WMBR at MIT had a contest back in the 80s to do remakes of Sex Bomb. This was on a show called Late Risers Club, which can be audited to this day on the net. Many hilarious versions were produced, including a rap style effort with the lines:
Got to see Flipper at the Fab Mab (Mabuhay Gardens) in San Francisco in the early '80s. They almost seemed embarrassed that Sex Bomb was a hit record.
@MsLowery22 - always called this the "Car Crash" version due to sound effect late in the tune. First version I ever heard. Yes, an appropriate bikini contest could work well for this too. This is good however, apocolyptic - like the song...
Well........ New wave and grunge aren't the same categorie....... New wave is from late 70s, and grunge late 80s..... it's about a 10 years difference. Sonic Youth started in early 80s (they released their first album in 1982, just like "Generic", Flipper's album (1982)), Nirvana started in late 80s. Flipper is kind of underground punk music. Just to let you know.......
Thanks for your informations. I know, excactly you are writh with your definition. New Wave and Grunge are not really the same, but bevor the name "GRUNGE" came popular, they where speaking from New Wave (Cobain told in a interview the he dosen't like the name Grunge, he prevered to speak about his new wave punk music).
I didn't really want to provide definitions, I rather wanted to locate the categories and bands in their right period. IMO, Nirvana's music is closer to punk than to old new wave (like Devo, Violent Femmes, Mission of Burma, etc.), as an example it contains less humour and more patho. Yeah, the term "grunge" may be irrelevant or seems unnecassary since its music and its aesthetics are closely related to old punk (with some metal and pop aesthetics). Cheers,
im 17 and i started listening to flipper a few months ago, i sort of liked them when started listening to them, but this song just made me a definite fan

Without music like this, the whole New Wave "GRUNGE" Revolution would be inpossible!!!
But the "Product" which came out in the very early 1990isd was GENIAL; NIRVANA; ALICE IN CHAINS; SONIC YOUTH and many more

I can hear a Pixies influence. Which makes sense because everyone else is saying 'Nirvana' and Nirvana were influenced by the Pixies.
missycaitlin 2 years ago
Hm, but Flipper was around long before either the Pixies or Nirvana formed. Flipper was a influence on them not the other way around.
