice, however the 2GRFSE has a different bell housing which the E153 does not bolt up to, that and has a awkward motor mount layout (because it's only comes in RWD).
It would be more feasible to swap head/guts into a 2GRFE block and adapting all the wiring. Just wait a couple year, DI will work it way down the food chain.
If you convert to manual, i strongly recommend you go for a E153 transmission, the S54 has too short gear for such motor. It will bolt up to both transmission. With the S54, you will need a 5SFE clutch disk and 3SGTE pressure plate.
I made the custom mount myself. It's very easy if you have a welder
The engine is bone stock except for the intake and 2.5" exhaust. Stock intake and exhaust just didn't fit. I also put a aeromotive fuel pressure regulator because it was too much of a pain to adapt the returnless fuel system.
man that is kickass but did you ever solved that bug on tricking the ECU that the original AT is still there? I dunno if it was you who mentioned it on 6gc or sumthing =D
contrary to KESDtv and mrhiguy, the rav4 can be equipped with a v6 [vz or mz series] you just have to slightly shave the block of the motor because it will foul on the transfer case (not the transmission).
the swap is easier in 2wd, due to the lack of clearance issues...but how fun is that?
the manual transmissions are largely the same as the gt-four celica transmissions. 50/50 torque distribution.
haha no. it had 147,389 miles on it when i got it the front bumper was a little dented but had that replaced and i bought it from someone my mom knows so i got it for dirt cheap.
OH MY GOD!!! Love that video. Makes me wanna go for a 3MZFE motor than the 3SGTE motor on my "99" Celica GT. Could you tell me how much you spent on everything for labor and engine parts for it? Planning on doing the same set up as you soon.
The swap is 95% bolt on with the correct mix of OEM parts. The only custom parts I needed to make was a passenger side motor mount. The rest is wiring, minor bits and peices.
A shop could do it however, they would need to have a specific list of what parts to use and what not to use and some documentation.
Ok i have a 92 Celica Gt...do you think it would be the same setup as your 94 for this swap? if so could you email a list of miss. parts that i would need and any custom parts like the motor mount? would be greatly appreciated:)
Of course it is - it means good torque compared to not being able to slip. It's harder with an auto 'cause of hydraulic loss, so it's even more impressive being that it's an automatic.
it's REALLY weird to see the same engine in my mom's van in the same car as i have lol...

do you think a 3mzfe can be swapped into a 5th gen celica?
tonythesom 1 year ago
@tonythesom
absolutely, the swap would be the same except for a couple different parts (alltrac parts instead of gt-four parts)

Thanks so much man, I really appreciate it.

What transmission did you use? Im planning a V6 swap on my 1994 Celica st but still want a manual tranny. The help would be appreciated.

I used the E-153 (02 Solara V6 MT)

I wouldn't drive with high boost all the time... Do you know if anyone has changed the DBW (drive by wire) to a normal throttle linkage

Do you think the 2grfe can handle boost? Because after I install a motor i know I'll want more power like any other gear head
chevytoyotaman 2 years ago
it can definitely handle boost, how much boost is the answer I would like to know.

Kesdtv I'm picking up a 94 celica Tom for $300. The body is fine minimal rust for the year but the tranny is gone and the motor is ok witch v6 swap would you recomend?
chevytoyotaman 2 years ago
depends on your goals
if you plan to turbo, 3vzfe or 5vzfe
if you plan to stay NA 1mzfe or 3mzfe
1mzfe would be a little easier to install but less power
if you are daring enough, try the hardest, not yet done 2grfe swap, it'll be worth it (276wHP)

can i install that engine i my 1995 celica with an automatic transmission. And do you have to use different mounts.
gtdodgeviper 2 years ago
in theory it should bolt to the transmission BUT the torque converter probably doesn't bolt up to the solara flywheel
one motor mount is custom made and the 3 other ones are on the transmission
KESDtv 2 years ago
And what if I convert my car to manual. Will the engine bolt perfect to the celica manual transmission.
And from where did you got the costume engine mount.

sickk-ass swap!! soo much torque!
7866744 2 years ago
That is awesome.
Would you recommend it over a 3sgte swap?
I am thinking it puts out more stock power, would be more reliable, and has VVTI.
Also, any sites for info?
Thank You

3MZFE vs. 3SGTE
it all depends what your looking for.
If you want a lot of power, torque and still manage 30mpg easily, reliability and simplicity. 3MZFE
If you are aiming for 300HP+ and like FI setups, 3SGTE
KESDtv 2 years ago
would you happen to know the difference between 1Mzfe and 3mzfe?
24okay 2 years ago
look it up on wikipedia, it's a very good explanation
KESDtv 2 years ago
good idea, thanks
24okay 2 years ago
how much did it cost you to do all that ? like ALL of it, labor engine tubes whatever, HOW much ?
godora102192 3 years ago
I don't know exactly how much.
engine $750, tranny $500, misc parts $1xxx
labor = $00000.00 + blood + sweat
It all depends how lucky you are with finding parts and how much effort you're willing to put into it.
KESDtv 3 years ago
yeah by doing it yourself and with the help of friends you can cut the cost in half

Can a V6 be installed in a 1997 Toyota RAV4?
almc2242 3 years ago
2WD yes, 4WD no
the transfer case for the 4WD doesn't clear the block of the V6. There could be other obstacles but there's only one way to find out. Be the first :)
I own a 99 rav4 4wd too
KESDtv 3 years ago
You can. You just to do a bit of modifications to the transmission housing.
